Autopilot Week 1:
Will be doing weekly logs of autopilot in Singapore. Join my in my journey in discovering AP's capabilities and limitations.
**Update:
AP & FSD is different. Exercise caution if you're using any driver assist, especially in heavy traffic.
I don't have proper equipment to these shoots. Also I'm new to uploading content. Do bear with me as these shoots get better over time. If you have experience or would like to help drop me a tweet :)

Thanks for the insights and I believe the first AP drive here in Singapore. Perhaps the roads in US are wider compared to what we have here. Hopefully, the engineers can programme AP to work ever better here. Hope you got the GoPro sorted for better viewing angle. Keep up the great work! 🙌🏽
thanks M! check out the new vid, angle's much better, I did knock it out of alignment half way through the drive
2:27 Since AP is designed for lane keeping, not sure if it can be used for crossing intersections with traffic lights like FSD.
Great vid bro keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Well done Astronaut, Elon Musk of Tesla needs feedback from this part of world users. Tesla keep on improving ap constantly, especially now testing out beta ap for latest model Y. Keep up good work.
I've been wokring on the FSD version (non-beta) past few days. Will post a long form soon. Thanks for all your support!
Nice! When the border open, hope to see your video in Malaysia!
let's go for teh
How is it now ? Any rentals in Singapore ?
So cool! After seeing a Tesla in Europe, would love to experience one in Singapore one day
happy to give a joy ride :)
AP for Tesla doesnt change lanes, unless you bought the Full self driving package. Did you buy that S$11,500 option?
You're right. This is just AP. I will do another for FSD.
Love the vids man! Where do I sign up for that Tesla drive you mentioned at the end 😭 it's been a dream of mine to ride in a Tesla for years
Joy ride ok?
@@Darcyds for sure man! my tele's @kenif
Thanks so much for this video, I’m considering to get a Tesla but there’s so little info online!
If you have questions write them up and maybe I can do a live session or just do a ama
Darcy have you tried testing AP specifically in the tunnels? I had an issue once when I am on the right most lane in the tunnel and the car just slam the brakes on. I stop driving on ap on right most lane. I also noticed that the speed limits is not correct in some tunnels.
Not suggesting you do it fyi. Don't want you to suddenly brake on lane 1 and get rear ended.
works fine for me. Which tunnels you at? Sometimes, shadows cast / large objects tend to affect AP a little. So be safe, LTA should allow the latest version of AP and FSD to come here. They are inherently better and safer as newer versions have had more training data.
Thanks for showing how Tesla AP works in SG. Just one observation about US vs SG - I noticed that US states have larger lanes compared to SG especially in their highways, about 10-20% larger. Which is possibly why AP tends to freak out more in SG - perhaps because it was designed in Cali, with bigger lanes and more safety margin over there? Even their parking lots are bigger, which I think is why US drivers prefer to park head-first vs tail-first in SG. Just my 2 cents :)
Hey Issac, yes. You are right about lane sizes, general clearance around the vehicle e.t.c. Something I"d love to feedback to Tesla to. This is an area that sometimes makes me curse and swear in the car when the warning chimes go jingle bells. It's not a warning if it keeps beeping all the time haha!!
@@Darcyds thanks for giving feedback to tesla, it'll help sg drivers a lot! Haha I feel you man, I really don't like chimes - even the blinker sound turns me off 😅 I haven't had the privilege to experience the jingle bells yet but I'm def working towards having my own Tesla. Keep up the awesome videos!
hi, I am curious, does the car use more electricity when you drive with AP engaged compared to when you drive the car with it disengaged?
If you drive with a heavy foot then ap definitely more efficient. AP constant and predictable. ;)
How would your rate the smoothness of Tesla drive? I know that some EVs has very harsh "engine brakes" when you release the accelerator. Does Tesla have that? How are the suspension? Are the bumpy or smooth riding? Are there alot of road noise when driving?
