That Lexus GX470 isn't being hindered by having the smallest tires it looks like driver error. What a shame because that is a beautiful super capable vehicle. Oh and shitty spotters never help.
Seriously, this was hard to watch
Thanks for the comparison video. I like the format you're doing. Keep up the great work my friend.
Thank you man. Appreciate it!
More great content as usual 👍
thank you!
Loved watching the rigs power up the loose rock!
thank you
I'm a Cruiser lover so this is great, however, if the goal of the vid is to compare all these fine vehicles then I feel having the same driver for all runs would be a much better choice. You can't really compare without that... (But I might just be salty because I'm an LX owner and expected more on his run)
I gotcha, it would be a more perfect comparison but I tried my best haha.
Slow and steady wins the race. Great work maneuverings through some of those obstacles.
thank you. And I agree, slow is the name of the game when it comes to rocky terrains
can you please keep these type of videos coming
Will do will do
Wow… love 200 series nice video

thank you!
Thanks for the video! Where is this place? I have an LX and am curious about off roading. But the nearest place from NYC seems to be 3-4 hours away.
thank you for comment. This is famous reading outdoors. About 2-3hours from NYC I think
Beautiful rigs! I myself have a lx470 and it’s been great to me best decision of my love. That 100 is looking heavy it would of made it.
Doesn’t LC100 have a standard center locker just like the GX/PRADOS?
Im about to upgrade my FZJ80 but I dont know what to do. Found a 1HDT 80 I like, but also a 100 series with a 1HD-FTE similarly priced. I love the 80 but I think moving up to a slightly more modern motor thats more comfortable might be the go. Is IFS really such an issue?
If you are purely offroad then I’d say 80 but if you are in road 60% or more of the time then ifs maybe beneficial
That LX470 shows the problem of having a heavy rig and open diffs and IFS. Lots of things working against the LX.
Yea that’s why he added lockers and regeared afterwards
@@4WDisLifewhat gear ratio did he go with? Also, what brand lockers and what mechanism of engagement?
@@theinternets7516 not sure about the ratio but in terms of lockers he went with Eaton harrop e-lockers.
What is the wheel & tire setup of the LC80 ?
Porque la LC100 lx470 no tiene la 4x4 puesta?
Very interesting
Thanks for commenting my friend
Not sure but MY03 LX470 went up steeper rocky hills and seems to be okay. Yours must not have Diff lock feature.
Does anyone know what type of rims does 80 series have?
Nice video
Thank you!
What mountains are you guys in for this video. I'm in East Tennessee and these mountains look a lot like the Appalachian mountains in East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, and Southwest Virginia.
It’s somewhere in the mid Pennsylvania
The FZJ80 is by far the best vehicle of the bunch and it is not a true "Rock Crawler" it is designed as a true overlander..overland... Now the FJ40 AND OR Bj40 is a true crawler.. This LX 100 is a get the family over the ski pass rig and it struggles in the steeps and rocks. IFS is No good.
I do have a spot in my heart for the 80
I have an LX470 as well. You can see on all of attempt 1, he hadn't given Atrac enough of a chance to lock the spinning wheel. He might have been feeling the vehicle backtracking and letting off the throttle just a second or two early. A trac requires the sensors to detect spin before engaging. I'm surprised he didn't break his front diff on attempt 2. What was his tire PSI on these runs? Looked like he could have gone a bite lower.
Now that I've watched the video, I see that indeed, the front diff has been blown.
Tire pressure at 18psi. Also unfortunately he doesn’t have atrac
@@4WDisLife Ah, that explains a lot!
Video says he doesn’t have ATRAC. Probably the largest reason for such a struggle.
Hi, I have an 06 Land Cruiser and is having the same clicking issues. Replace the front left axle twice and still making that noise when you spend the drive line has a play to it. The tire doesn’t spin for a little bit while the other tires to, also the axle is not a factory but aftermarket that I put in twice now. Do you think it’s because it’s the aftermarket axle or is the differential or is it because of the lift kit?! I put an old men’s shocks
So what actually was the failure? CV joints or was it the axle splines in the flanges? Great video man!
Front diff exploded

Do we have to replace the whole differential and put the factory axle to resolve that issue clicking noises? Could it be also the wheel hub having a plate?
A-Trak is more or less like a locker but electronically. Not a very good comparison, what can you do about it :)
Which lc frame is the strongest? I would guess its lc300
My sequoia has center locker and vtrc it’s very similar to ATRAC. Does the gx470 not have any traction control? That’s bizarre to me it doesn’t
at the time of shooting this video, it didn't have any additional locker nor stock traction control system, because some reason for that year, it had nothing like atrac for it.
@@4WDisLife wow that’s crazy. I can’t actually turn the ATRAC off in my limited sequoia first gen unless I unplug the cord at the brake master cylinder under the hood. Otherwise it’s full time traction control. No button to switch between the two settings like on the sr5 Without ATRAC you might as well have a 2wd mini van
For a fair comparison, the driver should be the same and of course there should be more attempts and different approach timings. But it's always interesting to watch how they manage the obstacles...
Sure. Just realistically, it’s hard to achieve and will be a much longer video which also tends to turns people/viewers away
is the 80 lifted? what tire specs does it have? thanks!
It’s got the ome 3inch lift that’s very old and leaking, and the tire size is 305/70r17
Adding weight on this ifs is not something I like - I would go for solid front axle conversion if I have the LX470/100 … and the 200 for that matter
Nice seeing the cruisers in their element but most of them seem very overloaded not something I hear about.... lockers tires height all important but weight is also important
Early 100s like this 99 has a 2 pinion front diff which are weaker than later model 100s. Also, locking the center diff would've made the LX470 drive under its own power.
He did lock the center diff. Still. No go 😂

