Don't knock it till you've tried it! I was once asked to do similar. It was well outside my trade dut I did know a bit of geometry. I took me an afternoon revising the maths and doing the job. I think you underestimate how much maths is involved in reducing the task to a simple piece of paper.

Just think about it, the video is showing a trick to measure a cut at 45 degrees but this comment is saying that this method only works for measuring the cut at 45 degrees. You see, that is a problem if you are working on a set of stairs that extends a longer distance which will require you to have the poles angled less which is a problem if the video's trick only works for one angle. You are right that you don't need any more or less of an angle of 45 degrees to do what this video is showing, but not all jobs will be like this video so there is a flaw to the trick shown in this video! But then again I haven't tried this kind of method to measure nor have I tried using at different angles so don't ask me if it works or not it is just about eleven at night and my brain is exhausted but still demands to write this stupid reply or else I will have a week of sleepless nights where I get tortured with a cycle of the cringiest memories my dumbfuck brain has to offer so fuck this video fuck this comment fuck this reply I'm going to bed

This is really clever. Using the geometry of the diameter of the pipe to make the fit saves soooo much time, and the way you did it is pretty foolproof if you can follow directions. I guess all of these people would rather break out the old trigonometry tables instead. Probably not much use with different diameter pipes though.

An even faster way is to use a drill or hole saw with the same diameter and run it through a jig that will keep it at the angle you want.

I have used this same technique to notch tubing. It is time consuming but it works. Sometimes you can find yourself in a remote place with nothing but a grinder and a welder to hand - oh, and ofcourse a pen, paper and scissors. I'm impressed by the artisans deft manipuation of paper, whilst wearing gloves. It's as though he never takes them off.

А можно взять пол пачки электродов обложить вокруг трубы, не сильно плотно стянуть проволокой(стяжками,резинками, может даже куском шпагата) выровнять по краю трубы. Приставить трубу на то место где она должна быть и продлить недостающую часть электродами. С другой стороны электродов сделать отметки и отрезать... думаю ,что не все сварщики (монтажники) носят с собой ножницы

Don't knock it till you've tried it! I was once asked to do similar. It was well outside my trade dut I did know a bit of geometry. I took me an afternoon revising the maths and doing the job. I think you underestimate how much maths is involved in reducing the task to a simple piece of paper.

Just think about it, the video is showing a trick to measure a cut at 45 degrees but this comment is saying that this method only works for measuring the cut at 45 degrees. You see, that is a problem if you are working on a set of stairs that extends a longer distance which will require you to have the poles angled less which is a problem if the video's trick only works for one angle. You are right that you don't need any more or less of an angle of 45 degrees to do what this video is showing, but not all jobs will be like this video so there is a flaw to the trick shown in this video! But then again I haven't tried this kind of method to measure nor have I tried using at different angles so don't ask me if it works or not it is just about eleven at night and my brain is exhausted but still demands to write this stupid reply or else I will have a week of sleepless nights where I get tortured with a cycle of the cringiest memories my dumbfuck brain has to offer so fuck this video fuck this comment fuck this reply I'm going to bed

@ppatricktt then I am a professional hack. After having a zip disc explode and the only thing that saved my fingers was the guard, they stay on my grinders. Not worth the risk. I am hourly so if it takes me a bit longer because the guard, oh well.

@@ivatolbas4622 нет, скорее всего мастер показал сам принцип методики разметки. Я просто обратил внимание на то что было бы более рационально сдвинуть разметку ради экономии трубы

Просто на целый радиус лишнего отрезал, можно торец не обрезать, а сместиться со всеми чертежами на длину радиуса к торцу и сэкономить не только длину трубы, но и время, и отрезной диск, и ресурс болгарки, и даже калории, которые могут пригодиться для хорошей работы мозга.

you could have slid your dimensions to the end of the pipe and saved material, you can also use a straight edge and a your jig to make your marks and completely skip using the paper.

Yes, that is how we do it. Expensive thin wall stainless steel to be TIG welded needs accuracy. We all carry a marker and measure stuff. Stupid ass mfers in comments all day long here is sad.

This is really clever. Using the geometry of the diameter of the pipe to make the fit saves soooo much time, and the way you did it is pretty foolproof if you can follow directions. I guess all of these people would rather break out the old trigonometry tables instead. Probably not much use with different diameter pipes though.

An even faster way is to use a drill or hole saw with the same diameter and run it through a jig that will keep it at the angle you want.
Perfect example of why most cannot perform this cut. Well done geometry man!

This is an excellent demonstration.
I have used this same technique to notch tubing. It is time consuming but it works. Sometimes you can find yourself in a remote place with nothing but a grinder and a welder to hand - oh, and ofcourse a pen, paper and scissors. I'm impressed by the artisans deft manipuation of paper, whilst wearing gloves. It's as though he never takes them off.

А можно взять пол пачки электродов обложить вокруг трубы, не сильно плотно стянуть проволокой(стяжками,резинками, может даже куском шпагата) выровнять по краю трубы. Приставить трубу на то место где она должна быть и продлить недостающую часть электродами. С другой стороны электродов сделать отметки и отрезать... думаю ,что не все сварщики (монтажники) носят с собой ножницы

This is one of those moves my old boss would say “You should know how to do this without asking” and I’ve only been workin with him and doing those kind of projects for a few months…
Been building rails for over 25 years. Never needed a piece of paper lol but this technique is cool. Everyone has their own way towards the end I suppose 😅
When math is not your strongest suit but you learn to appreciate how it amazingly put into work and see it’s greatest potential.
Could’ve just free hand cut that close and used grinder to shave it down to a perfect fit faster and cleaner, but fun geometry.
