FINALLY!!!! Someone who gives actual practical advice and not just aesthetically pleasing baby stuff. If you’re having a baby and what to know EXACTLY what you need, this video is it. I’m having my second baby and I’ve watched a lot of videos and everyone recommend all these cute stuff that you’ll end up not needing or just taking up space. Save yourself the hassle and headache and just watch this video a couple of times and make your baby list. You’re welcome
First time mom here, currently pregnant. Getting overwhelmed just thinking about what’s to come. This video is so, so helpful!! Thank you so much ❤️
Same too , this video has helped me and has calmed me and not worry lol xx❤️
Same. Im 22 weeks with a baby girl 💖 so helpful
I saw a post on another video that I thought made sense. They had friends and family give them gift cards so they could take their time to see what they needed after they had the baby. Just buy a few basic things to start with.

Good luck momma. I just had my son… baby #3. 2 boys and a girl. Even with this being my 3rd(and last) I was overwhelmed as well. It’s normal! You will do amazing, go with your gut 1000% no matter what.
as a NICU nurse, your points are 100% accurate! in the NICU if you can’t afford a crib or bassinet and pack n play is recommended since it does it all and it is safe. i love how you hit the main basics you need to keep your baby safe. great video!!!
I'd just like to add to this by saying getting some things secondhand is perfectly ok and also to keep and reuse things if you plan on having more kids. Not everything has to be brand new such as a stroller/ travel system or even a crib or baby swing as long as they are good condition of course.
Agreed! Most of the stuff we used the second time around was the stuff we already had.
though it is not recommended to buy a car seat second-hand! as you do not know the history of the seat. everything else though is fine second hand :)
Found myself nodding along to every point- such a practical attitude, love it, thanks
Hakaa and zippered sleepers!!! Yaaaaaass Sound machine: can use an old cellphone/ipad/laptop with white noise app.
This is perfect timing! Im 25 weeks pregnant. My first baby !
How are you now?
@@sanjidaislam1396 my daughter is currently 3 months old ❤️
SUSAN!! THE CARRIER HACK TO KEEP WEIRDO HANDS OFF IS TIMELESS!!! THANK YOU ❤🎉
No-touch thermometer comes very useful when you reheat breastmilk or formula too! It saves the argument between everyone in the house.
Omg! I thought this argument only happened in my house🤣🤣

All the items on this list are spot on, except, in my opinion, a baby monitor. I had my baby sleep in my room for a long time, I mean lonnnng time. I do realize not all mothers are okay with that, so it’s nice to have something they can watch the baby from across the house. However, I still feel that if you are a mom on a budget, leave the monitor for the toddler years and have your baby in your room for as long as you can handle it. Both my husband and I loved the idea of knowing our son was with us during the night. Nothing can be safer. He slept in his crib and we in our bed, in the same room. And nothing would beat that for us. The fear of having someone break in the house (it can happen to any one in any neighborhood) and knowing our son was with us in our room was very comforting and we could go to sleep and forget about the world. But if you want to have your baby in his own room I do see it as a must. I guess what I mean is if you are on a budget, why have your baby in his own room? You’ll have to spend more money on gadgets and things. Just keep him in your room for as long as it is possible. Also, if you look into it, it has been said that children have more confidence when they co-sleep with their parents. Co-sleeping is also sleeping in separate beds but in the same room. So it’s not like you are being a bad parent if you don’t have your child in his own room.
I totally agree with you I CANNOT ,CANNOT understand how can anyone sleep peacefully with their baby in another room. Even with the best monitor. I have my baby sleep in his crib next to our bed at all times. I'm scared to have him sleep with us, otherwise he would.
I’m about to have my first baby and I’m soooooo grateful I saw this! I didn’t want to go out of my way to get a lot if I didn’t truly need it and this comforted me into knowing basics are all you need!
Making my baby registry while watching this video!! So helpful!
