Factory Reset Asus ROG Ally - Soft Reset & Hard Reset (Cloud Reset via BIOS)

Soft reset - takes 30 minutes to 1 hour. Removes all data, settings, and the Windows account.
Hard/Cloud reset - takes hours but works if you forgot your Windows password. This will require you to boot to BIOS (hold volume down when powering up) and select cloud reset in the advanced menu. This will redownload Windows OS and reinstall a fresh copy to the device.
I just wanted to say thank you for this video. I bought my Ally open box from Best buy and it was still logged into the previous owner and wouldn't let me in without his pin. I did the hard reset and it worked like a charm. I knew the internet would have my back :)
For the Cloud reset , make sure you are on bios 3.19 , that's the bios version that introduces cloud reset .

@@sylverbar529 Battery life and I just felt like I'm jumping in too soon into the high-end portables. I had to constantly plug-in in order to get decent FPS and even then, I felt like it wasn't great and I would just rather hop on the console or PC. Another minor issue that I probably could have resolved eventually, was that some of my game saves wouldn't link up via the cloud saves and I wasn't planning on starting over. It's headed in the right direction but I'll wait a couple gens so they get it right. I'm not that addicted to gaming so didn't feel the urge to have the availability to play big titles on the device and it ended feeling more of a want vs a need.
@Mkinterol damn baby, that was quick lol.i feel you though, that's why switch is still King, though haters won't admit that. I rather wait for the powerful switch 2 which is straight forward. Got my rog today. Let's see how it is
@@kI2ispi doing the exact same thing. I had the steam deck and sent it back because the ally suited me better. But just took it on a work trip and tried to play and it would not start any of the games except 1 which the frame rate ended up being r e ally bad and the system shut itself down.
Me too, got mine in germany. Returning it because I thought I might need it, but its just a nice to have device, not essential for gaming. For that price one can get a decent gaming pc for 144hz FHD.

A quick tip here, once in bios mode turn off the fast boot option. It will cause your device stacked at startup screen

Do you recommend a hard reset or just a soft reset if you are exchanging the device? Mine has a defect and I am going to return it.
Soft is fine. It will clear the data and windows account. The hard took overnight for me.
do you need to install asus stuff like armory crate afterwards?
Mine wont detect the stock speakers and i've tried everything, do you think this might fix that?

Just a heads up, you have to be plugged in for the reset othewise it wont allow you to do it. Soft Resetting mine now to return to Best Buy to add to their already huge pile of Open Box Allys

is there a simple way to fix gpu reading as zero? its using it in game but armory crate isnt accurately showing that its being used. also windows defender is botched. everything else works as it should.
I did the local re-install factory reset option. Will that be an all night process? Because, it's been well over 3 hours of me waiting.
I did mine a few times on local and it took a max of 1 hour. The cloud option I did twice and once it took overnight another time it took 12+ hours.

Ok my rog ally froze after I got it working again my games kept freezing, asus assistant prompted me to do a reset gpu or cpu error so after reset it was working good but now I got every account login I went to hook up my earsbuds add device it says that this device doesn't have blutooth. I'm doing another reset. I even tried device manager for blutooth driver it's not anywhere to be seen

I need help. Few hours ago i made an update with the Quick Updater on the Ally. After that, every time the device wants to restart and then the blue screen "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart" comes up again. I can no longer get into Windows. What should I do?
Try the hard reset where you boot to bios.
I tried the hard reset by pressing volume down and booting up my ASUS but it just sends me right to Windows 11 Log in
IDK if maybe they changed this but I'm stuck at the step where you're in BIOS and tapping on the cloud recovery option. It yells at me that secure boot isn't active even though I enabled it. Some help would be great! I desperately need to factory reset this thing.

I did the recovery and after the reset it just brought me back to the log in screen it never reset i had a pin error and i need to reset to make a new account

I was testing a configuration that someone uploaded to KZhead and when I finished everything looked bigger it was nothing so I tried to go to the restore point that I believed at first but when I restarted it, it said that the PC was damaged and that it will restart the system, I did it several times but it didn't work. I restored it by saving my files but when it was finished, it didn't work any of the small buttons that are on the sides of the screen, it's like a normal computer without any of the systems that ASUS added to the console. Does anyone know what I can do to repair it? I've been with her for less than a day :(
I noticed that when you remove everything it also removes the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers and the other Asus programs and softwares
Appreciate the vid. Im returning it to best buy. The heat issues, sd card problems , and horrible rma issues are all too much for me. Lenovo drops in october for the same price with a much more impressive device. Stay clear of the ally. I shouldn't HAVE to buy an ssd because the sd card slot is useless.
For some reason mine is saying to type a “BitLocker recovery key” after the download finished. I typed in my key but then it’s stuck in a repair loop and then I gotta restart the process . Anyone able to help ?