Harsh engine brakes: true and not true. You can't compare apples to oranges. My best advice is to try an EV. It's only harsh because operator has not gotten used to the way regen works. Aka controlling your accelerator pedal. Suspension is firm on the M3. Road noise, subjective. Vehicle is quiet. Sound insulation is decent. But you do hear more tyre noise due to lack of engine noises.
great to see Tesla AP in Singapore traffic.
Cool video, tbh if everyone uses auto pilot, there is simply almost to no chance it will do sudden brake, reason why it has sudden brake here is because of other human-driven vehicles. So conclusion: Make it regulatory to have all vehicle on auto pilot
If traffic light are to digital update to system live then It should stop base on live traffic
Great Video . I give it a "like". Do keep it up Stay connected Like #QQ
Very helpful in understanding this system. Interesting and unique Sir. Is this not different than USA version AP regarding stoplights? (fan and long term investor)
The version of AP deployed in SG is possibly different from the one in the US. i imagine there'd be left-hand and right-hand drive versions.
Thanks for this insight in Singapore. If you ever look to collab let me know, would love to sit and film with you
Happy to ;)
Guess one must brake/disengage at a traffic light yea? Since it does not detect traffic lights
yes. Autopilot does not stop for traffic lights. Your vehicles see the lights but FSD on city streets ain't enabled.
autopilot until tesla power into 10%?
video would be 10X better if you have a PIP view of your steering wheel. I was looking at the steering wheel the whole time to see if it was you or the AP that is taking control of the car.
I've done up a new angle, have been hearing your feedbacks. Thanks
As a huge fan of Tesla and musk I am really excited to see your videos with the AP is there any way to contact you to get inside a Tesla it has been my goal for sometime to get a ride in a Tesla for many years !!!
Tweet me
yooo btw ikea is nearmmy house take 10-15 mins to go haha
Ahahahah! 🐔 wings!
@@Darcyds LOL btw i meant walking lol and this was super funni
Do road trip video round-trip around 500km
Doing one this weekend :) Will try to go all out. 3~4 hour drive.
Great video! seems like using AP in Singapore is not ideal especially with it jamming brakes all the time, when not necessary, is prone to causing vehicles behind to hit you. Just to check, Summon works in Singapore?
Yes. You can't fault AP for jamming on brakes, but it is definitely not "expected behaviour on our roads". I will not recommend AP for non-highway driving at this point of time. Especially if you're new to your tesla
Does this require a sim card?
eSim or pre installed
the only autopilot I see is that IU unit, auto deducting our money from our cashcard LOL
you could not put a card in ;)
SG roads are narrower than those in the US, the AP would be disengaging frequently here due to the squeeze
yes
I can help out with editing. But i think what you need is more of a well-thought out story-line.
please dont let your tesla start an accident and get rear-ended for nothing. turn off AP in high density areas
Yes you're right. That was the first week of driving and was learning the ropes. Anyone who's using any driver assist should be even more attentive.
Maybe SG drivers should learn not to tailgate and stay a safe distance from the cars in front of them. They’re among the worst drivers in the world, never seen drivers so willing to tailgate others at 100km/hh.
SG road is not suitable for AP. The traffic is quite dynamic. The Tesla AP technology is also not developed, with so many issues in the US and China. You are right, and shouldn use on normal roads
i think SG road condition is good for FSD. just need data to train it to predict the other road users behavior. but i believe tesla is focusing all their resources in US right now
SG is perfect for FSD. If you guys want to see this sooner, LTA needs to approve the full software suite!
@@Darcyds FSD is more for those long drive in Malaysia and Australia. Traffic is heavy in SG, you need to weave in or out of the roads. Heavy vehicles cut in and there, motorcyclists lane splitting and suddenly shoot from the side.
@@gabrielchan4420 No. Long drives are too easy a problem to solve. That technology has been around for years. We should push boundaries and solve the difficult issues. Never settle. FSD is meant to be autonomous and achieve level 5 eventually.