Honestly a sound machine is such a game changer! We don’t even sleep train, we bed share with all our kids lol but I love a good sound machine because I even sleep better with it on, it’s so soothing lol.
We also bedshare and use a free white noise app on an old cellphone or mini ipad. Now at 12 months, i make a whitr noise aound to signal nap ot Bedtime and he starts rubbing his face as a sleepy cue...and it does drown out traffic noise, phone and conversation right outside the room.
Yes my son sleeps with us and I love a noise machine
Due in February. Baby #2. Really needed this.
Almost didn't get any breast pump, but last minute got the silicone one, and it was a highly used item just to save leaking milk during feedings. I could get a whole feedings worth of milk just because it was leaking. Never knew that could have even happened! Oh totally agree about sound machine, saved us for the period of time our baby was using it. He doesn't need it anymore, but it helped so much.
As a first time mom in a neighborhood with doctors and lawyers and feeling pressured to buy expensive aesthetic newborn items (but definitely NOT able to buy them)... Thank you! Your video validates my thoughts that simple, practical items are best. My house is old and not a modern "open floor plan" so lots of walls and corners that make it feel small. SO MUCH baby stuff would make the house unusable because there just isn't room for 1 of everything.
Yes we love the IKEA high chair! So easy to clean and it looks nice and minimal
Thanks so much for this. I’m 22 weeks with my first baby and am finding it a mine field trying to narrow down what is and isn’t essential kit. Yours is a really pragmatic and sensible approach
*YES TO ALL OF THIS VIDEO!!! I love that it is real and conscientious of those who are budget conscious and maybe even minimalist in their approach. 🙌🏾 Love this thoughtful content!! We appreciate you!!!*
love that you split this into chapters! thank you! great advice!
Probably the most practical advice out of all the newborn must have videos out there, well done
Just found out I was pregnant yesterday 💜 I’m 4 weeks along, so excited!! Thank you for this
Congrats! My son is 2 months old now and I miss being pregnant was such a wonderful time and beautiful, good luck
I think if you have a smaller bedroom / living in an 1bd apartment.. Bassinets are really really helpful! Not useless, but just it depends on living situations. ♡
I am definitely a carrier user. I hardly used a stroller once I got used to the wrap. The woven wraps can be used with toddlers and even preschoolers. So versatile!
Currently 6mo pregnant with my first child and trying to go for a "must have" setup because we want to start on her education fund right away so every cent saved is important. A few years ago we moved many states away from our family, so most of the things we have to get ourselves since we won't have a baby shower. So far we have: - Convertible car seat (all the way to booster seat). No mirror because based on our lifestyle (one WFH mom, one stay-at-home dad) there shouldn't be a reason to drive often and when it happens we should be able to have one parent in the back. - Used crib & leak proof mattress. Crib has multiple heights so there is a bassinet setting. A few crib covers. - A noise machine that is also a dim nightlight (so we can have a bit of light during nighttime feedings) - An alphabet crawling foam mat. Can be used as a secondary sleeping surface when baby doesn't know how to crawl yet, and planning on using it for some tummy time activities. Can put baby fence around it later to convert into a playpen area, and will be great as a room "rug" for when she's a toddler learning her abc's. - Adjustable cloth diapers (mama koala) and 2 wet bags. - Soft microfiber washcloths bulk packs (for burping, bathing, etc... ) - A bulk box of baby wipes. To be used while we get used to the amount of laundry for the diapers and washcloths. - A cheap bulk set of multiple small plastic bins. To be filled with a few clean diapers/cloths/wipe packs and we can place each bin in multiple rooms. - "Travel" changing mat, to use on top of our bed, sofa, or crawl mat because no changing table. Packs into a bag so can easily take from one room to another. - Clothes and bath towels from thrift shops so a mix of things. Most clothes/towel items are only $1 to $3.50 !! I might buy a few of the zipper onesies new just because so far I haven't been lucky enough to find those at the thrift store. - Foam bath mat. - A kit with thermometer, clippers, etc... - Baby wash - A few bottles and pacifiers. No point in buying too many until she gets to try the few we have so we can see which ones she likes. - A few toys that weren't expensive ( under 10 bucks) - Planning to breastfeed/pump but one box of formula just in case we have issues at first with either production or latching. - Breast pump system prescribed by obgyn, so it can be covered by insurance. We've spent around $700 so far and I think I've covered all the newborn necessities. Not bought yet, but will: - Stroller. Planning to wait until she's at least 3 months so I can buy one at a thrift store and not worry if the model can do newborn or not. Under consideration: - a babycot to be used as a bassinet/lounger. Not to be used without supervision. Alternatively, a bouncer/rocker. - a nested bean swaddle. Since we saved so much, might splurge on these, but waiting to see how fussy of a sleeper she ends up being first.
