    • Well, by making their products 100% recyclable, there IS no e-waste. You can simply hand in your old device on your way to purchase their latest and greatest new device + all new accessories. I guess they could have also made their devices easily upgradeable so they are a one-time purchase and last way longer, but where's the money in that? Apple's gotta Apple.

  • I wonder about the future of iPad, especially considering there seems to be very little competent competition.

    @CalvinDraht@CalvinDraht12 күн бұрын
    • I would guess because the competition is not "a tablet": It is the microsoft surface line. Which I go to every time instead of an ipad, since I can't do things I have to do, on an ipad. If it would allow me to use an iPad for that, I would love to buy even a very expensive one. Since this means I can carry less stuff with me and I get some apps, that I really use like Procreate and others. Right now it's just not possible because you are not "just an artist using procreate", not an "videographer using final cut". My argument would be that the competition is seen wrong - it's windows machines, from asus and microsoft that you buy instead of an ipad since you can do all your work with it. maybe some parts not as efficient or "fun" with an ipad, but you can do them all. With an iPad you can't and thats the reason why I still prefer a windows laptop with a pen input screen.

As the video says, hardware is not just peaked but gone overkill while software is lagging so far behind it's missing basic desktop features found in 90s computers. That can't last.

  • Could you believe this is straight from their website when you click to learn more. "What matters to you matters to Apple, too. From using more recycled materials that minimize environmental impact." I guess they don't care enough about the environment to make your old stuff compatible. Also, these guys are intentionally using the keywords "100 percent" and "recycled" in the same sentence to try to make it as likely as possible to misread, i.e. "... that uses 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure." You know what's even better than 100 percent recycled. Being able to use your old stuff.

And as for speed… You can’t read email any faster, watch Netflix any faster, watch KZhead any faster unless pressed for time, can’t listen to music at quadruple speed… we’re limited by biology as much as by software.

  • Y’know another thing that frustrates me? They want you to buy both an iPad and a MacBook to satisfy the needs of both. They have a program called sidecar that produces near lagless, high quality streaming to the iPad. Which could essentially eliminate the need for a cintiq for artists. But they completely flubbed the pen pressure with it. So drawing anything meaningful is near impossible. If it worked as good as a cintiq, I would consider getting a MacBook, but instead it just makes me want to get a surface instead instead of having to get two more devices if I wanted to use professional animation software

    • not only that, imagine the usecase: Traveling with a macbook and ipad. You often have the problem of not really having a stable connection and settings everything up with wires etc. instead of "just go" for the moment is a huge factor. • Nobody is forcing you to buy something. I understand your perspective, but let's wait for WWDC 2018. I'm confident that Apple will implement features like pen pressure if the experience is great. Windows attempted to create a hybrid touch OS, but the experience was subpar. They took a different approach, which is acceptable. However, Apple strives for more than just 'okay.' It's important to remember that both Windows and macOS have evolved over 40 years, so it will also take some time for iPadOS to reach a point where the majority agrees: 'That's it! That's how iPadOS should be!' Every device has its strengths, and people should focus on those strengths. You mentioned that if they implemented a feature like this, you wouldn't buy a Cintiq; you would just buy a MacBook. Personally, I enjoy working on larger screens, so if they incorporated a 27-inch display into the MacBook, I wouldn't need an external monitor. Additionally, I appreciate having a portable mini-computer that fits in my pocket. If the MacBook could shrink to that size, I'd replace my iPhone Pro Max. Do you understand what I mean? Some things aren't meant to be because the experience would suffer. My setup consists of an iMac 27", iPad Pro 11" (with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil), and iPhone 15 Pro Max. That's what works for me. I've tried various MacBooks in different sizes, but they didn't suit my needs.

Apple has no real direction other than to sell you a product you don’t really need but has just enough to persuade you into buying it. Recently I was debating a new Mac Laptop and decided on getting a Linux machine instead.. I already have a super powerful Mac Pro desktop and an older laptop that is still performing well.. Apple also is iterating through these processors with like no parallel software to utilize it.

    • Are they really tho? Apple has been refining the direction of its products, including the M4 iPad, which offers impressive performance. However, the need for a new device ultimately depends on individual use cases. If someone doesn't have a specific need that aligns with the features of a newer model, it's not Apple's fault-it's simply a matter of personal requirements. The latest advancements in features like the new Apple Pencil or the M4 chip cater to specific professional workflows, such as art creation, music recording, or live editing, which may not apply to everyone. Apple's direction with the iPad seems focused on catering to these niche markets, providing powerful tools for professionals in various fields. Those who find themselves drawn to the latest tech without a genuine need for it may wrongly attribute their dissatisfaction to the company. Instead, it's essential to assess whether the device meets one's needs and whether investing in a newer model would genuinely enhance productivity or creativity. Ultimately, it's about understanding one's usage patterns and making informed decisions rather than blaming external factors for personal preferences or financial constraints.

