It’s a good thing that they did a preservation of that bass. I would’ve hated to see that originality and history be erased by a repaint.
To have such an item passed to him from his father, now as he adored it is priceless. What I’d give to have anything from my passed father like this? I’d walk barefoot on Mercury.
I literally relaxed when he showed the back and indicated it wouldn't be right to paint over the stories that wear told. That's the right mindset for this type of work.
“This is one of the most import parts of restoring a guitar” The stuff this show shows us is amazing.
No way, this man fucked up this neck. Come on, this is not original at all, no decal and a neck shave. Bullshit.
"I believe in Miracles..........." I loved Hot Chocolate!
🎶 I believe in miracles, since you came along....you sexy thing! 🎶 Good memories right there!❤️
REPAIR SHOP IS AN AMAZING SHOW. They do GREAT work.
Not here. This was bad.
I have that same jazz 1972 but without the guards ... Nice restoration
No way
Great show especially with the new guitar man
Brother louie,great music.nice job guys.
Tony Wilson co-wrote all the early hits : "You Could Have Been a Lady", "Brother Louie", "Emma", "Disco Queen" and of course "You Sexy Thing". See the bass in action here : kzhead.info/sun/qb6Ye8eKrYmndZs/bejne.html
Wow...GENIUSES!!
It was just a refret. It's a routine repair/upgrade. Removing the headstock logo is gobsmacking malpractice. He destroyed the value of the bass. Not a genius but a hack.
Could have routed out the section of missing neck and put in a piece of material then sanded back to the shape of the neck. Can't believe he shaved the whole neck
Cannot find guitar restore repair work like that in Colorado US
The bass can be seen on the Brother Louie video. No stickers and no chrome covers.
I was interested in this because I remember seeing the original with its chrome covers & they are the only difference between this & my fender jazz bass - well except mine is pretty well mint & probably a lot newer.
THE DIRT KEEPS THE FUNK!!!
Never to late to earn the guitar 🎸but HOT CHOCOLATE?? listened to them on the radio growing up in the 7O's..
Interesting case
Hot Chocolate is a Great Band!!!
Great piece of music history and an awesome band
How come all of the video clips the bassest is left handed?
I believe in Miracles.. U sexy Thing. Solid...! Amazing work done.
I thought the bass player was left handed? Obviously the band had two separate bass players. I was surprised they shaved the neck of the guitar down. Could they have filled in the damage on the neck rather than shaving it down?
Nice
nice job..shame they lost the original fender logo on headstock...see 4.35 otherwise great.
Yes outside of that total fail, wonderful work.
I sure would like to know how much it cost to restore that instrument
I can probably help! I run a guitar repair business. For the work done I would have quoted £335, refret is the dearest part, bearing in mind I would have approached the neck slightly differently so with the strip and re fin he did probably looking at about £400. I believe Davids prices are similar to my own hope that answers your question!
@@joesharpe7685 Would you ever consider running a workshop where someone could join you to build their own guitar?
@@domwood8373 I definitely wouldn’t be against the idea for the future, but my day to day is repair/set ups, and so I’m not equipped to build absolutely anything someone may want. The guitars I have built reflect a build style based on what tools I have to me. And my experience with building is far from expert, it’s a side hobby that obviously pairs well when I’m working on guitars all day!
@@joesharpe7685 what are the metal bits over the strings where the player would strum it? are they just protectors for when its in transit? thanks
@@bidders77 no that is a pickup cover. It’s quite an arbitrary thing now, I believe back in the day it was used to help lower feedback and interference with the pickup.
Maybe it's an ergonomic reason behind it. To constantly feel like you would get a splinter in your hand would make it unbearable to play and besides that fast movements to make uptempo music must be a vital thing.
Dammmm you just KILLED THE RESALE VALUE
Removing the headstock logo is gobsmacking malpractice. He destroyed the value of the bass. Shaving down an already thin Jazz neck is stupid. What a hack.
Looks like the 'Fender' logo had already been removed by the owner. As the luthier starts removing the old strings, you will see that the logo is already missing @ 3:19 But surprisingly, the Luthier applied a replacement logo, which you can see if you pause at 7:45 🙂
@@Austin4098Good call. I did miss that.
This is not an old bass….the F-logo is a ‘76 Jazzbass and not 66 Jazzbass….it’s fake.
"value" It has SENTIMENTAL value which is more important than financial value.
Only one problem......I've only seen Hot Chocolate with a left handed bass player.
That’s Patrick Olive - who took over on bass eventually
A ‘66 Jazzbass…..no way!!! The neckplate serial no. It’s a F-logo. It’s a 1976 Jazzbass. Its a messed up a jazz.
These episode showed old card flip move tin thing. It was supposed to be lipstick red and it looked like tomato sauce red. Should as a woman.
Why did you shave down the neck??? Ouch...😵
