My thoughts on the Crowder Power 3 competition (I though it was awesome!) and some skating at Apex NC skatepark on the way home.

    • We are pretty excited for it too! I have remodeled my P-rail and gotten some decent jump on grinds. Used your anti-rocker wheels at the park the other day for some grinds. They work great! I will say that after riding the flats for a while now, I much prefer the flat setup at the park, but I do get serious wheel bite, so have been swapping back and forth. If you guys are ever up our way, we would love to skate together!

    • @@theaverageoldguy May have to make a special trip up one day! Yes rolling flat is more fun but gotta love anti on ledges especially. Glad they worked out for you. The pla+ filament I use is pretty tough.

  • Keep on going man! I'm in my 40s, just recently started park/vert a bit on inline, ever since it translated to every other sport I'm doing, be it cornering on road/mtb, wing foiling etc. There is something about carrying out/managing that momentum on inline that is so fundamental/essential.

    • I would really love to try wing foiling or kite surfing. I grew up at the beach and surfed, wake boarded, and wind surfed in my teens and 20's and that foiling looks like so much fun! The inlines have been a blast so far, but concrete is a lot harder than water that's for sure!

    • @@theaverageoldguy I used to kite for many years, after picking up winging never touched kite again. Winging offers way more freedom in swell riding, way safer, can go out in pretty much any wind direction, including offshore (as long as you account for swimming back). So yeah, if you were to start, don't bother with kites, go straight to winging. Probably 8-10 sessions to get going back and forth, but to really enjoy it in the waves - probably 2 seasons. I know concrete (or steel vert) is way more intimidating, but water sports have their drawbacks too, very high cost to enter (equipment, wetsuit, multiple boards/wings/foils, time to learn, location/drives/trips, etc), sharks, potential cracked ribs, potential foil cuts (like shredding your wing or yourself, the trailing edge on the foils is pretty sharp with applied force) and time (definitely 2-3x amount of time comparing just going to the park). It kind of works though, if there is no wind, go inline otherwise go foiling.

    • @@SilverFoilSurfer I hear that. In the mid 80's I attached a wind surfer gooseneck to a long skateboard and gave that a try. It was wildly successful, but but super hard to tack and gybe on a skateboard, and not paying attention one day, I took out the cable on my entire street with the mast. I then decided to cut up a sunfish sail and made a "wing" out of light wood and it worked really well. Should have marketed it then! It seems like anything to do with water has a high entry cost and since I no longer live near the beach, I have given up all those sports. I think I may try a wing foil lesson if I go visit family this summer, it does sound like a lot of fun!

  • doing good. nice frontside stalls on the coping. I've got to work on that transition stuff soon

    • I love the 3 foot wall at Apex. The transition is nice and its much less intimidating than our local park walls. I am slowly working my way back up the ones locally. I had done a couple them before my MCL injury, but mostly just a touch and go with both skates, and never with any consistency and always a lot of falls. I'm trying to improve the consistency and lessen the falls and its going pretty well.

  • Your transition from backwards to forwards is great. Are you actually jumping? I’ve watched some videos where people just lift their front wheels and pivot around.

    @MixinMum1210@MixinMum121013 күн бұрын
    • Thank you! I have been working on those really hard lately. I watched a Skatefresh video where Asha explained the back to front was a pivot on the heels and the front to back was on the toes and it suddenly clicked. I do jump a little as my speed increases, but overall that pivot on the heel is it. I have been working on jumping from front to back on transitions too, you can see a couple in this video and I have another one coming where I do it several places at our local park. Those front to back ones are still challenging if I have any speed at all though, so still working hard on those!

    • @@theaverageoldguy That will be the same video as I’ve watched. I find it hard to do because the wheel base on my inlines is long. I guess I need to practice more. Yours look brilliant 👍🏻

      @MixinMum1210@MixinMum121013 күн бұрын
    • @@MixinMum1210 The wheelbase does make a difference. My original skates had a wheelbase a couple of CM longer than my small size 909's and the extra length was almost all in the front, and that has made a difference for me on several things. Those boots were also a LOT softer as well, and I always wondered how people did the duck walk, I could not get mine up on the toe easily. The new skates being both a little shorter and much stiffer have made a lot of difference on that too. Good Luck!

    • @@theaverageoldguy I have the USD Aeon LE Team duo. It’s my first pair so I can’t compare to any others yet. Are you skating the 909’s at the minute?

      @MixinMum1210@MixinMum121013 күн бұрын
    • @@MixinMum1210 Yes. I have the small and my son the medium. I was looking at the Aeon's, but we got such a great deal on the 909's we couldn't pass it up.