  • The iPad Pro is undeniably a powerful device, but it's essential to assess whether it aligns with your needs and budget. For the majority of users, the standard iPad or the iPad Air offer functionality that meets their requirements. It's common for individuals to blame the device when it doesn't fit their usage patterns or financial constraints. However, before rushing to purchase the latest model, it's crucial to evaluate whether your current iPad fulfills your needs adequately. Unless your current device no longer serves its purpose or you've outgrown its capabilities, upgrading may not be necessary. The iPad Air, for instance, provides ample functionality for most users without the need for the advanced features of the Pro. Ultimately, it's about recognizing your usage patterns and resisting the allure of shiny new gadgets. The iPad Pro isn't lost-it's just not the right fit for everyone. Consider your needs carefully and make an informed decision, ensuring you invest in a device that enhances your productivity and meets your requirements effectively.

  • I’ve said for many years now, that iOS and macOS will eventually become one OS but it’s still a way off yet. Why else would you make the latest iPad Pro with an M4 chipset? I am typing this on my M1 iPad Pro and back when this one launched I did exactly what those people you showed in this video, I said WHY Apple? Why did you give it so much power only to hamstring it with iOS? It’s as if they can’t make up their minds; ror don’t want to give users macOS on a ‘touch device’ as it would be an admission not allowing MacBooks to have displays with touch features like Windows laptops was the wrong choice. Now, we have an even more powerful tablet but without the ability to actually use that power as there’s no apps that can use it… it’s even more powerful than my MacBook Pro 14” M2 for crap sake, apple! I am intending on buy the base model but only because it has a much better display than my current one plus I will get £320 for my M1 model in trade-in making it less expensive. I used to have an Apple Pencil back in the day but sold it and replaced it with a Logitech crayon as I only needed it for signing documents and filling out PDF’s (then sold the crayon when I got the Kindle Scribe) but I might… might buy the Pencil Pro this time around. What I won’t buying is the keyboard case whether that’s the Apple one or the other third party one as I’ll use my Apple Bluetooth keyboard I have. To be honest, I have an M1 Mac mini and an M2 14” MacBook Pro base model and I rarely use them as I tend to go to the iPad because it’s more convenient… now, would I be better buying a Windows Surface tablet instead of replacing my iPad Pro M1? There’s a thought…

If so, then wait for M5 and I think they'll launch Pro or Ultra iPad line with new OS then which coincides with Snapdragon penetration into tablet and 2-in-1 market competition. Knowing Apple they'll lock such a device into only the LATEST iPad so if you go for M4 iPad now, you might be locked out when that happens...

Still not good enough to replace industry standards, but for passionate semi-pro artists it’s actually a budget friendly option compared to professional drawing tablets (to my knowledge, I could be wrong and stupid) and comes with the extra entertainment factor of being an iPad. But outside of that very niche example, it’s a horrendous value. The fact that it has this keyboard also implied that Apple has every intention of breaking the product out of the niche artist demographic. But quite frankly, you have to be an absolutely deranged moron to choose this over a MacBook. Exceptions made for people with enough disposable income to buy expensive trinkets without having to think about their budget, of course.

  • I think the issue with the iPads is that they are aiming specific camps. I as an artist have a lot of interest for the iPad Pro because in my case I could replace my Mac with an iPad Pro. (I use procreate most of the time anyways and prefer portability) But I understand the general frustration of software, because I experienced that as well at some point. The iPad Pro really it’s just specialized for people who wanna draw, edit videos, and audio professionally. Yes there isn’t premerie pro or audity, which really isn’t an Apple problem is more of those companies problems for not investing. But it comes down to if you see your self working full time. My current iPad is the iPad Air 5 with the M1 I’ve used it to make almost 200 drawings and I’ve also made videos and other files and use it as a notebook and agenda.

  • its all very sad for me, cause for percicle my case of using i actually don't need macbook. The iPad suits me better - and I'm considering buying one - but damn, I'm so frustrated by the limitations of the system and the coast of product. Plus, I'm worried that I'll bend or break this new super-thin device after purchasing it. All of this together almost makes me depressed.

    • I think other comments said it best. The iPad is still great for certain use cases but you need to do your own research to determine if it’s best for you. The one upside of what Apple has done is that the iPad is so ridiculously powerful that you probably won’t need to upgrade it for 7-8 years.

