I wont break down the whole song because I believe it is easy to interpret but please some one either tell me I'm wrong and why or just don't comment saying the song is sick because of the lyrics? To me the lyrics are good, we need more songs like this and less songs glamorizing sex, drugs and a party life! Just my two pence

yes, thank you!! i think that people have an issue with lyrics like "You gotta treat me like a trophy, put me on the shelf". But they don't understand what she's saying. She doesn't mean "treat me like an object" or "a prize". All through the song she's saying she wants to be with someone who isn't ashamed to tell everyone they have a thing going on. She wants to be with someone who will show her off proudly. She's not looking for someone to just mess around. And if this guy is, she will just go on and find another one. If people didn't take lyrics out of context, they wouldn't be offended. Also, people are saying she's slut-shaming women. Where did y'all get that?? She NEVER says that girls who are ok with just hooking up are doing something wrong or shameful. She just states that she's not into that at the moment. She wants a relationship. The haters are the ones shaming HER for her choices.

People don't seem to be able to read between the lines these days. It seems to be an even more common problem with Trainor's songs. She is a great lyricist. The problem, I think, is that you don't get much of that on Pop Radio. I agree with everyone that agrees with you here, she is singing about how if you can't give her that title "Girlfriend", then you don't really deserve much more of her time. It's not about the title though, it's about committing yourself to the relationship. This is not a girl that is about giving it up to someone she doesn't see the long term with. Much respect to that.
