That part where she talks about being taught to turn around and focus when something else is a flashpoint - that’s a life lesson. Focus on your own shit.

Such an excellent point of recall!
Well said❣️
Japanese culture
I think that if you didn't do that it would have thrown her off her game.
She’s not a young Serena, she is Naomi Osaka. She is herself
Yeo Kenjjo, Naomi is a lovely girl , her Japanese culture is her heritage, I love Japan and people, to be like Mr. Williams she would have to take a lot of Testosterone ( male hormones ) It is unfair to match Williams with real girls.
Of course she ain't. Japanese athletes are humble and are not know for steroid abuse.
When you compare their playing style. Maybe watch Serena's first grandslam wins to get perspective. There's nothing wrong with the comparison, both are incredibly inspiring women. Also Serena and Venus have been through an ordeal as black women and really paved the way for other women of colour, like Naomi, Even Naomi recognizes that.
Serena is her idol. Her father has said he watched videos of Williams coaching his daughters and modeled Naomi's play on the Williams' game.
Supermelanin different personality and Japanese athlete are more humble and they have culture
Naomi Osaka is like that adorable character who is like "you guys, i'm serious. don't call me adorable." but everyone is just like "aw
So truee

She is hinata
When she admitted that she was practicing her speech under the towel because she wasn’t “that good at talking” she stole my heart. I was like OMG ME TOO!!! I CAN RELATE!! And the fact that she was completely honest about it and didn’t feel the need to change her persona (even for the Ellen show) is just awesome sauce.. love her!
J C i loge her too
J C right the honesty was like aww
"awesome sauce"???
You dont talk much but write entire letters huh?
It's her boot lip, you know her big hanging lower lip
Hollywood is so confused by Naomi.. she is neither Narcissistic, Materialistic nor superficial. She is modest, humble, soft spoken yet firm and assertive and very very smart. Also she has that one thing sorely missing in Hollywood.. Innocence.
globalcitizenn I agree with you wholeheartedly. Naomi is very rooted and down-to-earth, which is TOTALLY un-Hollywood. Congratulations Naomi👩🏽🏸
I couldn't have said that better!
100% I'm hungry for more like her and PRAY that they don't PREY on her. I'm actually glad Adidas is a sponsor vs. an American brand that will try to sexualize her or boost her ego and convert her into what Serena is now. I also hope, like most Asian moms, Naomi finds herself a 'nice Asian' boy or some 'normal' kid (regardless of color) who doesn't know anything about Hollywood. That's the best way to stay sane.
VisualDisplay07 😂😂😂
Actually it's honesty and integrity..! Naomi Osaka is the best role model for the mellennials..!
She’s shy, down to earth and considerate to her parents. What a beautiful girl and amazing athlete ❤️
thats her Japanese side most people are like that in Japan children learn to respect elders and are humble

She is refreshingly unspoiled and just so normal. What a charming young lady!! One of my favorite interviews.
She was raised the Japanese way, hence the manners and grace in comparison to her opponent who had lost hers along with the tornement.
im bored
You sound ignorant. You act as if you've NEVER gotten upset nor angry in your ENTIRE life. She was being accused of cheating, getting bad calls on her, doing something she wasn't doing, so she had every right to get angry about it. John McEnroe and Andre Agassi had tsunami level temper tantrums, did you say the same thing about them?

