  • I'm almost 38, and am facing my fear of driving. It's been hard to feel like I'm going to be able to conquer it because I have trouble with smooth turns, knowing when / how much to accelerate and decelerate during them, and letting the wheel slide back. I have anxiety so my palms get sweaty and I feel like I have to grip the wheel and do more work than I need to. I wish Jacqueline was my teacher, she is so calm and explains everything slowly and precisely. These videos have been helping with my anxiousness. I'm using a driving school down the road and the first instructor I had was a very young guy, and he was nice, but didn't explain things really at all. He just kind of threw me in to neighborhood driving and I was a nervous wreck. The second instructor was much more calm, seemed like he's helped people with fears of driving and I was really comfortable with him because of how he explained things to me. The third one I had was an older woman , who was very nice, and explained things to me well, but for some reason I felt intimidated. I guess because she's got almost 60 years of experience.

Obviously nothing comes even close to the real thing but building the right habits from the start does help a lot when put into the real situation i feel (at least for me it helped)

Half a log in lodged from under a big truck and flew across the road at me. I ran over it and destroyed my tires. Anyways, all this in cb ing the wheel looks like too much work. We did the hand over and it was so much smoother. Still do a version of it today.

  • This method is called Push Pull method it is the standard method in UK but not in EU. The EU safe driving technic is called scissors method or the cross hand method. When you turn hard left or hard right and leave the wheel to do it's own work,what if the steering mechanism fails and wheel don't return at it's own, can you afford to risk the safety of your occupants? Even the most reliable mechanism may fail at times.

  • I am from the Netherlands and was taught the 10 - 14 o'clock position. But it's nice to see the advantage of the 9 - 15 position too. It seems to allow the push/pull technique a bit more. Though, it does seem to be less safe as the steering wheel in this video is blocking a former feel if required sure to its design. I've never encountered a pot hole, so it's not necessary to keep your thumbs from grabbing the wheel. In case of emergency, i can imagine you would want to really grab the wheel and have control over it. At 9-15 and thumbs out with this wheel design might make that lots harder to do and may even cause you to slip your hands of of the wheel? /rant, what i am basically asking, is there a good reason for 9-15 and not 10-14?

    @QnA22@QnA227 ай бұрын
    • Both the 9-3 and 10-2 hand positions have their merits. The 9-3 position provides more leverage for the push-pull technique and allows for smoother turns. However, it's important to note that some modern cars have airbags located in the center of the steering wheel, which can be a safety concern for the thumbs-in position. In such cases, the 9-3 position is recommended. Ultimately, the best hand position may vary based on individual comfort and the specific features of the vehicle. It's essential to choose a position that allows for safe and controlled steering.

  • Legit, it’s confusing. I tried driving around slowly around a parking lot, but the steering is absolutely confusing for me. How much i gotta spin the wheel to make a good turn, when do i let go and spin it back around again. The only car in my family is some big ass bmw suv, so im in the drivers seat freaking out not to hit a curb or whatnot.
