My suspicion is that, as with Boris, the outgoing person doesn’t want to bring in a competent person that would make them look bad. So they bring in someone they know will fail, Liz Truss and Humza. Admittedly Humza couldn’t have done much worse, starting life with a racist rant wasn’t the best idea. Admitting the greens into government was another huge mistake. His premiership has been a slow motion car crash.

The guy was never fit for purpose, never was a Scottish M P, never had it in him to perform in that role, yet Sturgeon and her ex hero Salmond wanted a brown face to push al9ng regardless of capabilities, from day one he had no clue, yet they gave him major portfolios one after another. Why did Sturgeon keep him as a minister, I was told only last week that someone encouraged Sturgeon and husband to keep him on and again push him into her job as F M when she ran away. Better to have one in the job to help hide things than another face that might expose Sturgeon, open up the books. What was this incentive from this third party cash ?, nothing was made firm. Does Mr Useless have family who can give good money?.

The other piece of the game is the presiding officer is a green and doesn't *have* to vote for the status quo if they get the deciding vote. It's just tradition to do so. They could pull a brilliant historical move and vote against him.
