  • Honestly I'm not money motivated, mostly due to the fact that I was a carer for my mother from a very young child. My much, much older siblings _(20+ years older than me)_ are very money motivated and work an insane amount. We're very different and that's probably due to the fact they grew up with my mum being such a hard worker to provide to give them nice things whereas during my childhood, I was used to the struggle and going without certain stuff because she was ill. Any nice things I got I always appriciated greatly. As an adult, I'm more focused on my passions and doing what makes me and others happy. My siblings don't understand me very well and think I'm naive because i want to do something that's fulfilling instead of gruelling and backbreaking. They never understood that despite me having great grades in maths and sciences and being gifted in those areas, it was never my passion. I've always a very creative spirit but they don't see any money in that. My mum has always pushed me to follow my dreams as she had to let many of hers go to raise my siblings and has many regrets that she didn't pursue certain paths in life. She was a single mother and she drilled her work ethic into my siblings and made them work as soon as they could so they can learn how to contribute and provide. Those siblings had to let go of their dreams when they were young and they're now really bitter 40 something year olds. I never want to be like them. I had much more freedom to do what I want and study what i wanted with both my parents support and they seemed to really resent that when i was younger. I don't need to have lavish things in life like my siblings, as long as I'm doing what I love, can buy myself food and get clothes on my back then I'm content.

  • I was raised on the kind of sentiment of “do what you love, so you never work a day in your life” and “as long as you go to college, you’ll be rich” until I had to have it pointed out to me that I would need to actually find someone willing to pay me in order to make money. I’m 18 now and have no idea what I might end up doing as a career, even though I already have a university I’m enrolled in and a major chosen

    • @@megamegaO it was a random farm (we ended up renting from the people who owned the farm later on) but at the time it was just a random farm. the guy who was helping them was my dads friend but he had diabete problems (so he needed help and my dad thought it would be "a good job experience" so he offered to have us help; and we were told we'd make 5 bucks a milking) *we made nothing* lol (by we I mean my brother a I)

  • Toycat, I wanted to comment and I typically don’t because I always watch on my Xbox. So, kinda on topic to the video, work and play. I’m an EMT. I’m in America, and drive 40 minutes to and from work. I’ve found that the schedule I have, I work 24 hours on and 48 off, is one of the best schedules. I work, then the next two days I’m able to do whatever so I wish. I personally deeply enjoy my work and have such a passion for treating people. I get paid $17.73/hr. It is so fulfilling and I do wish EMTs made more. But I can work and then be able to do another thing I enjoy (video games, guitar, etc..) Just sharing my thoughts

  • For me work is the worst thing in my life. Its such a overbearing obstacle that im failing to get over. The fact that i have to do this for 50-60 years only to retire at an age where im too old, weak, and beat up to enjoy life is more often then not really soul crushing where i start to wonder if its really worth putting myself through this.

  • I have a problem where I want to work for free sometimes. I am good at 3D modelling and hacking consoles, some people have approached me to help them and offer to pay me, and I find it hard to say yes sometimes because I don't like making people pay. I like just teaching people without packaging it as a "course". It's a similar mentality to open-source software, and much like open-source software itself it has been detrimental to me.

The usual use for money is ultimately to raise the next generation. I do not regret for a second having children, in spite of the vast financial cost. What else that mattered more would I have spent that money on? 🤷‍♀️