      @MatthewSnyderPhoto@MatthewSnyderPhoto12 күн бұрын
    • Definitely would last at least 4 years (coming from someone Pre-Mx - 2018) but I have the same problem…with it being that thin, don’t I have to worry about it bending? Say I give it to a child, right now I’m fine because it’s a tank, but it’s as thin as a paper, I can’t rest assured unless a heavy duty case is on…which makes it useless

  • Personally, I feel it might be better if the iPads offered a sort of dual mode where you could either use iPad os or Mac OS and switch between them. An issue with both Mac OS alone for iPads and for touch screen Macs is that most desktops programmes won’t translate well to a touch screen platform

  • When Steve Jobs introduced the first iPad, he said that Apple wanted consumers to buy a third device to complement their iPhone and Mac. Nothing has changed in the 15 or so years since. Apple still want you to buy the third device (and forth if you consider the Apple Watch). Apple could build in functionality to iPad OS that boots into Mac OS, a bit like Samsung do with Dex and it would provide users with the ultimate flexibility, but they won't do that, because it will likely kill MacBook sales. At this point, we all know that Apple's claim about caring about e-waste and the environment is all fluff and bluster.

  • Hot take: the new ipad Air is able to handle 99.9% of people’s workload and the remaining 0.1% of people getting the iPad Pro is just for the 120hz refresh rate and not the actual chip performance and also the review channels getting them for free.

  • iPads are finally at Australia prices in the US and makes the Australian princes in Australia ridiculous I have a iPad Pro and it’s as cost me more than probably most people spend on a laptop here. The last thing I had a problem with my iPad Pro is performance it can easily edit 4K video and not even heat up it’s incredible but the problem is the price most people see an iPad as a kids toy now and or a tv for KZhead

  • We really don’t know about the software yet because WWDC24 isn’t here yet. But, I do understand the skepticism based on the track record. I highly suspect Apple kept some secrets this time around and saved them for WWDC24 at this point. I, myself, opted to upgrade this year from my 2018 iPad Pro. No regrets and I get what I want out of my iPads because I have the expectations set for what I do with it.

  • This video really sums up a lot of problems with Apple as a whole. The first being the problem with how overly spoiled some parts of the iPad community has been becoming more and more, especially after this recent Apple Event. And the second being how much Apple has been becoming more and more prone of being more contradictory and hypocritical with their push towards being a "carbon neutral" company or whatever with how much they've been doing a lot of BS that goes completely against it. Hugh Jefferys has been making video after video showing this more and more and it really makes me wish more was done to combat this sort of issue Apple's been consistently manufacturing more.

  • Great video! I just found it distracting that the music in the background was kind of like syncing with your voice. I want to get like my first iPad ever because I'm an artist and everybody recommends it for drawing. But all the artists that I've talked to said the 16 GB of RAM version is kind of pointless because unless you're doing like 3D sculpting digital painting doesn't take very much processing power. And you can't do a lot of stuff that a PC can and you're spending the same price or more than a high-end PC. I wish I could like spec this out but I don't want to spend over $4,000

And apparently they don't care if they just lose the market of any artist out there that needs desktop functionality. And now that Qualcomm elite is coming out stuff like the Surface Pro with a arm based elite chip is going to be amazing.

  • I think what most people want is Apple to turn the iPad into a Surface but for Apple to do that, a large number of consumers would just buy that singular product. They would not need a MacBook and an iPad, just the Apple-Surface, which means far lower sales which will hurt the core business.

  • I have a iPad gen 5 and a MacBook Pro 14inch with the M1 chip yea I like my MacBook but I pretty much only use it at school while my iPad I use every day I was about to buy a surface pro instead of the Mac because it’s a computer but it also works like a tablet one of the only reason I chose the MacBook instead was at the time I used a university grade math program that needed hardware wise a lot so I rather take the safe pick but with how I use my stuff I think a iPad Pro with the m4 chip and the option to use macOS would be the perfect device for me Okay we haven’t seen the full potential of it yet but im not using anything I don’t think it could handle I like Tablet devices more and I could use it with the pencil keyboard and a mouse and it probably still weight less but I know it would cannibalism the MacBooks to much so it may seem perfect but I doubt it will happened but if it does I probably get a iPad Pro 13inch 1tb later this year it will be price but if it got the software I think it will be worth it

  • If Apple says why make better, I think their sales will decrease on Ipads, funny thing is, my 2017 Ipad Pro 10.5 inches with Apple pencil 1, is as good as the latest device for me. After all these years of hardware iterations, I dont see a real reason for buying one, it broke and I repaired it but apart from an unrepairable fault, I wouldnt buy any other one. And if I bough it would be a second hand ipad that is not the latest generations in deed. Dont get me wrong, I love Ipad, Goodnotes notetaking changed my life, I even paint, if I can find a good industrial product design course using Ipad with apps like procreate or sketchup, I will enroll. But that I can do in my 7 year old Ipad... Why buy a better latest hardware device, if it aint any better with its same limited OS.