YESSSS Thank you so much for this video, so concise, minimalist, and really just the essential. Theres so many vids out there recommending too many items and confused which items to really get but thank you so much for this 💞
Thanks so much for this video. I’m going to be a first time mom next year and I found your input is perfect to avoid getting unnecessary stuff! Love it and keep up the genuine content
Things I regret buying: stroller, bottles, monitor, and crib. Don’t use any because my baby sleeps with or on me, hates her stroller, and does not need to be monitored bc she’s ALWAYS with me 😩 I bought so much “sleep stuff” because I was so sleep deprived when she was sleeping away from me. What I ended up needing: car seat, blooming baby (no tub needed), wrap/sling/ergobaby, zipper sleepers, muslin cloths, terry cloths, sound machine, bumbo for 6+ months, and that’s it lmao. We really are inundated with waaay too much in baby market-always preying on insecure ftp. All our babies want is closeness and attachment.
I tjong its natural for the baby to sleep close to the mom anyway it’s only in the west we try to force our babies to sleep alone and later in their own room. I’m pregnant and thinking about what to do myself. I want to buy a bedside crib/bassenett right next to me and wait to buy the real crib. I am only unsure if it’s safe to sleep with the baby so close and my husband or me maybe moving when sleeping. How do you do it? Is the baby sleeping next to you only and not in between and if on you how can you sleep good? I always sleep on the side
Coming from a former Children’s Social Worker, Just be sure not to role over on baby, that blanket or pillows won’t accidentally cover baby’s face. When baby begins to move around, baby won’t role off of the bed or when baby can only role on one side but not able to role back and is stuck with their face in the pillow or mattress. This is the reason no blankets, toys or pillows are recommended to be in a crib. When sleeping in your bed, baby is surrounded by blankets and pillows. SIDS is real.
So glad I watched this before starting my shopping! very helpful👍
Anyone else watching this and don’t even have kids 🙂

I love your baby/parenting videos. They’re so helpful 👍❤️
Baby wrap worked amazingly for me. Cleaning, cooking, laundry, nothing was impossible 🙂
Great list! I agree with all of your recommendations. Also thank you for the practical tips too!
This is by far the most informative/helpful video I’ve watched, thank you so much!
You have GREAT timing 😂 I’m trying to figure out my baby registry and it’s a little overwhelming 😅
This was really helpful and straight to the point! Thank you!
Great video and also thank you for taking feedback on board re the camera angles. Makes a massive difference for the viewing experience. Looking beautiful as always!!! Thank you so much for such an honest review. You helped me so much with my first baby, being a first time mamma is never easy! Keep up the great work!!! 👍🏼😘
Love this, pregnant with my second and this is a good refresher. Definitely agree on the ikea high chair, we had a beautiful expensive one to start, did not last long and was a pain to clean. The ikea high chair is brilliant, versatile and so easy to clean.
Agree with all of these! Especially the stroller thing. Get a LIGHT stroller. You’ll end up hating it if it’s big and clunky. Do NOT get the nuna mixx or nuna Demi. It’s like pulling a cow out of your car every time 😂
with my first i got the bee and LOVED it, for my 4th Im getting the ocarro
Thank you for that.
