I hope this video can help others experiencing what my poor Apollo went through and you can get answers. After taking him to the vet 3 times he still wasn't getting better. So I asked for help on here. Syncope is what a new vet came up with after watching the video and listening to your comments. Just wish would of done this sooner, he passed away in June his kidneys failed on him didn't get him off the medicine he didn't need soon enough since I was trusting that he was having seizures even though he wasn't :( If any one needs help I hope this video and the comments will help you out. #pet #dog #dogattack #dogseizure #dogsyncope #poodle #miniaturepoodle #toypoodle #congestiveheartfailure #organfailureindogs

  • I want to thank you so very much for posting this vid. It has helped me so much, as i too have a little pom-pom with this condition. Also, i too have sought help from vet, with little to no conclusions. Most of all, i send love to you....that you and your little one always remain connected by the love shared from your hearts. ❤

  • I lost my beautiful Bichon two weeks ago he collapsed and had his last stroke. He was somewhere between 15-17 years old he was a rescue dog and abandoned so there were no records on him. He had another stroke about three years ago and we was able to nurse him back to health although he wasn’t nearly as peppy as before. All I can say is love them while you have them they are truly a gift from God.

  • Firstly, I’m so sorry for your loss Thank you for this video. My border terrier has just started to have these episodes but only when she’s excited or her heart rate goes up when playing. I took her to the vet after the second episode (didn’t take her after the first one because it was so, so mild, over so quickly and she was right as rain afterwards). When I took her in I explained the symptoms and the vet’s first thought was syncope. Her heart sounded spot on and so were the reflexes when she checked her eyes. She’s got Cushing’s disease and gets 3 monthly blood tests so the vet just advised to get extra blood for testing to see if there was anything going on. She didn’t seem too worried but it’s awful to see them go through these episodes. My Roxy is such a happy dog who goes crackers with excitement when she sees people. It’s really sad that she goes through this whenever she gets excited now 😞 but I’ll just be happy if the bloods come back normal and I’m told this won’t kill her. She’s been through so much this year: Cushing’s, then she needed her gall bladder removed due to mucocele and now this! Thanks again.

    • It’s narcolepsy. Triggered by certain emotion, such as excitement. It’s obvious here he’s sleeping. He goes right from walking to having a cataplexy attack and going straight in rem (dream) sleep, which is why he’s barking. I think, as I am a person who also has this, if it happens due to excitement, your dog was misdiagnosed. Most doctors and vets don’t even know that excitement is a trigger and can’t explain the five symptoms. I’d get second opinion if your dog acts like this for sure though

    • @@katesthgreat7552 I went back to the vet because I just wasn’t happy at all. They did a blood test and found her red blood cells were very low. She needed a bone marrow biopsy to discover the cause but she first had to have a blood transfusion to get her stable enough. Thankfully, the biopsy showed no cancer and I was told it was an immune mediated response so she was started on steroids. She’s now doing great and is being slowly weaned off the steroids. She’s back to her usual happy self now and I just hope she stays that way. 🤞

    • @Melfunction81 his started with just sitting there or sleeping and his head would just go straight up and back. He didn’t throw up. Then they turned into the video. After about a month they got worse he was on seizure pills all they did was make him sick had to wears diapers all the time because of the diarrhea from the medicine. Nothing I would do helped him the medicine didn’t help him at all. I just was with all the time and just was loving on him to keep him calm was the only thing I found to help with the attacks. I am sorry that you are going through this also it definitely is heartbreaking

  • I know this is 4 months late, but this definitely looks like syncope to me. My puggle has the same issue, which popped up about 2 months ago. My buddy's signs/symptoms are the same as your dog's. He starts kind of wobbling around and then his legs get really wide right before he goes to the ground. Sometimes he loses control of his bowels, which made think it was a seizure initially. It's not though. It's syncope and it lines up with his health history and signs I've observed. He was diagnosed as having an enlarged heart a while ago and he's on meds for it. I suspect he's dealing with congestive heart failure. Syncope is common in older dogs and heart issues are common with smaller breeds, so that's what the issue may be with Apollo. Check his tongue and gums. They should be pink and not bluish gray. It's good you recorded the episode so a vet can make a determination. My dog's last episode happened about a week ago and I recognized it coming on and caught it before he went down. I just put him on his side and tried comforting him until it passed. His heart was racing and he was practically hyperventilating. Apparently the brain shuts down for a few seconds because of a lack of blood flow. This is due to the heart working so hard. When it happened to my puggle, just relaxing and comforting him helps. He does seem a little spacey for about 15 minutes afterwards, but he does return to normal. He's had about 4 in the past couple months and none ever before that. One thing I noticed is that he drinks a ton of water. Excitement, coughing, and over exertion triggers the episodes. My suggestions would be to not overly exert Apollo on walks. Make them short and do it in the morning or evening when it's cooler. Avoid over excitement. When picking up Apollo don't put any pressure on his chest or throat. Grab the shoulders instead. If it's a heart issue these things will likely trigger a coughing fit and potentially syncope - at least that's what happens with my dog. Also be careful with leashes and avoid pulling overly hard because of the throat pressure. Lastly, just comfort your dog if it happens. Talk to him and reassure him. If you were passed out you'd want someone there helping too! Hope that helps, best of luck