@@najibafghan655 only buy toyota axles. Aftermarket is junk.
Fj80 is my forever crush
Same here.
now imagine a triple locked 80 series like mine
check out other videos of mine for that haha
Why didn’t the 100 have centre diff lock on? I have a hdj100 would walk up that
Maybe. Lol
Can join ur guys next time, but plz go on weekend, sat or sun....
sure. Where are u located
@@4WDisLife NYC
Are land cruiser 80series have no lockers from factory?
some do
Some are triple locked from the factory....
80 is good but I still don't understand the design of those radius arms, born for binding?
people underestimate A-trac. that's why i haven't put lockers on my LC200, until a trail proves to me that a-trac is not enough I'm gopig without them
The 1997 LC is an FZJ80, not an FJ80. 4.5L I6 with DOHC (225 HP, not 155) and a different 4 speed auto than the previous 4.0L OHV I6 and 4spd auto. Either your year is wrong or the description is.
LC200 had lockers engaged, look at 4:20. Wheel lift and no slip=lockers.
I'd love to see gen 1 Sequoia with a 2UZ VVTi / LC100 comparison
So not even the center diff locked in any of these?
All had center diff locked.
Fj80 all day
I have filed another fj80 tripled locked going up this hill in wet and muddy condition, I will be posting soon.
To be fair , you should have used only one driver on all three cars , here you see more of driver ability than car ability .
sure. But in reality, that’s not really feasible haha. Personally I wouldn’t want anyone else to drive my truck Offroad.
What engine was in the 100
4.7 I think?
I’ll take the 200 series!
Hope you enjoy IFS and shafts/boots...
The tyres makes the difference!
For sure.
We have a term for off-road vehicles with no lockers. On-road vehicles.
thats a good one. So I assume neither the 80 nor 100 in this video is offroad vehicle.
@@4WDisLife I have seen a Toyota Camry perform similarly on terrain like that. Just saying.
@@FJLC93 seriously doubt it.
@@4WDisLife why is that so hard to believe? The Camry had IFS and no lockers just like the 100. It didn’t have a roof rack or stickers though 🤔. Any vehicle with enough clearance would perform similar to the 80 or the 100 on this trail.
@@FJLC93 I will believe it when I see it, you forgot to mention suspension articulation, approach departure angle, traction control, low range gearing. Also, where do you see a Camry with that much ground clearance?
I am absolutely shocked the 100 series do not have any TC or ATRAC 😮
My 99 lc100 has rear locker and I would have made it.
Rear locker definitely helps
Usually the 200 that pops cv's The 80 driver needs to learn how to feather the throttle and carry smoothness like the 2 hundee driver did
Well. Lack of locker plays against smoothness
Did he deflate his tires?
Yes. 20psi ish.
i think it is the 100 series guys first time off the pavement lol
100 series need a new driver man 80 finished so fast man
LC 80 is the best haha
Haha. It is.
Yep!!
If it had the lockers hands down
For the love of all that is holy. Instead of two bumpers, just get one and spend the rest on a pair of lockers. Or instead of cool wheels, put at least one locker in.
Triple locked and 35s already since the video
every one of them has so much load lol. i guess that's just the norm in the 4wd community
Not the 80
We LC owners must have our light bars before lockers ;-) Just kidding. It depends on your mission - do you want to an overlander or a rock crawler; it is hard if not impossible to be both. For me, I want a rock crawler and I don't mind sleeping in my ground tent. Good job on making this video 👍
Yeah that LX470 has so many accessories, not even seeing/accounting the inside it's probably already overweight just with the bars work. Also seems its suspension is not moving much and not able to keep the tires on the ground so probably a bad choice of lift.
Lx470 тяжелее из за обвеса, поэтому уступил 80ке.
maybe if you guys tied your boots, you could make it up the hill
maybe
The guy in the 100 series needs to learn how to drive first lol
Lol
i think, what heavyweight rear and front bumpers, and you never to used them. you are dont forest man. For best vechical condithions for off road , you must delete bumpers.
Delete bumpers??. Your kidding right?.
yes, delete steel one! And change on plastic one
when i see massive strong steel bamper, i ask you: "how often do you used it?" Seven years i used toyota 80, but never
@@vitaliipomatsuev4836 where I live.. pretty often.
@Vitalii Pomatsuev I don't have a pavement queen. My 80 has some battle scars.
LX470 driver too much sleeping.
100 series is best
Depend on the driver
I climb that with my samurai with my eyes closed
You sure did
Air down more, get better rubber, snatching on that rocky hill??? You guys wouldn't last in Australia.
No bead lock, good rubbers already, no need to snatch on the hill since there’s vehicle towing him up, we can’t even last in US, so probably can’t last in Australia.
I am the original owner of my 97 FZJ80 with 327k on the clock.. and NEVER getting rid of it. I live 500 yards from the beginning of the Rubicon. The trail in this video I would complete in the highway gear L 4H and never putting it in 4L or engaging the center or front or rear lockers.... Childs play..
good for you
Insecure much?
@@chasechapman4689 truth hurts
good80, oops100,🎉
I saw lc100 do a lot better than this
Sure
The driver in the LC100 is incompetent.
Everyone has their learning phase
@4WD is Life true story but when you are posting a comparison of vehicles all your drivers need to be at the same level or its not a true comparison.