That’s where I disagree. We have the Nuna Demi and it’s amazing. Sturdy and the baby sits a lot higher then your average stroller
Exactly…I got rid of my Demi Grow and bought a Bee5. Best decision ever!!
This is a great list. I also found I needed a good baby bath tub, One that holds them up. And maybe a adaptable hand shower head.
I've been going for long walks with my boy EVERYDAY since he was 3 days old (we also had Bugaboo). Still using it occasionally (he is almost 2yo).
Oh my gosh this video is amazing! I need this! I have no idea where to start!
Thank you so much for this video! As a first time mama, pregnant with our rainbow baby, I’m so excited but nervous thinking about all of the logistics. This is such a helpful and practical video! ♥️✨🌈
Such a well put together video and great advice. It's so easy to listen to you and you cover some really important stuff that I struggle to find on other videos so far. Sounds like an honest advice coming from a friend. Thank you❤
This video was so helpful. I’m preparing for the arrival off my baby boy and I can’t wait! Your baby is so adorable
I’ve never felt like I hit the jackpot so much. Everything I chose was on your lists.👍. My oldest is 12 we just had our second baby.. so I feel like a first time mom again🤣 her dad as well. Wonderful video. Thank you❤️❤️
Found your channel with this video and found it SUPER helpful, thank you so much!!
So grateful I found this video! First time mom and I've been so overwhelmed creating a registry and everyone making me feel like I need so many things for my baby when I'm trying to stay minimalist - this video was a huge help!
This is such a good video! After having my first I realized that babies need a lot less than what you would think! My favorite newborn must haves that are not on this list are the Fridababy line of products for grooming etc, especially the windi. They’re simple and cheap and keep the baby and you so happy. That is the only thing I would add to this list. Everything else is either up to preference or not all that important.
Very informative and practical. Wish I came across a video like this four years ago. Learned the hard way🤣 but I’m here learning now, so I can do better the second time around.
I agree with just about everything. I probably would get a few more zippered onesies but that’s because I don’t want to run out if I’ve had a bad laundry week.
This has been 9-years ago, but with our first grandchild we Googled reviews on all the car seats & strollers. Purchased the Chico brand of carrier & car seat. Daughter loved the idea of not waking the baby transferring him from the car to the stroller. It also transitioned well when he was old enough to sit up. It was easy to open & close, but it took both hands to put in the car and was a bit heavy. The one item I purchased for our home was the Chico high chair. It’s all a venal type of material and cleans easily. Has adjustable heights in the legs, feet and can lounge if they were too young to eat with us, but we still wanted him at the table beside us. It has a high back with adjustable locking straps. Four grand children later, it has held up extremely well. The locking wheels make it easy to move around and the removable plastic cover on the tray makes for easy cleanup. My husband thought it was expensive, but I think for the $145 we paid for it has been well worth it.
I watched a lot of baby must-haves videos, this is by far the best and most practical! Thank you ❤
First time Mom. This video was so helpful. Added several things to my registry!
I'm pregnant with my second baby and this is very helpful! I definitely need a refresher as it's been 6 years since my first son was a newborn 🥰
IKEA was my go to for so many things, simply because they were so inexpensive. The high chair is awesome (and only $20). They have a great crib selection which are all very well priced, at least better priced than most of the big box stores. Chest of draws, the malm series in particular, are super affordable and last long term (plus serve as a great changing table in the early days). The only place I think it’s worth splurging is a crib mattress and perhaps the car seat. But, everything else, I’m a big fan of going cheap and/or going used. I definitely think buying a stroller used makes a ton of sense. I got my stroller used and it was half the price of new and barely used. With the exception of a few key things, so many things you use for such a short time that to doesn’t make sense to spend a ton of money. I would recommend Eufy monitors for a non-WiFi video monitor. I love mine, and I love it’s not hooked into my WiFi. Great practical video.
