At the end of the video you'll see her pause and appear to stare at me for several seconds, then quickly depart. It turned out she'd spotted a couple of high visibility vests in the woods walking around, probably power or cable company employees. She stays clear of them. No sense getting talked into any of those services, she's off-grid.

Black bears tend to shy away from conflict and confrontation. Bears are actually considered to be intelligent. I'm glad you are getting to see Patrick's well-behaved crew.
Excellent! Me too! I would have been nervous if Luca was looking at me like that, but Patrick stayed calm (as usual) and everything was fine. I think you put it perfectly: “coexist and respect their boundaries”. Simone and Milo actually touched Patrick a few times, but Patrick knew them both very well (and vice-versa) and Patrick gently let them know that they were too close, and Simone understood. Milo was just a cub, so it took him longer.

Patrick, I'm so grateful to you for 'standing your ground' when beautiful Luca stood and stared at you for so long. What a gift that was! She's become so meaningful as the last residual piece of our beloved Simone that we have. I think Simone & crew were relocated and so Luca is our last connection to her. Somehow, she seems to understand this. She's so magnificent and so loyal that I would love us all to pray for her well-being. I'm not usually religious but I feel we need to ask for her protection.

It is an amaizing sight to see how Simone's small cub has grown into a gorgeous creature.
She was definitely assessing your reaction to something, probably the people in the woods. What a long stare, followed by a blink! Your calm seemed to reassure her, because blinking seems to be a type of dialog among animals like dogs, cats, (bears?) that communicates "OK". She has neither fear of nor aggression towards you, maybe seems to take a cue from you as to how to react? I like your pumpkin and corn display!

He's on the porch, and on at least one occasion, in his front yard. So far as I've seen over a couple years of videos, no aggression. The several bears who visit him (including mothers who bring along their cubs) seem to respect him. @@k-pop-korn6825
