At least the talent show kid didn’t ruin the X-Men

i love how she momentarily stops thinking to get her shit together then continues as if she wasn't nervous at all
that's cause she was acting nervous all along, just to prove she deserved it for being a great actress

They don't give out pity-Oscars to kids. Everyone in that room would gladly have stomped on her to get that statuette. She earned it.
Hell yeah, she did. Everyone arguing against it on here has clearly never watched The Piano.
imasharky didn't seem like very stiff competition. "The Piano" seems to be the only timeless classic in the lineup.
So that is why you are watching Oscar acceptance speeches on KZhead. Makes sense.
thats why most of them are use as door stops

Holly Hunter's reaction to Anna winning is INCREDIBLE.
Alistair Drennan yes it`s like Queen Latifah´s reaction when Catherine Zeta Jones won for Chicago. :)
Hi Everyone wow she was nominated for 2 movies for the same year going against her supporting actress from the movie she won best actress for..is that right lol

Aaaahhhhhh Leonardo di Caprio
Finally, he has his Oscar. He should have 10 Oscars...
Loved how she get her shit together for the acceptence speech.
Right. Like an old pro.
11 years old. Phenomenal.
GrV Kar Lool so true
GrV Kar hahaha so adorable
This is so adorable, but I honestly thought she might pass out the way she was hyperventilating.
First pause Audience : hahah Second pause Audience: err... is she ok
Frances Mcdormand used hyperventilating word when she won the Oscar 2018
In an interview a few years ago she said it was the most terrifying moment of her life.
Give her a break she was a kid back then
Glad it went alright though. It was probably scary that there were so many people in the audience. 🙂
One of the rare non-fake moments of any Oscar nights.

Indeed! I love her.
Especially considering that she didn't know she was about to win an Oscar herself only a few minutes later.
SOOKIE IS YOU?
12 years old
Classy reaction by Emma Thompson, too.
In Anna Paquin's mind, HOLY FUCK! OH MY GOD, WHAT DO I SAY?!
Pretty much true, yes. You can tell that Anna did NOT expect to win.
RafaelFernandeSantos Or that too, since it took her 21 seconds to start speaking, because she kept giggling and hyperventilating.
RafaelFernandeSantos I think it was both shock and social anxiety. Because she said later on that she was really nervous having that many people looking at her at once.
+redmr2na HAHAHAHAHA made my day!
+C.J. O'Dell Yes, that sounds like the most likely explanation. You can see it in her big wide eyes. You can't blame the audience for laughing at her gulps. But they were all on her side which must have taken the edge off since she finally got around to her very professional thank-you's. One of the great Oscar moments.
All of you who said it was akward.. you have no idea how it would feel to stand in front of the super stars and the world where you are the focus of hollywood having to say something.. that girl did great
And also she's a kid like of course that be awkward standing in front of million people

I love wins like this. Out of the blue. Total surprise. And quite honestly, really deserved.
+Mikey Trahant Damn right. Those were all great nominees, but still, damn right.
How was it "deserved" when it was "out of the blue?" She should not have won. The other actresses had experience.
@@IWantToMature85 What a stupid comment. You must be stupid. This award is for the performance. Not how many films the actors are in. Just plain stupid. I'm wondering if this is a "joke"? No thought put into it at all. But I guess there really are people out there that are really this STUPID.
She is such an amazing natural talent!
@@IWantToMature85 the awards go to their performance in the movie though not their experience, i mean we have the honorary oscars for that.
Aw she was not expecting to win at all bless her
The best oscar reaction ever - can only see it through a child!
And when she gets to the podium, she just stands there, with her left hand fidgeting around and her right hand clutching her Oscar, hyperventilating and giggling for 21 seconds. I also love the fact that Holly and Emma are so genuinely happy to see Anna win.
C.J. O'Dell LOL I know it was so adorable! XD
I love her face when she won that was too cute
+Rochell Barbara Mine too! She's sooo adorable
I always love Holy Hunters reaction: She is glad like a mother, even if she had lost. OK, she would win later on but she didnt know that...
+Pandelis Mitsis Everyone, including Hunter herself, knew that knew she had Best Actress locked down that year.
I don't necessarily agree, but I like the way you are thinking.
+Ryan Meyers That's right. She was very heavily favored to win best actress. So her delight for her costar Anna was certainly sincere.
Pandelis Mitsis Holly's oscar was a shoo in. She had won everything else up to this point, so why not the Oscar?
Even if she was disappointed that she lost (which, judging from her reaction, she wasn’t), she win Best Actress a few minutes later.
it took her 5 secs to get over being nervous! amazing
Kevin Palacios More like 30
Anna Paquin has great acting in The Piano. She became the second-youngest Academy Award winner in Oscar history.
Who is the first?
+Sofia S Tatum O'Neal is the first.
+Sofia S Tatum O'Neal was about a year younger than Anna when she won in this category for Paper Moon (1973)
It's a little bit unfair since Tatum O Neil was actually a lead role in Paper Moon while Anna was an actual supporting role in The Piano
+davy209 he said "Academy Award Winner" so that implies to all categories dude
She had more lines here than she did in "The Irishman"!
Badamtss
Lol
Y’all funny!!!!
Yeah That's right 😃😃
She had lines in the Irishman?!
Wow to think she won over all these legends literally every single person in this category are all star performers it's crazy. She accomplished more at 10 or 11 than most actors do in decades
I'm so glad it wasn't a political situation that year and that the Academy didn't overlook Paquin because of her age. Her performance in 'The Piano' was out of this world. So raw and passionate and intense in scenes. She really captured the true essence of a child jealous of her Mother's relationships and daring to test the boundaries. Definitely well deserved and my favourite performance ever given by a child in cinema.
I agree 100%! It was something very special.
Both her and Holly deserved their Oscars that year.
Holly Hunter's reaction was so awesome! She was so happy for Anna even though she was nominated too.
Holly Hunter won too, for best actress :)
@@marthalewis475 for the same movie
She didn't care because she knew she was shoe-in for Best Actress for the same movie.
its because with Anna's win, she is sure she would get the Best Actress Oscar since Emma Thompson is Nominated also in lead and she won a year before that..
Holly won Best Actress that year for The Piano.
And look at that, Lex Luthor gives an Oscar to Rogue
It couldve been Lex giving it to Senator Finch

