In the UK, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime. On average, it takes 7 attempts to leave an abusive partner for good, and the most dangerous time for victims is when they try to leave. 20% of children in the UK have lived with an adult perpetrating domestic abuse, which means as many as 1 in 5 adults go out into the world and into new relationships, not understanding that this behaviour is abnormal and unacceptable. I was one of those children.
Inspired by my escape from an abusive relationship years ago, this song has come to represent the end of every toxic relationship I've left behind, and the risks survivors take to live in the truth that the only person who should ever get to decide what you do with your life... is YOU.
For the next month, 100% of profits from this song will go to the charities Refuge and Respect, who help people in the UK fleeing domestic abuse. No one should have to live with being controlled, abused, manipulated, or frightened by someone close to them.
This song is my tribute to the bravery and resilience of everyone who has walked away from an abuser. And it's my rallying cry, for anyone who needs to hear it, if you haven't yet taken that first step. It's going to be ok - please know that wherever you are, I see you, and I'll stand with you. You deserve better.
Have Courage.

  • Presenting "Courage" - the first single from my debut EP, Syzygy. This is a song about standing up for yourself, believing in yourself, and knowing that you are a survivor, even in your darkest hour. Ps. If this message resonates with you and you need support, there are links in the description to help you find the answers you need. x

  • Thank you. I was in an abusive home and even the victims were taking advantage of me as I'm a empathic person without boundaries due to gaslighting. As an adult I was in emotionally abusive relationships. Now I know what empath and narcissist is and people's manipulation tactics. My eyes are open and live happily alone, still healing.

  • This is such an incredible display of musicality! The incorporation of percussive hits, harmonics, finger snaps, and other techniques really brought out the harp in its fullest. I really loved hearing the low resonating strings paired with the gorgeous high end melody as I don't often get to hear that part of the harp often. I also love the transition from dark to light in the video, reflecting the message of this piece. Really amazing composition, performance, and mix!

  • Wow, Amy, I‘ve loved your work for years, but this is a new dimension. This incredible flow and groove of the piece, so powerful. The second part of the filming, out in the open, in the light, after the darkness, and the message behind it from the video description had me in tears. It is such a strong statement. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️

  • Such a powerful composition! Just as powerful as you are! I'm so happy for you, that you could escape from your abusive relationships! And I just have to say: Your skills are truly amazing! As a harp learner I am always so impressed by your use of techniques and your playing style! Fusing these complicated elements of percussion, strumming and the ton of flageolets together into this wonderful music. It's just impressive how skilled you are. You were in fact the person who gave me the biggest motivation to finally start taking harp lessons a few years ago... I really look up to you. I think your composition transports such a strong vibe, as it probably should, it transports courage (I can really feel it, I hope it doesn't sound weird. But that's something I often feel about your music.) You really captured it perfectly!!! Luckily, I didn't experience a toxic and abusive relationship, but for me, your piece strengthens me to be more careful. The message you are transporting is so important! Thank you so much for your amazing things your do Amy, you are wonderful! Have a beautiful day!
