  • Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful - Lucius Annaeus

    @chowder2323@chowder23235 жыл бұрын
    • Rulers seem to be the only people with any sense, if that's the case. I'm certain that everyone mentioned could find the usefulness in religion. Ideas certainly don't need to be true, to be useful, and human proliferation seems to suggest that religion is incredibly useful. A wise person wouldn't regard religion as false, but instead might regard it as undetermined.

  • You asked “can anyone relate to what he’s saying?” Yes, I relate 100%. I wasted 10 years of my life believing in nonsense. I was miserable and didn’t even know it. I always felt that there was something missing in my life and I tried with everything I had to fill that void with god. The harder I tried, the worse it got. I lost best friends, jobs, family, etc due to the fact that I was scarred to follow my gut. When I finally decided to sit down, clear my mind, and actually read the Bible, thats when I discovered how much fear I was actually living in. The Bible doesn’t teach you love. It doesn’t teach you rational thought. It doesn’t teach you logic and reason. All of those are what humans naturally gravitate to. Yea, some will argue the Bible teaches love, but it doesn’t. You can’t have love powered by fear. “Love me or suffer for an eternity” is not love. When you take a step back and look at how many religions there are, gods there are, denominations of the same religion there are, you’ll see things a lot clearer. When you see how long humans having been killing each other over who’s god or holy book is right, things get clearer. I can sit here and type for hours about how ridiculous religion is or how ignorant it is to blindly believe in some imaginary being that promises things after death, but I won’t. What I’ve learned is that we all have what we call “the purpose of life” answer, and they can be different. As we grow and mature, our purpose can change. As we set goals and achieve them, our purpose can change. The second I held my son, my purpose in life change. We don’t need some holy book to tell us how to act or what to do. We don’t need 10 commandments. Be a responsible loving adult and don’t be an asshole. BOOM. Moses could have carried them down the hill in his fucking pocket.

    • Brooooo I have had these EXACT FEELINGS. The way I saw it was that God the Father can only do so much for his child to grow. A child can't grow if the father continues to nit pick and interfere. He gave us freedom of will to choose what life we are to live. He surely loves us but if you spill milk, are you gonna clean it up or is your dad gonna do it for you. Surely he'll be there when times are tough but he doesn't send anything our way if he knows we cant get it done and come out on top. I experienced your feelings too and I just recently realised that my relationship with God was a physical one in that I only asked for physical comfort or materialistic shit...i never nurtured a spiritual relationship with him and that's why I was crumbling so easily every time I saw something that questioned it. Now, regardless what path you took I hope you're happy dude I just wanted to share my experiences too.

      @Plu3e@Plu3e2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Plu3e The issue I have with “he gave us freedom to choose our own path” is the that Bible also says god is all knowing. We can’t have true free will and an all knowing creator. You’re probably wondering why, right? If god is all knowing and has seen the beginning to end of every human, we can only do what god has already seen us do. If god knows I’ll never win the lottery there’s a 0% chance I’ll win the lottery. No matter how mint tickets I buy. If god has already foreseen the beginning and end of my entire life and knows I die a non believer, there’s literally nothing I can do to change that. I can only do what god has already seen me do.

      @jasonmiller8950@jasonmiller89502 жыл бұрын
    • I agree that religion is a facade created to put fear into us but at the same time that doesn’t necessarily disprove God’s existence. I still believe in a God but God isn’t what people think it is. I’ve been following spirituality and it’s been all making sense for me now. The afterlife does exist, there is no hell since that was just a tool Christianity made to put fear in us aswell, what really happens is that people reincarnate and have to start this life all over again if they’ve haven’t fulfilled their mission. And the good people die early because their mission is fulfilled and their souls is at peace. Religion has been brainwashing people and giving the corrupt more power when spirituality has been the true answer all this time, once people figure this out the world would be a better place.

  • Tbh, as a Christian, this song did make me think, I almost lost faith. But tbh, I think it's just because it's easier to believe God does not exist, and there are no consequences to anything. Honestly, I can not prove the existence of God, but I am sure he exists. From him answering just small prayers such as help me find something, to things just working out, even if that isn't what I asked for. I think it is healthy though to see an opposing view, challenge what you believe. Also if I die for nothing, if there is no God. I really don't care. Why is this life important, why do we need to enjoy it? If you believe you die, just everything stops, there's no regret you didn't do what you wanted to, there's no real point imo. I guess it could be my mindset, the reason I do things is in fear of regret, regret is one of the worst feelings I found, something you can't change anymore most of the time and you have to live with that. (I am not suicidal btw, I would never take my own life, I'll let God choose when it's time for me to go)

    • I have always seen it as oposite, for me its seems easy to follow god or a religion since you kinda know what you should and shouldnt do but for someone like me who was his entire life an atheist I have to find motivation to do right things for myself. I dont think there is any afterlife and I honestly hope there truly isnt one because I really dont want one while I also hope that religious people get to their haven since their "material" life would otherwise be wasted and I dont wish that on people. Still find it hard to trust religious people in general tho however I hugely respect your view point, wish more poeple were like you.