Got mine today, updated the bios and everything but....my pin is not available when I login into windows.... couldn't reset it either....so I had to reinstall windows....bummer.
My ally just stop booting right it won't load amor crate it show empty command center. Then it will crash and say windows is not operating

When I was doing research on this topic, it seemed like a lot of people chose to reset the device the BIOS way. Why's that? Is it better to reset it through the cloud thingy? Is soft resetting it simply not correct?

Help, I factory reset my Ally and did the local reinstall option. It completed the reset, but now it's been stuck trying to boot up for almost 2 days straight now.
I factory restarted my device too, because i have bought and installed new 2T micron SSD. Will it do any damage if I soft reset my Ally after hard reset via BIOS? How did you solved it?
@@MakedoneCD I did another factory reset via bios and haven't had any problems since. Sucked having to reinstall everything, but I can at least use it. I didn't upgrade anything, so I'm not sure about damage.
We will see, I tried soft reset with cloud recovery option, fan of my Ally is rotating on so high speed and now I'm in recovery process. We will see how it will go. I'm doing all of this because I was having bug with armory crate, my LED settings didn't respond at all, and I was not able to even use quick menu via left button. It's so messy, I like so much how this device looks, it feels so nice in my hands, and that beautiful display got me. I got it brand new, I'm using it just 2 days right now, did SSD upgrade right after first launch, then I did hard reset to recover my system. I didn't even play anything. I'm hoping everything will go just fine after that soft reset. Keep thumbs up for me.

It seems like it's working, we will see tommorow, if there will be some more updates or not, this is what will decide. Last time before this happened, I updated Bios. But for now it seems like it's working. What a relief.
Hi, my Asus Rog Ally bugged during the reboot, now i have a blue screen intutiled "Recovery" telling me to go to UEFI mode. I don't know what to do now and i'm afraid to do a mistake. I can't come back i'm stuck on this blue screen... Can someone have an idea please ?
Can you try to force it off by holding the power button 8-10 seconds. Then boot to BIOS and do a cloud reset (the second part of the video).

So I’ve been doing a factory reset for 30 hours now… and at the moment I’m on a black screen with the ROG logo and a loading circle below it. It’s been like this for a few hours now… does anyone know if this is normal?
If the percentage is changing then it could. One of the cloud resets took a full day once for me. If it’s stuck I would reboot and re try it.
Had to reset mine today some reason my brightness wasn’t working my screen wasn’t working my amd driver was replaced by windows and I just came home 🤦🏾♂️😡
I tried to run the AMD cleanup utility to remove the graphics driver and it killed my PIN when trying to go in Safe Mode. I had no options for Wi-Fi or anything and it needed to grab an app from the Store. Needless to say I am here doing a hard reset because no matter what my Windows was hosed because now my PIN is bad. Such a terrible design.

I just bought the ROG Ally and boy ... I have so many issue ... cant connect to any game, i'm losing wifi all the time even when i'm close to the router ... the bios update fail 3 times before it was install ... couldnt reset by window because it was alway stuck at 64 %.... and now i'm trying the hard reset ... I paid 1135$ CAD for having so many problems. I'm bringing this shit back tomorrow.
Played Doom Eternal last night. Ran fine. Turned it off for the night. Just got home from work & turned it on. It would make it to the PIN screen but touching the screen did nothing. Tried system restoring it. Crashed halfway through. Now factory resetting it. I feel like a dumbass now because I was on KZhead bashing all of the Ally nay sayers & now I basically stuck my foot in my mouth lol. I can't believe how many people this is happening to. Unreal. Edit - November 8th - Blue screened again. Lost everything. Fuck this thing man.

I am returning my Rog Ally. I have both. Rog ally and Legion Go. Ever since I bought my Legion Go, i have not touched my Rog Ally.
How is the battery of the legion go. I'm thinking about to return mt asus rog ally. I Fell like the battery doesn't last too mucn 1:30-2h max

If you're still having this problem, you can try tapping the volume down button repeatedly instead of holding it. This allowed me to get into BIOs after holding didn't work.

The human reason I'm watching this is because I accidentally. Did? Something. Really stupid and caused my origin to the blue screen

you never said if deleting everything removes all the asus software including the proprietary software that makes all the controls possible on screen. I'm not following your tutorial and ending up like half the people out there who tried method 1. This is so frustrating I just want the moron's user name off my f***ing device and start from scratch. FML

Its junk. Returning mine. Been waiting 5 days for 1 fucking game to download at 2.5 to 3 mb speed on game passes. I have fast internet and all my devices have fast speeds.