    • Thank you for responding. I did everything I could. Didn't take him for walks if I did he was in a stroller. Limited his water drinking because he would have an attack drinking. Avoided any stressful or excitement. Just let him rest and stayed by his side. Unfortunately everything I did wasn't enough. He passed away in June. It took 3 diagnoses to find the right one and then I feel it was to late. Only came to the right one through kind people helping me on here not my vet thousands of dollars spend and they just kept saying seizures. Even when the episodes got worse with the medicine they still said seizures. The last vet visit was with a different vet and she listened to what I read on the comments and watched the video and said it was syncopee. The medicine he was on already slowed down his organs i only had maybe a month with him after that visit. But I spent every minute with him even in the end he was in my arms.

    • I m sorry to hear about Apollo. I am going thru something like this now. Mine has CHF and is taking Vetmedin, Furosemide, Spironolactone and Sotalol. It is a lot as taking care a sick pup is just overwhelming. He had something tonight like he was skating on the floor and I wasn’t looking and his nails were making the noise, I found him upside down trying yo get up. He finally did and saw the white frothy sputum, and like he vomited. It took him a minute to comfort himself, I grabbed him and held him. Gabby is 13.10 years old, May he is 14yo. What did you mean by the attack drinking? He started doing a lot of drinking than usual a day ago. The vet had told me not to limit his water intake as the pills he is on are diuretics, so more issues. What medications was he on? You mentioned that if you took him off he would have been better…. Going thru this sucks! Thank you in advance, you are so smart by putting this out here to help the world via Apollo. Xoxo

    • @@chickenfanactic I’m so sorry to hear about Apollo. I know it hurts. I lost my puggle Grommit, just weeks after I left my post for you. The vet found a large lump behind his shoulder that was cancerous. He declined quickly. The poor guy drank water constantly, rarely ate, and had no energy. The cancer was so aggressive that we eventually had to put him down because he became so sick towards the end. He went peacefully surrounded by everyone that loved him. It really hurts losing a friend. It took me weeks to get over it. I’ve had dogs my entire life and this one hurt the worst. There’s not a day that I don’t think about him 😔😥 When we were explaining the fainting episodes to the vet she felt he was having seizures. I was never able to capture one on video for the vet to properly diagnose it, but I know it was syncope and not seizures. Regardless, the vet wasn’t able to put him on any medication because he was already on a medication for his enlarged heart. I’m sorry you didn’t get proper medical advice and had to spend so much money. Vets need to do better. When I was younger we had a vet screw up and give our dog a steroid injection that was 10x the dose that he normally received and it killed him days later. Unfortunately I was the one to find him and I assume he died suffering. I remember my parents received a 3-figure check from the vet’s insurance company, but how do you put a dollar amount on a member of the family that was around for years?? 35 years later and it still bothers me. I hope you’re feeling better.

    • I wish I would of posted the video asking for help sooner. The first diagnoses was collapse trachea just put him on cough pills second diagnosis was seizures try a different medicine. This was over 6 months period even with the video they kept saying seizures but he kept getting worse by the time I got him diagnosed with syncopee with the help of using KZhead it was to late there was no helping him. I wish I never gave him the medicine for seizures and the cough pills it made him a lot worse. Monitor the water intake and excitement those were 2 big triggers for Apollo. I couldn’t leave him alone at all even if I left him with a family he would get anxious wanting me and go into an attack. Love them and watch for the triggers to avoid. Apollo’s we’re running walking for more than a couple minutes eating to fast drinking water more than 5 seconds excitement in any way even sleeping threw him into an attacks if I didn’t have my hand on him. I wish you all the luck for your toy poodle

    • Thank y’all. I had no idea about syncope until I saw this KZhead video, that’s why I assumed they were seizures. I was just curious if the Furosemide might be related to these episodes occurring or making them occur more often, since he hadn’t had one of these until after beginning the medicine. He had two within three days recently so I lowered his medicine and he has not had one again... so strange and scary to witness for our poor fur babies!
