24:10 is so heartbreaking. Even after hearing such a soft spoken, articulate and intelligent rapper, she just goes and reduces him to a threatening thug, most of which undeniably comes from him being black. You can feel the disappointment in Cube's face. Felt so sorry for him there. SMH.
The interviewer was also black and evidently very naive, I feel like she was warming towards him during the process. He definitely did not give credibility to the negative stereotypes about rappers and black people which are upheld in the media. Ice Cube is a Legend!❤️👑💫✨

L🤫L Fast forward to Cube 2020 🤦🏾♂️
As a dude in my late 40s, this makes me stand up in applause and smh at the same time. Ice Cube's artistic & mental genius crystallized in one interview.....explains all the success he'd go onto have (and still is having) in the entertainment industry. Smh because as a teen/young adult myself back then, this kind of Real Talk is what the masses needed to know about the society in which we live. Who knows how opinions and attitudes of those in the media/boardrooms/law enforcement/politics etc could have been changed or even prevented events to come by just Listening to a voice of relevance in the Black community.....from an intelligent perspective. I remember having to explain to my Sociology professor (who was from another country) how physical appearance is a major thing in American society. He asked how can this be true, because things should not be this way. I told him people here get jobs, attain wealth, get wives or husbands, run corporations, become famous based on the way they look----from the clothes they wear to an interview to the skin tone they happen to have----and this was back in 1993. So if I have to explain this to a paid teacher of young minds, obviously America could have benefited from an Ice Cube speaking the knowledge about why rap evolved into the style it did at the time or why the media assumed (and still assumes to this day to a certain extent) black culture is defined in a 7 second clip of a news story about who downtown got shot today by so-and-so and it's OUR fault for not raising that individual better. Stop that. Just like Cube said: we didn't come from Mars or Alpha Centari.......we were made right here in America. So stop running from the truth, listen to it, learn and grow. And just maybe we can 'make this land a better land than the world in which we live' (Pointer Sisters shout out) for generations to come......
So well put ✊
Very well put!
Listening to Ice Cube answer her questions not the way that she wanted them answered. But the way he wanted her to understand. Was absolute genius. The man is very intelligent
The fact that he never once interrupted and patiently waited for her to finish her bs questions in order to have the answer along with acknowledging the question is just incredible. His mind was far more advanced than they were ready for. 🔥
I wouldn’t call them bs but yk she’s from a different area and bringing up so she was prolly curious but he was mad respectful during all of it.
Facts
There is no such thing as ''BS'' question only a ''BS'' answer! As well educated he may be, fact is people were, are and always will be scared of things they don't understand. That's why we have such methods as the so called interviews on which you can hear the so called ''bs'' questions to bring some clarification on the matter... Maybe he did understand that at the time but still pushed his massage raw despite this but to me that's not the way. I mean, look how the RAP backfired on his agenda from the point of time. Nothing has changed for the better, it got worse. It's fake, overused, bleached slang used by bigger corporations mainly to make money out of little children. That's how you get to the point of the Kardashians, Lil whatever and CO... It's embarrassing to say the least. Shame that people like Jackson weren't allowed to make it ''big''. That's my point of view on the matter.
@@dominges well the guy I’m responding to said her bs question and Ik she’d be curious of his lifestyle

this was when rap was just coming about, it was a huge culture shock for everyone
@@anthonydavis9382 Well, rap by that time would've been around for 20+ years. Commercially however, yes, it was on it's way to being one of the biggest things to ever happen. The 80s and 90s in itself were culturally shocking. I get what you're saying and I agree. Although, what though provoking ideas by the people AREN'T culturally shocking...
„The media“. He really said that. When will people understand, that there is no such thing as „The media“? The freedom of broadcasting content as you please is the epitomy of your very freedom, goddamnit. Don‘t you understand, that posting a comment publicly on a social media page IS creating medial content? YOU are „the media“ right now. YOU are proving the level of individual freedom by doing so. How can you not understand that? The stupidity of people is the real cancer. Have a good day.
@@studiofatal2023 The media as in the paid media, the press and commercial media. There's a difference between YOU and the media. We are not THE media, but we can use THE media to our advantage. Let it be social media or news media, whatever. There are different kinds of media. People can be a use a medium and create content on a media platform. However, you're not that very media, because you're human. SO before you say someone is stupid, ask them what they mean, instead of just assuming. Not to mention that most media platforms don't have total freedom of broadcasting content, or expression. And right now as I type this, I do not have all freedom of expression (YT policies and other regional policies).
@@Boromir_vlogs You don't have all freedom of expression, because this is a corporate, commercial platform. You agreed on their terms of conditions. These terms of conditions apply to national or state laws, too. Nobody is free to say anything they want. Nowhere. And they shouldn't. There must be restrictions, if they weren't, even more people than now would cross lines. Think bullying or harassment. Or North Korea. My point being is, that some people mix up "freedom" with "I want to do whatever i want without being restricted". Societies don't work like that. If someone wants to be a reckless a**hole who doesn't agree on rules (constitution, laws, whatever) than why would the majority want to grant those egoists the same rights? We all need to understand our rights and duties better. "The Media" is just a very unprecise term for a construct that is very diverse. Of course some media outlets are way off (Think: Yellow Press, Breitbart, etc.) and yes, they need to be critisised. But the media's job is not to match everybody's beliefs or convictions. Their job is to report what's happening, and why it supports ... or threatens the society we live in. So, i stay by my point: People who blame "The Media" act stupid.

