  • I know when it comes to Clark everyone is hesitant to recognize because the media did not do any favors to her with the overexposure, but think about that for a second, her 4 years in college she always has been in the top 5 in both scoring and assists. She´s the ONLY D-I player in the top 5 for both, that´s insane! And she´s blessed to not have any serious injury and she played EVERY game for Iowa since 2021. Anyway, maybe in 3 years people will forget about her hype and call Juju and Hannah the best but while this does not happen yet, just let us enjoy her last year in Iowa.

  • I have no complaints. I want to highlight couple of things that I've enjoyed most about Brink and Iriafen. They both are excellent at sealing of their opponents in the post and they do it effortlessly. I feel that is a skill that usually gets overlooked but following the of basketball I can that it is harder than it looks. I also like how the two of them can get the ball in the post and make plays for their teammates. Every game I've watched them play I noticed that they always have their heads up and are looking for their teammates. These are college players doing thing so early on that players at the next level are just now learning {yes I'm looking at you Embiid}.

  • I liked the comparison of Clark-Mahomes. Interestingly, this will be the first time ever there are repeat NPOYs in both men's/women's BB. This is primarily because Edey will be just the 2nd repeat men's winner (Clark will be the 6th WBB player to repeat). Repeating as a POY is tough because people start the season discussing all of the people who could challenge for the award, and human nature is to look for something different. Thus, you have to overcome the enigma and often have to perform even better than you did the year before.

    • I’m a Paige fan but would drop her a spot or 2. She has great advanced stats and efficiency but I was a bit disappointed with her lack of offensive aggressiveness and “take overness” in the big games. All the other players have had signature games or moments. I was kind of holding my breath all yr waiting for hers. Plus the big east was not strong so any good games she had there didn’t hold much weight for me. I’d like to see Amoore somewhere in there but then I’d have to take someone off the list which is tough. Again excellent analysis!

  • I’d put Aaliyah Edwards over Iriafen. She wouldn’t be averaging those numbers if she wasn’t playing next to Brink. Edwards is averaging 18 points 9.5 rebounds on 60% shooting from the floor as the lone post player on the floor most of the time!!

    • That’s true but Pac 12 competition is significantly harder than the big East.

      @maxpower247@maxpower2472 ай бұрын
    • @@maxpower247 Its not harder; it's run and gun vs defense, The ratings are showing bias not stats. It's not about the quality of conference its about the numbers. Edwards played 9 non-conference teams this year and still generated great numbers and never missed a game until the BiG East tournament. Some of the West coast teams who style of playing can be locked down by East Coast defense as evident when Creightin took down a #4 and #1 teams to get to the elite 8 2 years ago in tournament.

Just how you mentioned Coaches didn’t play their best players in garbage time, not true for Pili. Many games she piled on points during garbage time. She was at 31 minutes a game this yr. What’s crazy is I love pulling for her but man she looked bad a lot the last half of the season. She seemed much quicker in the SC game than the rest of the year

  • I'm okay with your list, but how do you leave off Madison Booker of Texas off this list? She is not only the Co-Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the Big 12, she is literally a 6'1" wing player playing point guard for one of the best teams in the country. She had to take over the point guard duties when do-everything point guard Rori Harmon went down for the year with a torn ACL. I'm not sure if you've even watched her play, but you should. She's a beast. Her midrange game is on point and she plays at her own pace. Teams know what she's going to do, and they still can't stop her. I do seem to notice that you're always talking about Hannah Hidalgo, JuJu Watkins, MiLaysia Fulwiley, and Mikaylah Williams but you never give Madison Booker any love. All of those talented freshmen played for USA basketball and won gold last summer. And guess what? Madison Booker was a starter on that team. So, give her a shot out and don't be so biased because you haven't seen somebody play.

    • There’s times where Angel Reese gets 2-3 rebounds from catching her own misses. So of course she’s going to average more rebounds than a post player who makes it the first time. She had the worst FG% out of every post player I’ve had on this list, and many of them shoot a lot more jumpshots. Why would I bring up Angel Reese carrying against unranked SEC teams? If she carried against Colorado and SC, that would be a different story.

  • As a UCONN fan I have watched a lot of Paige this year. The criticism of her stats against high ranked teams is justified but the lack of other UCONN talent is partially responsible. Good teams load up on her and other than Edwards there is no help or threat. Playing 2 on 5 this year has hurt her production against top 10. She has also played most of the year at the 4 and leads the team in blocks. Even Iowa's overall talent is better than UCONN and UCONN is only ranked 10 because they will draw a full house during the first weekend. Hannah and Juju are phenominal freshman. Love this year in NCAA WBB.