Pregnant and due in 3 weeks! Thank you for this!
one of the absolut best videos I ve seen for new born must haves ! Definitely my vibe her! Thank yoU!
I own my own childminder business and all we use for our babies are the IKEA high chairs! It’s my absolute favourite because most importantly it’s easy to clean as there’s no fabric, no funny gaps or anything you can literally hose it down, we also use them with our 6 month olds through to our 2 year olds, it comes apart really easily and there’s buckles to clip the babies in. We’ve got about 10 of them and I’d never buy anything else
I follow your advice religiously on skin care. Bought so many products you recommended because I just feel like I can trust your advice! I just recently found out that I'm pregnant and I'm binge watching your baby videos. They are so helpful!!! So, thank you for everything that you do.. you are such an angel!
Susan you are an icon. Never forget it.
Yes ikea high chair is the best! .
This video was EXTREMELY helpful! I’m a FTM and just found out I’m preggy 🥰 I also have no idea what the heck I need, and my registry is overwhelming lol. Thank you!
My bedroom is small and a crib would not have fit beside my bed, I love my halo bassinest for my son, used it til he was 6 months old as I wanted him to sleep in our room for the first 6 months and then we put him in his crib at 7 months and used the snuggle me organic lounger inside his crib. I am expecting another baby boy next week and will be using the halo again as it was super convenient for me:) its just about personal preference and I absolutely loved it and got use out of it for sure
I just had my 5th baby at home on December 8th. I learned a lot of this the hard way. We are beyond strollers. We use the 3 seat wagon and baby carrier!
This is the best video and I've watched so many. Thanks for hitting like the absolute key points.
I'll be starting buying soon! this came just in time, adding EVERYTHING to my list. Thank you so much!
All the best
love this video, so down to earth! I worked as a babysitter for a couple of families, the first one had one baby and the second had triplets, they were on a budget, so they only had cribs, car seats, stroller, high chairs later on and just a few toys. I mean it is possible to raise children without all the items influencers advertise. Than of course I might splurge for my baby, just because many items make things easier especially if you don't have a babysitter at all times, but don't feel bad if you can’t afford everything, your baby will be fine.
Yeah, especially since most of the items recommended here are $500+ and even over $1000, lol.
Yes they will. 🙌🏻
@@k.k.k.k.k.k.k.ke. lol. Get cheaper ones. I think the most expensive thing that a parent on a budget will get is the stroller. Try getting a set of stroller and car seat. Also you don’t have to get a stroller that converts to a bassinet. My son was fine with his britax, the set cost $600, you get car seat with base, and stroller. But there are other sets for like $400 that are good. So you can definitely go cheaper. Buy an IKEA crib, is only $100 and it will do the same function as any other for hundreds more. Highchair graco for $80. I love that highchair. The portable chair, there are way cheaper ones than the one shown here, for like $40 bucks. You will definitely need a bathtub for the baby, and also a fisher price bathtub is super good and not expensive. I used all of these items with my first boy.
Sound machines are amazing!!!
I love my baby wrap!!! I used my wrap with my toddler well into her first year. I stopped using it when I got pregnant closer to her 2 year mark but walks were spectacular. She would nap in it. I was able to wash dishes and eat, etc and still have her close to me. The baby wrap went from front carrying to back carrying so from newborn well into toddlerhood. I love it. I have a KeaBabies baby wrap
This is perfect! I am a first time mommy and I want to have only the things that I need. I want for my baby to have his/her necessity's along with a few extras for them to enjoy for play, stimulation and learning. Living a minimalistic lifestyle is one of my goals for the remainder of the year even while preparing for and after my baby is born. Thank you for sharing your category tip is great!
