In this video we turn a 55 gallon food grade barrel into an awesome smoker. We completed this build in one day and managed to cook on it as well. This build was a lot of fun and tested our speed when it comes to diy projects. Hope you enjoy and remember to GET OUT AND BUILD!!

  • Great video. Just a warning to anyone who wants to do this. Please make sure you fully clean out the drum before cutting into it. I knew a man and his son that were killed instantly when they went to cut into one. Flammable fumes were still in the barrel and when they cut into it, it exploded. Wash it thoroughly with soap and water and let it completely air dry and leave the fill cap off before cutting.

  • Good job. I’ve made a couple of UDS’, if you added some air intake to the bottom it’ll run better. I drilled three 1” holes two inches from the bottom and welded a sliding “door” (flat bar) at the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock positions. Unless the door is your air intake.

  • Make a smoke box from an old steel ammo can. Lie the can on it’s side. Drill a few 6-8mm holes in a row 2cm up from the ‘new’ top and bottom. Put a few easy light briquettes inside and light them, then shut the lid once they get going. Sprinkle some wood chips of your choice on the top and it will generate plenty of smoke.

  • I love how it comes full circle for me, I am Indonesian and looking for a DIY drum smoker video. Found a few Indonesian videos but I don't quite trust anything Indonesian. So I went to look for an English video (because higher quality standards for product, video, audio, and materials). Little did I know until 10mins in that the drum is Indonesian of origin. But hey, at least it's food grade! The Indonesian ones are literally made from rusted petrol drums. Yum, extra carcinogens.

  • Hey fellas, GREAT TUTORIAL. I'm wondering about your welding cart there...looks like u used some corner steel and 4 casters. Got a plan or video for that? Even as a general shop item, that's super useful. Love how you got the vice screwed into it as well. I can weld but it's been awhile (since High School) but I can remember the basics. I have access to an arc welder and disc cutter too.