He's so smart, that he was the first one to leave the cash cow known as NWA, because he seen once that white guy came on scene, he ( ice cube), who probably had the most important parts pertaining to the success of that group, was not being compensated properly. And flat out walked away. Everybody know how smart Dr Dre is. But it even took him a lot longer to realize the same thing that cube seen early. How many young guys in the early twenties would leave such success behind, by two airplane tickets to New York for him and his man Sir jinks, rent out a hotel room ( in MANHATTAN $$$) for 30 days, then go find Chuck D, and the Bomb Squad, who reluctantly (because they didn't know if he was doing the right thing in leaving as successful a situation that he had been such an integral part of, And they ALSO, didn't want to be known as the REASON for Cubes decision) decided to produce AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, what are the most critically financially acclaimed albums in hip hop history. Not “sheesh” because while he was on point he literally contradicted himself when based off his original point is that his MUSIC is “THE CAKE” and HE is THE CAKE MAKER that people were mad at…but then went on to make the comparison with Alpacino chino playing a gangster and not being labeled a gangster…he was on point but he was literally arguing both sides of the fence in that one

Ice cube is amazing 🤎
After watching this I’m honestly surprised Cube survived that era. RIP 2 Pac Edit: Thinking about it, if this had been released, he might’ve had the same fate as 2 Pac.
I said the same thing
@SILVURBACC GORILLAZ cube was not a part of PE.

everybody knew how intelligent cube was even then, u think he only spoke like this or only had wisdom at this one moment? i don’t think cube woulda died either way… sometimes we view this world as far more complicated than it actually is
Wow...great interview man... I had to watch it twice..💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💯
“ I want my kids to hear everything because when they walk out the door they not sheltered from anything”- ice cube. Man this is truth if I’ve ever heard it. That’s the real!
Good solid common sense is timeless.
Some white people just don't understand, poor white people do, cube very cool and calm, and everything he is saying is truth, I understand everything he say, I'm white 70 years old, and been poor all my life, and every word he saying is truth, white people that have money, Don't understand shit, the lady he talking to, will never understand where he coming from, all po people know what the lick is, Black or white. White man with money, Don't go out at night, po people go out when the fuck they want too. She will never understand what he trying to tell her.

Cube was kicking knowledge ten fold in this interview, that's why it was not released until old
By far, one of the best interviews I've seen breaking down the perspective and informing the deep psychological meaning behind Hiphop/Rap music. Well the authentic ones. This video should be publicized and shown to every person that has something negative to say about the genre.
"Well, I don't think AL Pacino is a Gangster, but he does Scarface..." That's 🔥🔥
And yet she was right and he was wrong. Rappers were gangsters and they were killing each other and a good many are dead from that right now.

Thanks for stating this, it needs to be reiterated on occasion because peeps be forgetting-
Anyone calling themself a rapper should be required to take Cube's class and just watch this video. So many gems.
In retro, he was pretty much 100% accurate. The interviewer was VERY delusional then and perhaps now. There was this need it seemed to blame the rappers/rap. These negative aspects existed waaaaay before rap
He reflects the truth , like he say , they are not from another Planet 😂
Okay. So let's see what you got as far as bars? Cuz unless you rap yourself or "Call yourself a rapper", as you put it, you probably shouldnt make such outlandishly specific and arrogantly unwarranted comments on topics and subjects you have no ability to speak or "rap" about. As a person who raps, I can personally state that I love a lot of Cube's work, but he's far from being seen as one of the only, one of the first, one of the best, or anything other than an ex member of N.W.A., Westside Connection, and one of the most influential hip hop artist ever to involve himself in this industry and artistic expression in general. But nobody has to ever know a thing about him, or even have heard about him, when it comes to being able to use their talented ability with music and lyrics, regardless of who that random KZhead comment thread troll believes is an obligatory prerequisite. I'd you dont know whats rap, you dont know much crap, so if you see something that's hot you should still know not to touch that, especially when it's a genre of expression that you suck at, you schmuck rat, nut sack, fuck ahat you just spat, and next time you wanna try and listen thinking "What's that?!", face your ass away and you're immune (a moon) like a butt crack, I dont have time to write a nine for nine kinda rhyme but I'm inclined to find a line to try designin a clutch track, and no matter what anyone wants to call it, or when they hear, feel they must act, shut your trap and open ears, quit fearing "ITS JUST RAP"
@@jeffreybonanno8982 Calm down. The problem you by deference enable, cover up or ignore is how easy it is for any lame, done nothing, going nowhere, talking a lot, saying nothing, rap culture co-opter to call themselves a rapper these days. Very appreciative of her questions…. And he responded very appropriately 💯🙏🏾
What i like the most about this interview, is that the person interviewing isnt the usual critic. She’s actually listening and taking into account and its all making sense to her. As opposed to some other ones that believe they’re in the right so much, they ignore everything the artist is saying and just continue to try and reinforce their ideas like theyre speaking to kids. Props to this lady for being open minded in an age where everybody wants to be correct.
This ''stuff'' is new to her and against her ways which makes it interesting.
Some things and people were better back then.
I'm sure she took another listen to Ice Cubes music after this. You know she said "F the police" at least once in her life.
She definitely got schooled 🧐....then....whether she applied/applies acquired knowledge 🤷🏾♂️🤔

Asking a person’s age is a strategic subliminal question to make the person being asked feel lesser if there are people older in the room AKA the interviewer at ABC. Cube not answering was establishing his dominance in the room.
I love his charisma. I guess that's why he's an actor. I wish politicians were more like this. He's authentic and his answers are without the filtering, code-switching, or pandering / selling out.
