I attended the Tulane-Notre Dame game at old Tulane Stadium in October 1969. I was in graduate school at Tulane at the time. Notre Dame football had always been a sentimental favorite in my family, even though none of us had attended the university. I decided to watch the game from the visitor's side because ... well, I figured it might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'll soon be 75, and it's turned out that I was right about that. I sat behind Ara Parseghian, down at the field on the second row. Seats were available in the bleachers because not many Notre Dame students had made the trip from South Bend. So it turned out to be a night to remember, and I was glad that Notre Dame won. But of course the outcome of the game wasn't important to me. It was seeing Notre Dame and Ara Parseghian.

My roommate and friend was in the Notre Dame band when I was a sophomore and pre-med at the time. I lived in Zahm Hall and majored in physics. After graduation, I did not see him for 12 years. Then by surprise I saw him in the Las Vegas Airport by astronomical chance - lol. I had a flight to LAX delayed and got on a 2nd one that was routed to Vegas. It was bizarre. When you graduate from ND don't be surprised if you see a ND band member somewhere on the other side of the country over a decade later. He is now an MD like his parents, brother, and sister.

Here’s twist for you. I am a die hard fan of Mississippi State University; Maroon to my core, but Notre Dame has always had a special place in my heart as the true spirit of college sports, obviously football being first and foremost. I have visited your campus once in 1982 with my friend from Wisconsin who went to Notre Dame. Got to see the stadium while it was empty during that late December. What a beautiful campus! State and ND have had some great baseball games over the years including last year’s Super Regional in Starkville. It was a great series and we went on to win the Natty in Omaha, but your fans were well received in the Taj Mahal of college baseball, Dudy Noble Field. Fans and players were fed well at the Dude! Those of you who were there will hopefully remember and comeback to see us! Now you have done all of college baseball a favor by beating Tennessee. I hung on every pitch and will be pulling for you in the CWS! Let’s Go Irish! My love and support to your great University and its magnificent tradition! Btw, the Notre Dame fight song is the greatest of them all. The second is “Hail State!”

If you take yourself along to an ANZAC Day march you will find numerous bands representing various high schools and community. Like England we also used to have many bands from businesses and Unions. Sydney GPS also have great bands. Military and Services bands are also high standards. Band member numbers might not be the Cecil B DeMille productions we see with US Colleges but there is a long established culture.

