Homestead houses date back to the early 20th century after World War II when the U.S. government offered small parcels of land through the Homestead Act to anyone willing to improve the land by building a dwelling and cultivating the soil.
This led to the development of over 5,000 small cabins scattered across the Joshua Tree area.