Yes That's true. Thanks to Ellen
@Josh White , the ones I saw asked Osaka 10% about herself and then 90% Serena and what happened with her.
Watch the one she did with teen vouge, that was good too
@Josh White , well I answer. Ellen asked very little about Serena. She asked about what Osaka felt about the match. She is here because she won the US open. None of the other interviews asked personal non-tennis questions.
No offense, but it would be a lot more proper if she hadn't brought up the "controversy" that happen on the court and asking her about it. I haven't seen one interview where someone didn't ask her about that crap.
Ellen: "Michael b jordan?" Osaka: "Yeh" Ellen: "Yessss" Osaka: "Noooooo" Cracks me up
We must protect her by all means necessary.
The way she said “no” to Ellen asking to text Michael Jordan, with that smile is so so so precious ☺️
Michael B Jordan***************
Michael B Jordan is said to already be dating someone ..I'm glad she's not trying to disrespect another female.
Ellen disrespected her, putting her at the same level as a Hollywood bum.
She's just mumbling 'no' in protest as Ellen continues to text MBJ LOL
Kay Em Serena or Michael??? I think you’re talking about Serena but just to make it clear lol 😂 I think I’m slow
She seems like a very nice, sincere, and polite person! I feel very bad that she has to go through all of this.
What, do you mean when Ellen (like all the news reporters) asked her for her true feelings about playing against her opponent or the parts where Ellen offered her free stuff and pressured her to take a photo for a boy when her culture clashed with it?
OBiWan, Don't feel bad! A strong competitor she is. And it is probably one of the best experiences of her life! She wona grand slam! She played her childhood hero Serena! Her hero Serena told her she was fantastic! The only bad thing that happened was that she is misunderstood the tennis crowd for a few minutes--- she mistakenly thought she was being booed, but then she quickly learned she was NOT being booed, the umpire was being booed.
Obi-Wan Kenobi come on man ya ya people booed and she is the shy type...don't lose sight of the fact that she beat the best player of all time that's 16 years older than her, she is a world champ at only 20 yo. She is a celebrity and a millionaire... A lot of opportunities ahead... Why would you feel bad??!
Me too Obi Wan
Yaaa-YWG Third Eye she’s not a “world champ”, she won the US Open
Awe omg she’s sooo cute she was like “nooooo”😂
When someone try to hook up to other person or your crush It's a tradicional nightmare for introvert and quiet ones. I feel you champ Naomi!
Ellen is framing this conversation so well. Not just being witty, but asking questions thay suit the personality in front of her: giving us perspectives we otherwise wouldn't have known. That's how you do your job! Other reporters just want to center around overhyped drama (that was really just a bunch of misunderstandings)... so refreshing. Congrats Osaka.
"Misunderstandings" 🙄😂
@Summer Treneal Was thinking the exact same thing. This interview really exemplifies how good Ellen is at her job because she was able to ask the questions in a way that completely gave me a different perspective and more of an insight into who Naomi is. I've been binge watching lots of her interviews after her win and it's so true that the majority of interviews focus on the drama. I was so cringing at the MBJ stuff but it was really fun at the same time.
Ellen. Leave the poor girl alone! You making her feel uncomfortable. Trying to hook her up with MBJ and embarrass her on national tv. He doesn't even date dark girls. And nice thing with the payola crap. By giving her a Free TV.
Masta P What does payola mean?
Ellen that was hilarious. I am dying laughing, the selfie, the TV, the comments about the money. new Naomie fan here. HaitianJapanese girls rule!
i felt bad when she apologized to the crowd about winning. GIRL YOU WERE DOMINATING AND DESERVED IT 100%
Serena and Venus did an interview a while back saying Naomi was a good kid and that her level of play made her “dangerous”. Had the match been distraction free I think Serena would’ve been better at congratulating her in front of the world.
Me too...
I cried when she does that.
+Montae Williams Serena deserved what happened, she stirred up the drama to deflect from her losing, shift the blame to the umpire, she pulled the sexism, mother, feminist cards. She became the victim rather than losing gracefully, this is the second time she has lost to Osaka btw. last time it wasn't on a big stage. Her ego got the better of her!
Bad?? Why?? First of all it was silly of her to do it made no sense..and second of all it was fake no way she was sorry... But totally unnecessary in any regard... Just thank ur opponent for a nice match get the trophy and money and run...
Were you knitting😂😂😂
I found out about the match due to the whole Serena controversy. And i thought that was highlight of finals. But no one mentions Naomi and just how incredible she is as an athlete and as a person. How the hell can a story about Serena's controversy ever overshadow the victory of this. Its insane. She deserves all the praise she gets

Naomi was so adorkable and introverted and Ellen handled this interview really well.
A. Cammy I agree! Ellen did a very good job helping Naomi to be more comfortable and expressive! Gotta love Ellen!
Yes you are correct i love both of them
let’s be real... this is probably not the first time that you’re watching this
There arent a more humble person than her. Shes so cute beeing that shy and she definitly deserves this title
She’s so wholesome and humble, I love how bubbly she is without being so loud and obnoxious. The cutest!! Edit: first time I got 1k likes on a comment! Thank you :)
I hate the word "bubbly" with a passion. Just what the hell is it supposed to mean!!!!????🤬
Is loud and obnoxious a reference to someone?
There's nothing wrong with loud people... I mean I think she'd be great both loud and quiet :)
Nani Smalls how's she Humble?
@@ralphg2771 how do you know that is how she naturally is. When im with my friends i get real loose, but other people view me as shy and quiet. Out of respect to my parents, i behave proper in public..lol. Overall you don't know her..maybe she is all sweet, maybe she is in between, maybe she is putting on a show. 😄
She don't know her crush name in this Google era. That's how you stay focused on your work. No doubt..She's become a world champ at 20!
US Open champ. World Champ would technically be becoming the world number 1
SHE IS 20 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲
Anil Goud F o c u s something this generation lacks but all credit to her parents and the sport!
I love Ellen’s interview. It was all about Naomi and not Serena! Lol.