this is so helpful for expecting mom. so straight up. thank you
I love reading your emails and am now a subscriber. 😊 As a grandparent, I would dearly love content that shows how to support our (adult) children with babyled feeding in their journey of feeding their kids (our grandkids). I love watching videos meant for grandparents too❤
I watched so many videos about this topic before my baby’s due date and majority of them were not helpful and too much into or suggesting “optional items that you really don’t need”, they just made my head spin. And coming across THIS video after the delivery, i find this the only video that hit the important points and makes the most sense 👍
Baby number 3 for me… I learned I need wayyy less this time around an only got the basic essentials! Pretty much everything she mentioned is all the things I got this time around.. great video 😊
to add to the swaddle as a mist gave, make sure to get either ones with zippers or velcro. they really make a difference and also make sure you are swaddling correctly.
Thank you for talking about the pros and cons about the Stokke Tripp Trapp. Convinced me to keep looking
Hi! Me too.. looking into more now. What did you end up going with? Do you like it?
Sound machine is such a big help for me and for the baby.
Soooo helpful. Thank you so much for making this video!!!!!
Making my registry now. This has been very helpful. Thank you!
Love your hair!
First-time expectant mom here - thank you so much for this video. I took actual notes :) I appreciate the rationale and explanations of various products as well as the examples!! Thank you!!!
Congratulations!! ♥️
Love this video so detailed thank you!💕
Best stroller ever in my experience is a BOB. It's light for a jogger, compared to others. They're super easy to push. It will work on any terrain. A carrier is a life saver. While you're out or in the house and need to do anything around the house. If you want a wrap check out k'tan. Don't have a bunch of wrapping to do. First time using a wrap or carrier feed and change baby first then put in the carrier or wrap. Don't waste your money on a B'jorn. They don't have babies hips in the right place as they get bigger.
Yesssss we love our bob!!
@@ellieortmann7180 I've tried a few different ones and it's by far my favorite. When I had my second I sold my single jogger then got the double. Still light compared to others. My kids are 6&3. My 6 year to ld doesn't need it too often but my 3 year old still will and we have a baby due in July so it will get used for several more years.
@Emma Hawke If you run a lot it's worth the investment. I know they can be slightly expensive but they don't compare to any other jogger. I've ran with a few different joggers and most were difficult to run with. The Bob out preformed all others. I recommend saving up or seeing if you can get a used one off Market place.
Could you make a video of must have for toddler/ preschool and one for toddler/ preschool activities! Thank you!
Yes, please Susan :) !
I just found out I'm pregnant with my first and this video was so amazing and helpful. Truly, thank you so much!! ❤
One of the best, well thought out baby necessities videos! Thank you!!! 👍👍😊
Yes!!
Amazing video .. iam 34 weeks pregnant and definitely agree with the products Susan mentioned.. may be I will just cross out a couple of products like baby sling .. but over all it’s very informative and helps a lot in the baby registry
I ended up getting an uppa baby vista and loved it it was the one thing I went all out on
The most realistic and honest baby product video ive seen so far!
Both of your babies are so cute!
Thank you so much for this video 🙏. I am a first time mom so this is a great help.
my son is now 10yo and I still have his mousseline swaddles! now we use when we go to the beach, as a towel to plop my hair, as a way to block the sun coming from the car windows when we travel... and they still feel soft and perfect. buy some!
Yes! Especially the part about the monitor. I looked at $60 ones and $300 ones and the reviews are all the same. Also, the IKEA highchair is durable and easy to clean. Can’t beat the price, either.
Yes same!!
HI! Which Ikea highchair do you have & like.. I see a few and am trying to figure out what to go with.
wow thank you so much, first time mom here this is very informative!
Thank you so much, this video has been very helpful. ♥️
I totally agree with everything you mentioned. .
These are some of the most helpful suggestions and recommendations!💛 Thankyou for putting together this very thorough video! I can breathe now. Lol
Hi! just found your channel, Im now 12 weeks pregnant and this is just what I needed :) I watched some similar videos but I got sooo overwhelmed with all the fancy expensive stuff people have and show off.. it almost feels like watching big product ads.
