It's Worth it! Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 Unboxing and Review! | G85SB Curved Gaming Monitor 175 Hz
Today, we’re diving into the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8, a monitor I believe surpasses the Neo G8 in picture quality and value. Priced at $1,500 but currently available for $900, this review covers the unboxing, physical setup, and display specs without revealing too much.
In the unboxing, we explore the unique design elements and accessories that come with the monitor, followed by an easy setup process. The physical specs showcase a sleek build, ergonomic features, unconventional port options, and surprising speaker quality. As for the display, expect an immersive experience with a 34-inch, 3440x1440p Quantum dot OLED panel, while I touch on its gaming capabilities, picture quality, and productivity potential. Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 Unboxing and Review! | G85SB Series QD-OLED Ultra WQHD Curved Gaming Monitor
I love the versatility of this monitor. I just got it today and right out of the box, it's amazing. I have very low end Red Dragon speakers, so the sound on this monitor is a refreshing change from what I've been using.
Great to hear!
Great video! I just wondering what type of micro hdmi cable u use with the ps5? I’m going to connect the screen with an Xbox series x and want the best connection option!
Great review! Thanks alot
I love your video shooting style. Please, stick to it. Way fresher than almost any other video I’ve seen about this monitor, and still, all info needed is presented. Thumbs up
I need a longer cable after relocating my tower. What is the best cable to get the max 175hz?
Did you notice any issues with fringing on high contrast text and a lot aliasing/stair-stepping? I thought I had found the ideal monitor for me but was disappointed when looking at it in a tech store today. I don’t know if the demo video and settings were just doing it an injustice though. Thanks
What cable do you guys use to get the most from your ps5 on this screen
can you sideload apps onto the "tv" side of this monitor?
So does it include hdmi cable with the monitor? Or do we need to buy one separately for our ps5
I recently got this monitor and connected to ps5 and my reds look pink ? Any possible help
And they finally released the FW update on their website which fixes the wake up issue people face. I’m super stoked this monitor finally can be considered good.
That's great to hear!
do you have to go to their website and download it or can I do it through the monitor itself?
On this monitor is it possible to play the SuperGame... ❤RemnanT_2❤ in full screen...21:9🙄??
Could you do a best settings for ps5
The only thing that was stopping me was the mini hdmi but now that I know it comes with it. Im sold
It doesn’t?
@@YusufAlsakkaits coming in the box 👍🏻
Can you connect an xbox series x to it?
Been using it for a couple months paired with the 4090 and it's been great. All modern games support 21:9 so that's not a problem but some games don't support 21:9 cutscenes which is annoying.
On this monitor is it possible to play the SuperGame... ❤RemnanT_2❤ in full screen...21:9🙄??
Can I connect my Astro A50x?
I got a Mini display to hdmi for my PS5 but can’t get the monitor to see it! It’s an Anker cable too! How did you connect your ps5?
@brainbgood that won't work Hdmi display port leads only work one way. You need to use HDMI to HDMI. It's called none bi directional meaning ypu can plug into say a pc via display port and hdmi to the screen you can't go hdmi from ps5 to display port monitor. Again not bi directional so only works one way. So you need to use HDMI mini to HDMI standard. Plug standard end into your ps5 and ini hdmi into the monitor. Why did you use display port begin with Confused? Hdmi/display port leads only work in one direction
I love my Neo g8 🥰
Can you connect a wireless head set like AirPods or the Xbox wireless headset directly to the monitor?
yes yo8 can
how do you play at 120 fps? when I connect the micro hd cable to the ps5 or xbox series I can't play above 1080p at 120fps, if I try to increase the resolution to the maximum it reaches a maximum of 60hz. (the micro hd cable I use should support 2k up to 240hz. I read several comments under the video like mine to which you didn't give an answer, better not to advertise if you don't know what you're talking about.
So I haven't bought this monitor yet but I'm thinking about it ! Online it say this monitor can fun 4K at 120Hz is that not the case ? I have seen a fair few cable online that can support that too, unsure wether I should buy this monitor as I'm trying to get 120Hz
I have this but i cant find a micro hdmi for my ps5 which one do you have
Compra cable Micro hdmi a hdmi
One of the upsides is that its also a smart monitor with a remote and apps which gives it something beyond the normal ultrawide or monitor in general.
I’m assuming this would be better to buy it from Best Buy and get the geek squad warranty as it covers burn in in their warranty?
How do I hook a ps5 up to it
I love the monitor and would buy it immediately, if it wasn’t for mostly office work in my case. OLED still suffers from burn in, there is no solution for that yet. 😢 but I still love it
On this monitor is it possible to play the SuperGame... ❤RemnanT_2❤ in full screen...21:9🙄??
One of the best videos in the monitor! Do you know if there is a way to “crop” in when playing console games? Was able to get it for $750 with my gov discount. Super excited!
Gov discount? Where?
got it with student discount 711$
Would you recommend this for programming?
I'm a dev, and it's a bad idea to use an OLED for anything static for long hours.
Do not attach the base that way. You can Crack the screen
should i buy this monitor now or wait new 2024 monitor just announced at CES day ago ?
now this.monitor is really cheap for a amazing price sure there is better monitors but unless you have a PC to 5k is not really worth getting for the money and in my opinion this monitor is the best color/gamning monitor on the market
aren't they about to release the new version of this?
The G9, not the G8
@@Kona5.0 No actually a new G8, G9 and a completely new model G6 are all coming later this year. None of them are 34 inches though. The new G8 and G6 will have flat panels, while the G9 will be curved and UW.
G9 is way too big tbh@@jeremias1235ify
Do you worry about the burn in problems? Or other quality issues of this monitor. Not sure if i should buy this one for $678 or the lg 34GN850-B for $529.
There is no burn in on that monitor ever. You can go for it
Do you use HDR? Im on a 4080 with this monitor. Still not happy with hdr quality
Why not?
@@_ATHENODOROS_ some weird issues. With lighting.
Would you recommend this monitor for a PS5? And if so does it fully fit the screen of the more common console games?
The PS5 does not support ultrawide at all
@@LightsAcapellaPS5 supports 1440p. Therefore, yes it does support ultrawide.
@@BrianCrinkhad this monitor for a few months now and i don't really recommend it for ps5 as the images just stretches out to fit your screen or you can go 16:9 with black bars on the side but its amazing for pc
@@monchihalz I currently have an older model so I'm used to the stretched look I guess so I'm fine with that but I'm struggling to find anyone who uses this for PS5 that can confirm if you can get 120Hz with it or not through the micro HDMi cable
@@kaiszymonik9837 that depends on the game like most new games have 120fps but older games are just 60

