Civil War 1864: A Virtual Reality Experience, In the Trenches: The Confederate Line

Confederate soldiers are in a late-war trench. One sticks a hat on a bayonet above the trench’s top log to draw enemy fire. Another uses binoculars to sight from whence the shot came while a third-the crack shot, shoots back… and celebrates another hit! Other soldiers talk of a home in the South destroyed by Yankees. They pick lice off one another and prepare for the next fight. Digitally animated shots strike the trench logs throughout.
Incredible
Have you worked for RE?
Truly amazing!
Great learning tool. This work is amazing
Great video! Although I saw too many kepis. My only issue is that by this stage of the war especially for the Confederates the men tended to bring whatever headwear they had at home. Other than that great video!
I assume you have experienced "The War of Northern Aggression" in a far more realistic environment than this video, also? Lol. 7th LA, PACS, here
@@sherilynn292 Well at that stage in the war it was extremely common for Confederates to wear round brimmed hats as apposed to kepis because it offered more protection from the elements. An excellent example of this would be this photograph taken on June 9th 1864 (same time as the Petersburg seige) at White House Landing, Virginia of Confederate Prisoners of War. civilwartalk.com/threads/confederate-prisoners-at-white-house-landing-va.119526/#lg=attachment133469&slide=0

Amazing!
Some people forget that sieges and trench warfare came before the Franco Prussian War or the Great War. These images are horrifying
Yes, they had trench warfare at Sevastopol in 1854.
The tactics and technology that would later be used in conflicts all the way to World War I were demonstrated during the American Civil War. Everything from the concept of total war to trench warfare, and even corkscrew muskets.
That was pretty spectacular. Great work

Americans: "Man trench warfare sure does suck. But I'm sure whoever fights the next major war will research this heavily and figure out how to handle it. Europeans: "Yeah right, a war where most of the fighting is in trenches? What are the chances of that?
All because one german general on the western front instructed his men to dig in and hold ground. From there, it spiralled out of control and nobody moved for years.
This is butiful
Well now this is what a good old southern soldier would feel like and I love it!

Sherman should’ve kept going smh
Virgin confederates, chad union men
Very cool video
>not enough Amen to that
I really like this, it gives an eye into the trenches, that would follow in WWI
I wish General Sherman would’ve kept going 😔
Great stuff. Interactive history. Hopefully youtube won't demonitize it like they are doing with many military history channels.
What kind of strange magical technology is this?
I know right?
Civil War Trenches were usually better equipped and better then WWI trenches.
What order do these go in? I'm confused
The video?

🇸🇴 🎶 We are a band of brothers And native to the soil, Fighting for our liberty, With treasure, blood, and honest toil; And when our rights were threatened, The cry rose near and far-- "Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag That bears a single star!" Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag That bears a single star. As long as the Union Was faithful to her trust, Like friends and like brothers Both kind were we and just; But now, when Northern treachery Attempts our rights to mar, We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag That bears a single star. First gallant South Carolina Nobly made the stand, Then came Alabama, Who took her by the hand. Next quickly Mississippi, Georgia and Florida All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag That bears a single star. Ye men of valor, gather round The banner of the right; Texas and fair Louisiana Join us in the fight. Davis, our loved president, And Stephens statesmen are; Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag That bears a single star. And here's to old Virginia-- The Old Dominion State-- Who with the young Confederacy At length has linked her fate; Impelled by her example, Now other states prepare To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag That bears a single star. Then cheer, boys, cheer; Raise the joyous shout, For Arkansas and North Carolina Now have both gone out; And let another rousing cheer For Tennessee be given, The single star of the Bonnie Blue Flag Has grown to be eleven. Then here's to our Confederacy, Strong are we and brave; Like patriots of old we'll fight Our heritage to save. And rather than submit to shame, To die we would prefer; So cheer for the Bonnie Blue Flag That bears a single star. 🎶 🇸🇴
Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern Rights Hurrah! Hurrah For The Bonnie Blue Flag That Bares A Single Star! 🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴
Yee Yee
Lovely, but does not change a thing. The confederates were traitors, fighting for the rights of the rich to own slaves. That was the states "rights" they fought for. The regular soldier was simply used by the southern Gentlemen to sever their needs.
michellejean11 Wrong! Can you read a history book?!
michellejean11 “We Are Fighting for Independence, Not Slavery”. - Jefferson Davis President of the Confederacy to Edward Kirk “Slavery is a political evil in every country.” -Robert E Lee “I am rejoiced that slavery is abolished. I believe it will be greatly for the interests of the South. So fully am I satisfied of this, as regards Virginia especially, that I would cheerfully have lost all I have lost by the war, and have suffered all I have suffered, to have this object attained.” - Robert E Lee “I have always been in favor of Emancipation.” - Robert E Lee “Let us stand together. We may differ in color, but not in sentiment. Many things have been said about me which are wrong, and which white and black persons here, who stood by me through the war, can contradict.” - Nathan Bedford Forrest “African Americans should have the right to vote.” - Confederate Colonel John Salmon Ford The confederate soldier “Fought because he was provoked, intimidated, and ultimately invaded” -James Webb Born Fighting a History of the Scoth-Irish in America “I was fighting for my home, and he had no business being there” -Virginia confederate Solider Frank Potts
After they have fired, they sit with their backs to the enemy and their heads sticking up...... ready to be blown away!!!!
Yeah I'd have to agree with you.
I thought this was a game trailer
😍
Who puts kids in war
Every nation that has been in war. Old rich men decide whose kids will fight and die for them.
Very cool! Now can you do one for the winners? Its hard to root for losers like the CSA.
crumbum2 So you never root for the Indians, France, Britain, Norway, Mexico, and so on? CSA soldiers fought in Mexico, Cuba, Frontier, and Philippines. They are 4-1.
@@bowen4878 ??? What history books have you been reading? The CSA died in 1865. Good riddance.
crumbum2 CSA troops are also U.S soldiers. Robert E Lee, Jackson, Longstreet, and so on fought in Mexico. Joseph Wheeler led the Rough Riders and African American Buffalo soldiers in Cuba. You need to hit those history books
@@bowen4878 That is revisionist history. They fought as US soldiers in those campaigns, not CSA soldiers. Hence the claim that they are the losers. Thankfully the CSA experiment only lasted 4-5 years.
crumbum2 No that’s actual history. Revolutionary soldiers were once British soldiers. They are credited U.S veterans and British veterans. Same thing for Confederate soldiers. They won wars wearing blue and only impressive battles wearing gray. Yes, veterans like Lee agree the country should be united. “Raise your children to love the United States.” - Robert E Lee

Why? What's wrong with it?
@@JohnnyReb If you do not know I can not help you. But did you know that slave owners had children with their slaves and then sold their own flesh and blood into slavery to be tortured and abused. Just saying.
@@michellejean11 Oh I see the problem. They're Confederates and not Union.
@@michellejean11 Of course I know that. This also happened in the North before the war and across the globe for thousands of years. No one is innocent. As a matter of fact slaves in New York who took part in a slave uprising were *burned at the stake* in 1741 according to page 79 of Complicity: How The North Prolonged And Profited From Slavery.
