  • So many of you might want to do a little research into what actually happened. The US didn't invade Somalia, the US didn't "go into Somalia". It was the SECOND phase of a UNITED NATIONS peace keeping mission the the UNITED NATIONS voted on and agreed to take part in. There were 40 nations involved in this peace keeping mission because what was already going on in Somalia was nothing more than genocide.. With tens of thousands of by some estimates well over100,000 civilians being killed by gunfire or starvation. Part of the US involvement was to stop Adid's malitia from killing aid workers and stealing food meamt for civilians to feed his troops. If you want to bitch about troops being in Somalia then take it up with the united nations who voted on the involvement including many of Somalia's neighbors who were having trouble supporting refugees fleeing Somalia. But hey I'm sure me using the actual facts wont change your options and just fire you up more.

    • Respect to him. One thing as an ex Royal Marine that always pisses me off is people who blame the military personnel because they disagree with the conflict. For example Most people can see now that Iraq 2 was wrong, instigated under false pretences, killed 1 million iraqis as well as US and UK personnel and cost the USA alone $2 trillion ($8000 per person) and created more terrorist activity. BUT none of this is the fault of the men and women who bravely put their lives on the line there. Not many things anger me as much as shitbag keyboard warrior's who, from the comfort of their mums basement insult personnel who served.

  • My Dad was a part of that force who went to rescue the US soldiers. He was a Major in Pakistan Army and pilot of Cobra gunship helicopter and giving air cover to QRF comprising of Pakistani and Malaysian Army who were trying to reach to the US positions. It was a tough battle. He sometimes tells us a stories what happened there that day. He once told us how he destroyed the jeep mounted anti tank weapon having 3 men 1 women and a small baby on it. They were using the women and children as a human shield. He remember that time when he was ordered to destroy that jeep and he refused. He told me that when I saw a baby you came in my mind because at that time I was just 2 years old. Somalis fired a round of RR on the Malaysian APC wounding 1 Pakistani Soldier and few Malaysian Soldiers. He remember then how he fired the TOW Missile while sitting on a Gunner seat. It was a difficult time of his life which he still remember. He told me how his hand was Shuddering. War is not easy. War is deadly. RIP to all the soldiers of every country who lost their lives in Somalia.

    • Well done and RESPECT to your father. The Pakistanis played a pivotal role in extracting the Americans from the cauldron. Had it not been for the Pakistani forces, the American losses would have been even higher. It was a great shame that the role played by the Pakistan military was mostly 'airbrushed' out of the film. I read the book, 'BHD,' years ago, so I was aware that Gen Garrison had to go cap in hand and request assistance from the Pakistani force commander. By assisting the American's, the Pakistanis compromised their UN neutrality. All credit to them for helping the beleaguered American's out of that hellish scenario. RESPECT from Britain.

So we will leave and those men died 4 nothing and they didn't thank the un troops for getting them out, even in the book it mentions they got them out though it's from the perspective of the American soldiers so of course they were pissed why it was taking so long but those un troops deserved an actual part in the movie besides giving water which was correct how they gave it, but they also fought and should be thanked
