  • He said that his teacher told him that he would never amount to anything so he dropped out of school at the age of 15 and his mom taught him piano and the rest is history. Curtis is the Godfather of conscious uplifting music, so much for stereotypes lol He grew up in Cabrini Green Projects in Chicago one of the most dangerous projects in the country. In a country where there racism was twice as worse as we can imagine he played in packed all white venues. This is real music that reflects the REAL Black America it is untainted by the record execs pure soul.

    • I went to school with Curtis and went to his house to a party and seen him play and sing before he started recording. Had no ideas he was going to become so famous. He lived in my neighborhood and really didn't appreciate his music until I was an adult. I also knew Jerry Butler and The Impressions and a few other musicians from the northside of Chicago. But as a teenager at that time there were so many up and coming new artists, you just danced to their music 🎶 🎵 and had fun, parties dancing in the street. I didn't appreciate his music until I became an adult 😪 and I wish I could go back to that time in my life, I would have made different decisions. Love your music Curtis 🎶 🎵 and it will live forever, you were a genius, wish were still here. He and I were the same age, rest in Heavenly Peace 🙏🏽 ❤️ ♥️