    @johnchampion6022@johnchampion60222 ай бұрын
    • How does one judge talent? Clearly the rankings by recruiting class are not perfect, but they are indicative. In that regard, Connecticut puts multiple players on the floor who were ranked in the top 20 of their HS class. So do South Carolina, LSU, and others. This is why your contention that Iowa is more talented than Connecticut baffles me. Iowa exactly one player who was ranked in the top 40 of their HS class. That player is Caitlin Clark, who was #4 in the same year that Paige Bueckers as #1.

      @RichardIILionheart@RichardIILionheart2 ай бұрын
    • The criticism against Paige isn’t justified. Those games against Rivers, Rice, and Harmon came in the first 7 games of the season. Paige put up 30 against UCLA & 27 against NC St. How is that not showing up? In the game against Texas, she has publicly admitted that she was mentally down. UConn had a murderer’s row of an early season schedule & given the injury turmoil, wasn’t ready for that level of comp. Each of the players that supposedly outplayed Paige in the 5 losses had their best games of the season. River’s hasn’t approached that level, Rice hasn’t score as effectively since, Harmon played her best game ever, Hidalgo was allowed to do anything she wanted against UConn’s porous defense, and Pao-Pao hasn’t shot as well from 3-pt land since the UConn game. Let’s see if UConn can meet Ohio St in the Sweet Sixteen again and compare having her in the lineup this year to last. If they happen to make it to the Elite Eight, she’ll be more than ready for a potential match-up with USC & JuJu.

    • Whenever I read someone bemoaning "the lack of other UCONN talent" this year, I cannot help but laugh. Yes, Connecticut has had more than their fair share of injuries. Yes, the number of available scholarship players is reduced. But every one of the players who played in the Big East Championship game was either ranked in the top 50 of their high school senior class (#1, 5, 6, 15, 41) or an international player of comparable ranking. So how does Connecticut lack talent? Compare that to Iowa, which has only two starters ranked in the top 50 of their high school class: Clark (#4) and Steulke (#45).

      @RichardII_Lionheart@RichardII_LionheartАй бұрын
    • @@RichardII_Lionheart I feel there is a bit of misunderstanding. There’s no argument that on paper, UConn gets top recruits. However, rankings don’t always correlate to talent on the court in college. I think it is fair to say that a number of UConn players may have been overhyped. UConn is historically accustomed to having 1 or 2 of the best players in the country on its roster, but if you look at this team’s talent next to some of the top 10 teams, from a talent perspective, UConn trails. Paige has to play the power forward spot because there’s no one else and she’s only 5’11. Throw in 4 freshmen in its 7-man rotation, this wasn’t the team envisioned in the preseason. You mentioned Iowa’s talent level. Their players, for the most part, are not top 30 recruits, Caitlin Clark being the exception. However, Hannah Stuelke is as talented as any player in the country. Kate Martin might be one of the most underrated players in the country & she and Gabby Marshall are both 5th year players. The major factor in Iowa’s favor is the continuity & cohesiveness of the team. SC has the complete package of talent, size, depth and coaching. One of the keys that allowed UConn to reign for so long was the edge in coaching combined with a superstar player or 2. In the last 10 years, women’s basketball has benefitted from more resources, better coaching and talent spread around the country. The closest team to a dynasty at the moment is SC, and even they are not invincible. If UConn can have an injury-free season next year, there should be no excuse with Paige & Azzi Fudd returning, coupled with 2 incoming recruits and a group of players coming off the injured list. Look for Paige to be back at superstar level next season.

      @violetforpb@violetforpb2 ай бұрын
    • Somehow, this narrative that Paige shrinks against top tier competition just hangs around. Let’s remember how long she was out recovering from her injuries. Just because a player returns doesn’t imply they are completely back. It takes time. A second consideration in coming back is that Paige had to learn a new position. Up until this season, she’s played the point and like Caitlin Clark, always had the ball in her hands. Coupled with missing over 18 months, playing a new position and trying to incorporate 2 freshmen in the lineup guaranteed hiccups. She’s led her team to two Final Fours. Her palmares is littered with top performances. If you watched her during the Big East tourney, she’s ready to reintroduce herself on the national scene. So, let’s see what all the haters have to say after the Big Dance.

    • @brianmchugh3757 Paige is a baller for sure. She is still in my top 10. She's just not back to pre-injury form imo. With the best win being #23 Louisville at home, #7 is where I have her.