@@Darcyds the key word is "eventually". The technology is not here yet. Everyday, many upload video on the flaws of Tesla FSD. Not to mention, some results in accidents. Until the day when a driver is not needed, it is not true FSD. And autonomous just take away the fun of driving and control of a car. No different sitting in a taxi and someone drive for u.
Awww you gave AP a gender.
I did? Be like water :)
Hey Tesla owners and fanatics, here is something new! how about driving the car yourself and not letting it take full control while you freak out over its every move? You'd probably have a less stressful time. Seriously, can never understand people who fascinate over FSD. Adaptive cruise control is an option in many cars now and it's plenty sufficient for most situations. And if I don't want to drive from Point A to B, I'd just get a Grab rather than buy a car to do it for me. I can foresee many Tesla idiots trying this out right now and committing their faith to the system. Sooner or later we will start hearing road accidents from this just like in the US.
Happy to give you a ride. You are right that driving on the roads are dangerous. Roads are dangerous, at its current state: 1. Approximately 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. (Guess who's driving these vehicles) -www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/road-traffic-injuries 2. @@Darcyds @Tesla Astronaut 1. So you sure that FSD will lead to fewer deaths than humans at wheel in future? And if yes, how many trial by error accidents will it take to get to that state? So we should continue beta testing a product on public roads while putting other road users at risk till what extent? 2. Ironing out, yes. Right now, we have already level 3 examples like the Mercedes EQS. Ready though? "It’s fair to say that consumers won’t accept autonomous cars unless they are confident that they will be at least as safe as they would be on a commercial jet, train, or bus. That day is coming. But the automotive industry must get over a few speedbumps first." - doesn't convey much readiness to me, of yet. And even in the most advanced and sophisticated commercial planes where autopilot is so advanced, you do realise that even the most dangerous tasks of flying (take off and landing) and in the events of extreme weather, are still controlled by man and it's for a good reason. Fair to say that you cannot 100% commit to full autonomy of cars if even in aviation, where the situation is probably far less complex, you don't have that. 3. The examples you brought up are safety technologies that are necessary and intended to improve safety, hence the exploration into it is justified. Is FSD a safety technology, or rather one born out of convenience? 4. These tests are testing specific to the car's ability to perform emergency stops under their automated controls. I never denied that Tesla's autopilot is more sophisticated than other brands in dealing with emergency situations. But these dont matter there been failed situations like these in the real world applications, and people taking a system that is far from perfect for granted: www.google.com/amp/s/insideevs.com/news/525448/yosemite-road-tesla-autopilot-crash/amp/ www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/07/05/business/tesla-autopilot-lawsuits-safety.amp.html www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/tesla-crash-elon-musk-autopilot-safety-data-flaws-experts-nhtsa-2021-4%3famp www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/bradtempleton/2020/07/28/teslas-arent-safer-on-autopilot-so-researchers-calling-for-driver-monitoring-may-be-right/amp/ www.google.com/amp/s/jalopnik.com/teslas-full-self-driving-feature-mistakes-moon-for-yell-1847355050/amp The company can say whatever they want in the fineprint, but fact of the matter is this: there are people out there treating their Teslas as fully autonomous autopilot despite it being far from that. And I wonder why? misleading marketing? www.google.com/amp/s/www.insidehook.com/article/vehicles/controversy-tesla-autopilot-explained/amp The above elaborations are why Tesla accidents get highlighted. Your example of the New Zealand crash is irrelevant when it's not even the same context. 5. iPhones wont get people killed during the ironing stages of the technology. That's 1 big difference. Basically, people are getting too engrossed with an imperfect technology that is being misleadingly marketed as "ready". Just to be clear, I don't fully blame the technology on this, but the proponents of this technology and the people who are blindly worshipping/following it under the warped justification of it being the future. End of the day, we all want our roads to be safe but I wonder what kind of drivers will this technology inadvertently lead to in the future, if we are already seeing blind users of the technology today? This is why I am so angered by all this obsession with FSD.
@@lychvy8023 would you like a ride? No one is claiming it's ready. Have you not seen everything I"m posting is about how to use it safely and it's current limitations?
