  • I’m 51. Yesterday my 12 year relationship came to an end because I decided I couldn’t keep focusing on a one sided relationship. I finally got to the root of our issues and she was turned off by me as I’ve become bitter at work and I’m always negative. She’s 💯 correct. I went from positive and enjoyed playing rugby to being miserable and on the couch. I hate my stalled career and was trying to keep her through acts of service when I knew she had no desire for me any more. The good news is I’ve picked myself up after much worse places in my life and will go back to the gym and a regiment from my military days and start studying more to kick start my curiosity again and travel solo to where I want to go. I never got the kids and happy marriage I always wanted but have accepted that life can still be good when a person decides they want to change their mindset. Never give up on life. Fight for your happiness to the very end.

    • Best wishes to you in your next adventure! I’m 50, have been with my wife for over 31 years and in the same situation (with exception to rugby.) The timing of your comment is strangely perfect and exactly what I needed at this very moment to motivate the quiet resolve for balance. Ray Dalio mentions leverage in this short video. In a healthy, balanced relationship, the fulcrum of leverage is approximately in the middle. That is not the case for me and her. I need to find happiness and discipline for myself towards that end. When I can regain my own balance and happiness, only then can I seek the same with another, if that is what brings more happiness and balance.

    • Did she really have better options than trying to work things out with you? If so then fine. But I think we failed to defend our women from (((media))) and society-induced mental illness. Hope you at least let her have the cat.

    • So your Ex, after 12 years, has better options than you right now? If so fine. But I suspect you didn't honor your obligations. We need to take care of our women and the mental illness that is inflicted on them by our society. I hope for her sake you at least let her have the cat...

  • Im 43. I have no kids or gfriend. I have a good relationship with my Mum. I set myself goals all the time to give my life purpose. I try to help people where I can, without it hindering my own happiness. I have managed to start loving being alone and spend a lot of time running or hiking in the mountains alone. Its very liberating and highly addictive. I used to chase girls and spend all my money on them, but now its just all on me. Lifes so much less complicated this way. I should also add that I am a big believer in quality of life. Maintaining good mental and physical health greatly enhances this, with deep sleep (when your body repairs itself) being critical to successful health. Having a decent diet with minimal alcohol and lots of water also greatly helps too.

    • True that. Health is so fundamentally essential to us all (imo) throughout our life, no matter a baby or a senior It's like we can't even live proper life without health

    • @@ej7052Yes, absolutely. Long term good health should be a foundation goal of all humans in my opinion. But this is getting harder to do in the western world, because we are dealing with a mainly contaminated food supply with all the bad food out there readily available and constant adverts for it, its not easy.

  • I'm turning 49 soon. I was sick my whole life, until about 3 years ago. Managed to have two beautiful kids despite the constant hell, it made it worth the struggle. Now I have almost nothing, but yet I am the richest man alive, living a simple life in a cabin in the woods, content with the present, which is all anybody actually has. Philosophy, breathing techniques, psilocybin, and getting back up every time you fall, that's one answer for some, it was for me. I hope to help others in my remaining years, because it makes me happy✌️💚🖖

  • I’m 53 and I am totally in that not enough hours in the day to get things done. Had kids a little later in life so we dealing with the early teenage years, we have a special needs kiddo (mental health) so that involves therapy time, social service’s time to name a few. Add this to all the other day to day normal stuff like holding jobs down, running a household, 2 dogs to walk, feed etc and before I know it I’m done for the day. I never thought of meditation so I’ll give that a try. Thank you for the advice.

  • My advice for those in their 40s and 50s is to just stay physically active if you want to look good as you age. the less physically active you stay, the fastest you age and your flesh and muscles become flabby (hanging down). Go out there and enjoy the outdoors. staying indoors the majority of your time doesn't do any good at all and it just leads to a state of depression and laziness.

But this difference is huge, men and women deal with very different problems in each phase of their life. Women bloom in their teens and twenties . Men dominate in their 30s and 40s etc.

  • I am inventing a new meditational technique. It is a combination of technique that are out there. I would like you to try it out and let me know if you notices any changes. It is 12 mins long The first 3 minutes: You would listen to your internal thoughts with compassion, non judgmental non critical, like you are listening to your friend talking to you. but don’t get involved with your thoughts and idea. You are listening only. The second 3 minutes. Bring a feeling you have and wish to have for the day. For example calmness, peaceful. Bring that thought up and watch your feeling come and goes. Try to have that feeling come up in your mind and imaging how that would feel. The last 3 minutes. Place your thoughts on your breath coming in and out. Any thoughts come up thanks it and let it goes and refocus on your breath. All up 12 mins do this. Give one week and see how it goes. I am trying all these variation of meditation and it really helps

  • Mathematicians and economists will tell you: happiness is U-shaped. As a general rule, people are happy when they're young, becoming increasingly unhappy into middle-age, and then once through middle-age, start getting happier again. Apparently this phenomenon is so widespread, it doesn't just apply to humans - chimpanzees experience the same 'dip' in happiness in mid-life.

Peoples problems, the threats they are currently facing and will be facing in the future, is much bigger than the normal historical midlife issues in years past.