      @Roadkill515@Roadkill515Ай бұрын
    • @@Roadkill515 I feel you are missing the big picture. This UConn team is not as talented as the other top tier teams. SC, ND, Texas, UCLA and others have more size, depth and overall talent compared to UConn. Paige’s stats are better than almost anyone’s when you compare efficiency, not turning the ball over, shooting %, court awareness, positional defense, etc. JuJu, while a tremendous talent is shooting a tad better than 40% & averaging more turnovers than assists. Paige doesn’t pad her stats against lower tier teams, letting others get involved. She’s taken more than 20 shots in only 2 games. All I will say, is wait for the tournament. Then, after an offseason where her body will recover and she can concentrate on improving her game, she’ll be in the running for NPOY and will be the #1 pick in the WNBA. Having her at 7 is a joke. She is the most skilled offensive player in the country & that includes Caitlin Clark. Clark does a number if things amazingly well, but her all-around game doesn’t compare to Bueckers. Paige can go to the basket with either hand, she can post up effectively, has an amazing pull-up jumper, a mid-range game, can shoot off the dribble, catch and shoot, etc. No other player listed in the video can do all of these now, or as of yet in the freshmen cases.

  • I don't know about anyone else but, I have a problem with how the women's basketball teams are judged. Men's sport games are judged by those who continue in the games and win the championship or the super bowl, then they receive a trophy and receive a ring. Those that wins to the end, receive a trophy or receive a ring. They are called the greatest players on the men's sports team. What happened with this case. Clark is labeled the greatest player but yet she doesn't have a trophy or a ring. So clark doesn't need to win all the games, win a championship, trophy or a ring to be greater? If Clark was black, would this man say the same. I don't think so. 🤔 Too much favoritism in this world. ✌️

  • Having watched about 25 Juju games, here is my assessment. Her package of skills, height, athleticism, drive, and competitiveness is Jordanesque. She is the greatest female player I have ever seen. And I grew up close to where Cheryl Miller played. Diana Taurasi is the greatest female player in history. Followed by Maya Moore, Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie and Tina Charles. Great but not exactly murderers row. Juju Watkins is better than all of them by a good margin. She is the Michael Jordan of Basketball. All of it. Nikola Jokic is phenomenal. At best he's the 17th greatest player in history once the smoke clears. Juju is the best in history now. She is 1984 Michael Jordan. Barely getting started, but even Bird and Magic said, "I haven't seen anything like THAT". Her weaknesses can easily be smoothed out with experience (Or a coach worth a damn. DO NOT get me started on Cheerleader Gottlieb). At this point Juju's defense FAR EXCEEDS her offense. A player that gifted should be shooting 55% from the field and 40% from 3 - triple teams be damned. The girl is 6'2". Once she does these 3 things, they should name the CPOY Award after her: 1. Post up AT LEAST 12 times a game. I did a 6 minute video on ONE of her post ups. It was highly effective. She'll be routinely matched up against smaller players and the defense will be at her mercy. 2. Shoot spot up jumpers when given. USC works hard to screen, cut, and create space for Juju only to have her recieve the pass and hold it for something better. It's like BRUH?? Shoot the shot we gave you! 3. Move without the ball, at least on half the possessions. It keeps eyes on her. When she's stationary the defense plays 4 1/2 on 4 and it makes it really difficult for would be capable scorers like Padilla, Forbes, and Marshall. A simple cut or run of the baseline would render the defense playing 2 1/2 on 4 and nearly helpless. Example, tonight vs. Arizona, Rayah Marshall was under the basket with the ball. Juju ran from the baseline to the top of the key. 3 players followed her, including Marshall's defender, and it was an easy score. Imagine exploiting that phenomenon for an entire game. Again, she's a world class talent, but her defense far exceeds her offensive capabilities and that should not be the case.

  • I'm shocked you had Angel Reese on your list at all seeing how her pro prospects are shot to hell by playing out of position and looking terrible doing it. She is being judged by how well she does with her back to the basket against post players 3 to four inches taller not her same size. She had a much better year last season when she was at the 4 playing with a legit post player. Angel would have had a better career and been prepared for the pros had she stayed at Maryland IMO. Her game was on point her sophomore year and from the elbows she bossed up Boston and Cardova in their match up in December of 2022. It was a perfect picture of Reese's pro potential if she could have developed from the 4. I know she left Maryland because she didn't want to get stuck at the 5 but she wind up playing the 5 in her senior year anyway further placing her face up game in the rear view mirror looking under developed. Her jumper on high school was just fine. Mulkey made promises to players she didn't keep and Reese not playing the 4 has damaged her draft stock costing her a deserved opportunity. Anesia Morrow was supposed to play the 3 she's at the four next year she gonna be in the same boat. Only promise Mulkey kept was to HVL she gave her plenty time at the PG through the growing pains. You do good analysis at least you not coming with that she's overrated nonsense with no bonafide assessment or thought provoking analysis 😊