@@wishihadavette_2517 I’ve seen em up close after someone snatched a pair during halftime, aint no one jealous of that Party City check out aisle shit 😂
This is awesome. Networks however, choose to not show the great bands of our universities but rather go back to a studio and promote other games to keep their ratings up.Sad.
That's because they are anti-American, makes me sick. These kids, young adults worked hard. This is what makes American great and it will come back
Robert Carter some of these prevalent showed are pretty awesome The you people must put an awful lot of time and dedication into practice In an era when the youth are vilified for laziness They are amazing
@@kingkanoworldmedia4389 The politicians in your country will never allow it to become great. You and your country suck Politicians have ruined people, education, kids, people, and your whole crap economy.
That's part of the decline of football in general.
Woah chill dude. They did work hardd!
I've experienced this in South Bend it is unbelievable sooo good. Its definitely gets the crowd going👍
If this was the pregame, I can't wait for half time! This pre-game show was more spectacular and more complicated than any half time show I marched in with my college band. I can't imagine the planning and practice that went into this - just the pregame show! Amazing... blows my college marching band to bits.
I believe this has always been the same pregame, almost unchanged for a really long time
The Notre Dame band is the best band in the world. They are sophisticated, professional, and majestic. It is so obvious that they are rigorously trained and well disciplined. They bring chills to the body with their performances. The fighting Irish are well represented with this tremendous group of individuals. J
I had a friend from high school that played trombone in the Band of the Fighting Irish
truly this is a beautiful sight these eyes have ever seen. Go Irish
Notre Dame band is truly on fire
Love this arrangement of our National Anthem!
what a wonderful band and show, would love to see it live one day...wonderful presentation.
ND has always had a wonderful pregame tribute to the USA.
Haven’t been to a home game in 3 years... ND football is a 3 generation family tradition. The band taking the field is something that will always give me chills in excitement and a reminder of why I love ND football. Before coach Kelly they didn’t play music in the stadium. The band carried the tune of the game being played. Go ☘️
That echo from the announcer sounds so epic!
Outstanding job.. one of many reasons college football has always been and will always be better than nfl football
This is just flat out amazing. I could watch it again and again. It must be an awesome experience to be part of it.
You should try watching the Texas AM band.
You should watch the University of Tennessee Pride of the Southland!!
Much Love for the band. Exciting Video.
Man do I miss home games in this stadium... hope this young group of recruits can make it happen this year. People need normalcy and college football will bring this back!
One of my wife’s doctors was a ND grad I asked what’s his favorite memory he said The Golden Dome in his rear view mirror
Really inspirational ... LOVE these marching bands ....
10:45 this has always been my favorite part having seen and herd it live alot years ago
OK I'm a Penn Stater and gotta admit, Notre Dame has a kick ass band! Look and sound great!
My only wish next year is to see this amazing band perform at half time during one of their football competitions and I will be so grateful since my daughter will graduate in 2021 at U of Notre Dame❤️ Husband, are you reading my comment? Hint hint Lol
Tess Brown : I hope he read this!!! Good luck in your future.
As incredible as the game itself. coordination choreography and all
So, they're incredible.
Wow! Fantastic! 🥁 🎺 🎷 💂🏽♂️
Amazing show, I have never see something like this, this exites not in little Belgium, really beautiful.
As a Notre Dame usher, since my first time on the job in 2002, the National Anthem is still my most favorite of all. (That said, no one to this day holds a candle to Jim Cornelison of the Blackhawks)
The granddaddy of all fight songs! Go irish!
Finally, I will have a chance to see the Notre Dame MB in San Diego! The first college band in America🍀🍀 The U of ND Fighting Irish vs the Navy❤️My daughter attends U of ND, and I'm a Navy brat, so I will just have a good time🍀🇺🇸
THANK YOU for your service. 🙏
Magnificent Spectacle !
This is on my bucket list is to visit Notre Dame Stadium
wow what a show!!! awesome work!
Love Thee Notre Dame!!!!!!!
Go Irish!! Beautiful band, wonderful music.. that is all you need..
What a GREAT, OUTSTANDING BAND!!!!!
Amen...May it wave forever.
Beautiful. Go Irish!
This is insane! Love it 💪🏼👊🏼🇳🇱
THAT IS AN EPIC ENTRANCE!!!!
From a Bama fan, that is pretty impressive. Interesting studder step as you reach each yard line.
these fools think the studder step is marching out of line....mainly osu degenerates pointing this out....part of the program
One of my favorite aspects of the Fanfare, performed during "Hike Notre Dame". I call it the Irish shuffle.
First University Marching Band in the Nation if memory serves.
The University of Illinois had the first band assembled I think, but it wasn't a sports band
The Notre Dame marching band, officially known as the Band of the Fighting Irish, is the oldest such aggregation in existence. Founded in 1845, it is 161 years old. The band has been present at every home football game - all 385 of them - in school history.
Beautiful 🤩 💖💖💖‼️‼️‼️‼️
Soy de mexico y admito que esto es hermoso
What I'm talkin' about! That fight song ... gets you every time. Great pregame.
Breathtaking!
How can one not love Our Lady's school?
Ah, yes: the Cult of Mary.
@@starguy2718 Fervent respect does not create a cult.
That’s great how everyone in the crowd is singing the national anthem
My Cousin is in Noter Dame. My dad, Uncle Bob, Uncle Tom and that is because they are the South Bend Bros. My Family loves going to Noter Dame for Football because we went there when I was a baby and I fell in love with the Band
As an Australian I really regret that this sort of culture never developed here. Mind you after watching several of these the guys doing the announcing spoil it by not shutting up.
No sh t!!! On the noise!!!!SHHHHH T UP
Debbie Miles In ireland that culture never developed either. We have the Artane band that leads teams out on all ireland final day and other bands who perform at rugby and soccer internationals.Nothing on this scale or intricacy.
Debbie, not sure how old you are but we Aussies certainly did have a culture of marching bands and still do.
Outstanding display fair play too all those young people hoo rah semper fi
Not normally into American marching bands but this is class
What a great band!
Very impressive !!!!!!!!!! Very talented people.
This is my unuversity's football game song. I studied at Notre dame for 2 yeqr to get master's degree. Tony Tu
It's so awesome when a marching band is just impressive
Love Notre Dame, despite it’s left leaning academia. But what a lovely campus I visited in 2015.The hockey arena ,an architectural jewel box,was my favorite structure after the basilica. Such an idyllic classic college campus. But actually love all the a great classic football programs and bands..Ohio State,Michigan,Texas, Alabama, even USC...although not my favorite team ever...lol.
Name me a University that doesn't lean left now days.. It's a sad world
@@tbuff91 aye no h8 but if y’all think anything left of Liberty U is liberal, that says more about u than it does about schools like ND lol
What is "left leaning academia?"
I’m no Notre Dame fan, this marching band is damn inspiring.
Am I the only one that loves the drum majors run into the field
Vibe _Clouds I also love marching bands
Look forward to seeing you soon. Go Irish !!
*J'aime bien...*
God bless the United States. Beautiful.
should be on everyone's bucket list. Go Irish!!!
Greatest band in the land!
Man this is so great
Their march has now been adopted as a theme song for an AFL club. I have played it as such.
Thanks for posting.
This BUCKEYE was amazed. What a fantastic pregame show. Fight Fight Fight YOU IRISH of Notre Dame.......
This is easily the best collegiate fight song ever written! Coming from a student whose original school used this rallying cry!
That is the biggest band I've ever seen!
This beautiful
Wonderful
So brilliantly over the top American
Best fight song hands down
Damn, KZhead really really wanted me to watch this
I grew up in ND country, married a sailor from New Mexico who was a devout Longhorn fan and hates Notre Dame.
Notre-Dame is France which means "our (beloverd) lady" which used by a lot names of France Catholic churches and refers to the Holy Virgin Mary.
Miss seeing the band.
Greatest pregame performance in College
