I can vouch for Katty's opinion on outside fascination. Both myself and my cousin's wife follow US politics more closely than we do UK politics. In fact, by know, we probably know more about US politics and how things are run than we do about our own parliament. I've always had an interest in US history, particularly around the US Civil War and if you had to press me, I'd drill it down to advances in battlefield medicine and the role of women in warfare. What is happening right now in the US is fascinating, not only because of the sensationalism and soap opera drama, but because it will be one of those periods kids will be forced to study years from now. The perspective of those lessons is yet to be determined.