Removing the wrap should be the last step, unless you are into salty fingers spots.
You're right lmao
it can do 120 fps on the ps5?
No
@@cgavfc1874 it can't ? says online it should be able too through the micro HDMI port provided you have a cable that allows it
@@kaiszymonik9837 You need to buy a usp dock
How are you able to get it at $900 ? I can only get it at $1000
9:30 Most if not all movies do come in 21:9 aspect ratio. This is not however the case for TV shows. 21:9 IS the standard aspect ratio for movies.
Maybe the best monitor outhere, the only thing concerning me is the burn-in issues, it's easy to get burn ins ?
Nope. It has cooling solution you dont need to be afraid bud.
I just got this with 20% off. Imo worth.
Some games not taking up the entire screen is absolutely insane to me. I would never 16by9 till every game I play supports and does not distort game
That's true. A lot of console games don't support ultrawide. But, in the end if you do find a great game it should look amazing on this monitor!
The Sims 2 supports ultra wide lol. I'm playing it now on this monitor. Why can the Sims 2 support ultra wide, but console games won't?
Consoles don’t support ultrawide.
What games don’t support 21;9 lmao ? Haven’t had a single game that djdnt support 21:9 unless you playing on a console lol

Samsung g3 24 inch better vs asus vg27VQ???
Hi! Sure, for gaming, the ASUS VG27VQ might offer a more immersive experience with its larger 27-inch screen, potentially higher refresh rates, and adaptive sync technology. The Samsung G3's smaller size could potentially provide slightly faster response times, but it might sacrifice some immersion. Consider whether you prioritize screen size and visual quality or prioritize faster response times when choosing between the two for gaming.
What monitor would you recommend for work (excel, gmail, multiple windows etc) and casual gaming with PS5? I know it’s prob better to have dedicated work monitor but have been trying to find a monitor with hdmi 2.1. Potentially buy a gaming PC in the future. Thxs!
Why would you take screen protector off before you've assembled it 🤦♂
my thinking aswell
lg 45 inch best monitor 240mhz
anyone has the same problem with this monitor that you need to do annoying updates like every 3-4 days to improve graphic performance?
Not a single word of the problems of this monitor. Gotta love the shills 😂
What problems does it have? You say that and not mention one problems 😂😂 tf
I got this for over 6 months now, video showed up and clicked out of curiosity. I can't recomend this monitor enough. Just make sure to consider the following: Burn in takes a lot longer than normally, however it will happen sooner or later. If you don't have enough money to a point where you will replace it in 2-3 years anyway (with something similar or better) do not buy this, you CANNOT go back, everything will look bad. The speakers are not enough for music, you can watch a youtube video or something like that but for anything else, just no, if you are thinking of relying on these speakers, don't do it-
Do you worry about the burn in problems? Or other quality issues of this monitor. Not sure if i should buy this one for $678 or the lg 34GN850-B for $529.
Really depends on what you want from a monitor, I see they are both gaming monitors, this once since it's OLEd the pixel response time is insane, you will see that fast motion is much more clear, for the exta 100$ I'd 100% go for the OLED, however just like a car will eventually break, OLED will eventually have burn in problems, this depending how you use it can take some years until you notice it. @@Bobgill31
@@Bobgill31 Don't mind the burn in, use it wisely and have fun enjoy the oled screen
This works with PS5?
yes in fact it does but you will need to do somethings in the ps5 settings to make it fully look good
The neo g8 is 240 hertz this is only 175
SMART Monitor since there's no tv turner not sure why its called smart tv.
What is rezhiushum😅😅😅 do you mean Resolution Just reading the manual bro 😅😅
all I need now is stacks of money
That's the dream :)
You get way more than 320 nits in HDR haha
PS5 doesnt support 21:9 aspect ratio so the image will be horribly stretched and not look proper, either that or you have black bars on each side and thus the center image will be burned in.
i had this problem to but just go into settings and then video go and ch

it's not worth it. Had this monitor 9 months and the fact that the sleep issue is still not resolved is a really not acceptable.
they fixed it in december!
What firmware are you on? I'm on latest and I don't have any issues waking from sleep on DP
I’m on the latest firmware 1603, mind you i had to manually install via usb from Samsung’s support website.
No way I can buy such a nice monitor to run everything in 1080p just to get ultrawide content.
