  • This is a great idea, but it would have been better if the repairer had applied low-melt solder to the pins carefully using a standard iron BEFORE using the copper wire tool. It would have been much faster to remove the IC.

  • Great video I wonder if you are using the "Quick Chip" or "fast Chip" special low temperature alloy for removing IC'S ? Also I have worked with a wave soldering machine and found that most parts have a 10 second survival soldering time for that type of soldering . Bob

  • The application could be improved significantly, but the idea is sound. Thanks. I wouldn't start practicing on big chips in tight spaces where you would possibly be reusing those ICs. And yeah, I think the wire should have been pretinned. It's going to get tinned one way or another and the time to tin the wire is not while you're trying to desolder 100 pins in a tight space. Heat transfer is way better with tinned and fluxed wire. A hot air gun is no guarantee that you're not going to "cook" a chip, and it is no guarantee that you're not going to move close components. Technique with the right temperature can beat any tool.

  • Really BAD procedure to remove SMD Ic's, not recommended. You can do that much faster and safer using ChipQuik SMD1without boiling print and nearby components. At minute 7:17 watch the adjacent two smd capacitors being moved out of the print due to the extreme heat.

    • What's even worse than the two capacitors is how he pushes a resistor on the bottom left side of the IC so that it connects to another capacitor rather than it's intended position... This is a horrible technique.
