I never could figure out what the benefits are to dropping the bar at the end. The benefits barbells vs machines is that every little movement handling / controlling the bar and the weights is that all of it contributes to strength. Even just loading a bar means picking up plates up to 45 lbs before you even do the lift !!! And after doing the lift - controlling that bar all the way to the floor enhances your back, hamstrings, arms & grip. Dropping that bar from hip high misses all that extra effort when your working out and trying to gain strength. Dropping it might be ok in a competition where you’re trying to conserve your strength but it’s counter productive when working out -- unless you’re aiming for everyone in the gym to watch you work out
