    • These NPCs can't do that. They were not programmed to physically do what you ask. There might not even be an animation for taking a sip. When you ask them to follow you or turn around they can't. Even if they agree they still just won't do it.

    • That wasn't Link though, not the same personality. In the previous video, I don't know if anyone else noticed, Trevor was talking to a guy on the street before he met joker Link and he also said his name was Link. I think there's a few of them walking around, the character names are probably limited and the NPC's choose them from a small pool of options. If Trevor manages to find the exact same Link, that looks the same and has the exact same or very similar responses, who puts emphasis on his purpose of walking around telling jokes I'd be impressed. I'd say the NPC's are randomly generated every time the games starts though.

    @xrusted@xrusted8 ай бұрын
    • You shouldn't be brought to tears, 'they' don't exist and don't have emotions or human desires. Every response and interaction that their programmed responses say are a huge accumulation of human interactions mixed with internet searches that have been compiled over decades by huge processor computers, in order to reply in the most accurate way to the question you ask. When they say they're getting a coffee, they're going to work etc that is a huge programme finding the most accurate response that a human would say added to a computer game animation, nothing more nothing less

    @juliapigworthy@juliapigworthy6 ай бұрын
    • No, as long as most of the world understands NPCs as lacking life and consciousness (which should remain the case), killing an NPC in a video game won’t be a morale dilemma you can compare to murdering an intelligent animal or human. I don’t know if we have a biological breakthrough in which we can merge life itself with AI, but for the time being, no matter how hyperrealistic or intelligent AI is, it is still artificial and it is still code.

It's really incredible how you can talk with them. In 3 videos, you can kinda tell their limitations (always circling back to the city, walking, etc) but some of them, if you talk enough, they start to spew some interesting stuff. It's crazy to me to think that there's NPC who can "feel" and are "trapped" within the boundaries of the game. The vast majority of them are fine with it but it's really twisted to think that some of them hate it and wish they could get out of it but they can... The really scary part of that isn't that some NPC told you that: the scary part is that *this* reflects real life. Most of us are trapped under poverty with close to 0 chance to get out of it.
