Just how GOOD was Roberto Carlos Actually?
Third episode of a documentary series where I plan to present all the greatest players of all time and then give them a score so a ranking of the best players can be created. In this episode we take on Roberto Carlos, but how does he stack up among the greatest of all time.
Roberto Carlos is one of the most respected players of all time achieving unbelievable heights despite playing in a often disrespected role, but how good was he actually?

  • The only reason Real managed to put together on the pitch so many talented players up front is because Roberto Carlos covered the whole left side by himself, he played as a left back and left winger all by himself. He was incredible.

    @JosesAmazingWorlds@JosesAmazingWorlds3 жыл бұрын
    • Pre-Galacticos Real had a left-footed corridor consisting of munitis,raul,Redondo and roberto carlos. None of them even cut in using their right feet. They invented, stalled, recycled and engineered attacks out of this corridor with ghost-like acumen reproducing goals with very few touches. In that era there were no left-footed right wingers or left-footed right forwards carrying the ball into the area unmolested. Defenders would cut them down quick. The counter-current players were centrally-positioned #10's but not wingers. The Ronaldo - Messi era produced a lot of highlight films but before them the game was more balanced both on the pitch and in the distribution of trophies. Still, the reason why messi and ronaldo are so successful is because they are altruists to their final touch when applicable. The skills that permit them to penetrate defenses with such ease are products of evolution and deserved to be exploited to these extents.

    • It was, but at the same time not. There’s a lot of favoritism, corruption and straight up bias when it comes to best player award. “Best player” these days basically just means whoever scores and assists most, which of course plays a large part in the sport but is far from all that matters.

  • Roberto Carlos was the greatest left back of all time, his 40 yard free kick for Brazil against France in the world cup is in my opinion the greatest free kick of all time. The way that ball travelled so far away from the goal and curved back in to score leaving goalkeeper barthez firmly planted in place is to this day still breathtaking to me and I can watch it over and over and be equally amazed every time.

Maldini comes close and Marcelo and Ashley Cole were also great but Roberto Carlos was just another class at that position. Roberto Carlos did everything you want a fullback to do at an elite level. There was no weaknesses. While Maldini transitioned to CB and wasn't as natural of a LB as Carlos in my opinion. Carlos had a all-time great motor and stamina, he was brilliant bombing down that left flank, quick, explosive, and we all know about his venomous shot and free kicks. He officially had the hardest shot in world football when he played. And to add to all this he was also a brilliant defender, tough and ferocious. Truly one of the greats.

  • The 02 Brazilian world cup squad was nasty good. Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Roberto carlos, and even Cafu. That's like stacking half the team with hall of famers and in their primes. Lol

  • His power for his size is truly amazing. Yes size matters in strength and speed. The world's strongest men are ALWAYS 6'6" MINIMUM ! Hockey players that hit the hardest Slapshots are at least 6'2" to start. The fastest sprinters are tall with their long strides. Short players have a cutback/quickness ability over bigger players (Messi ). Carlos just had a perfect storm of ability to launch the Rockets that were simply amazing!