She's Canadian, but was raised in New Zealand, hence why she had a Kiwi accent here.
Yea she is great :)
@@Gameflyer001 yeah...I thought she's French Canadian
It's so surreal seeing a child walk up to accept an Oscar. She's so adorable; I love how out of breath she is. She honestly deserved it; one of the greatest child performances in cinema history as far as I'm concerned.
Anna Paquin didnt expect to win.. and for an 11year old.. This was genuine and suprisingly together. she didnt have any speech but thanked the people who helped her.
I always thought it was crazy that Anna Paquin and Halle Berry both had Oscars for AMAZING performances in their respective films but both of their roles in the Xmen franchise were mediocre.
Paquin did great with what she had. Berry not so much.
Not true. Mediocre is way too harsh. Although the characterization of Rogue was pretty naff considering she's one of the strongest mutant beings in comics. They got Anna to play her like a wet blanket.
alot of people find it amazing nicholas cage has an oscar
@@iste7057 But a deserved Oscar
Halle Berry is actually a terrible actor tho
And they have never given any child an Oscar again.
Her reaction is priceless. Excellent job. She deserved the Oscar!
Her face is just brilliant!
I just got done watching The Piano, she definitely deserved it. I have seen The Firm and Fearless and Age of Innocence, all of those were strong performances as well but Paquin turns in a Perfect performance in Piano. Like I honestly don't know what more the director could have gotten out of her, she is 100% convincing and natural in every scene.
LOVED Holly and Emma's reactions when Anna's name is announced! Class acts, they both are.
One of the most deserving Oscar wins in history. She was brilliant in The Piano.
Go ahead Sookie. You deserved it.
She was so adorable here and I love her old New Zealand accent.
I bought The Piano on DVD on Saturday. Anna gave one of the greatest child performances of the 20th century, in my opinion.
She was so young but her acting was the most powerful I´ve ever seen in an actress at that age. so far beyong her age
Imagine being 11 and getting an Oscar for your first piece of acting ever... Damn.
Shows how BS it was. She won out of pity. Being an Oscar is a whole different level. No one gets that for their first film.
@@IWantToMature85 Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls), Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins ), Lupita Nyong'o (12 years a slave) the three of them got their oscar for their first films.
@@IWantToMature85 She won out of pity? Where's that information??? Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls), Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins), Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years A Slave), Barbara Streisand (Funny Girl), Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People), Tatum O'Neal (Paper Moon), Harold Russell (The Best Year of Our Lives), Shirley Booth (Come Back, Little Sheba), and Paquin herself (The Piano), they all won Oscars for their first film. Win an Oscar because of the performance, not because of how many films the actors have done
This has to be the most honest reaction in the history of the awards ... Especially in this category
Holly Hunter's reaction has to be the best ever in Oscar history lol
She was so shocked. I thought for a moment she wasn't going to say anything, or that she was going to hyperventilate. So cute. Too bad I'm not really a fan. Although X-Men rocked.
She was actually amazing in the film... what a proud moment for New Zealand and Anna!
That was genuine shock in her face. Bless her. She will be always be Rogue and Sookie Stackhouse to me.
She's just like "wtf do I do" lmao
Her emotions are so real, so pure beautiful!..
I'Ve just seen The piano...and all i can say is...we need more children with performances like that.
1997residente tell that to the jenner sisters they are should win the oscars for the best drama queen
You can totally see her mind go blank from just being overwhelmed from the fact she just won an oscar. Probably one of my favorite Oscar moments.
This made me tear up. So adorable.
Wow, that's really awesome. She's overwhelmed and talking a moment to digest her achievement!
my god...imagine winning at 11! and how composed she gets to thank the key people. one of my fave wins ever
There have been surprises before in the acting categories, but very few of this magnitude. *No one* in 1994 predicted Anna Paquin would win this. And it's very close to being the best performance that ever won this award.
I remember watching this on the BBC in the middle of the night back in London in 1994... Even i nearly screamed when anna paquin won for the piano... I thought what's she going to say.. Lol
This was so cute, even though I was her age I remember thinking she was adorable. I still watch this when I need to giggle and get teary-eyed with joy.
I don't understand why people would comment about her "downhill" moment from here, if you want to watch her brilliance on screen, I'd recommend Kenneth Lonergan's Margaret (2011). She was PHENOMENAL in it. And she deserved this.
Bintang Lestada She was also amazing in The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler. :)
+mipatriaadorada ohhh yes, she was amazing :)
+Bintang Lestada Right on the nose, Bintang. That performance in Margaret was one of the most amazing of this still young century. It was an impossible part and Anna brought an internal logic to it few actresses could have pulled off. I don't understand why the film was not more successful. But bless you for bringing it up.
I think the reason why was the drawn out post production troubles. If the director had just been allowed to release his cut instead of trimming it down it might have been more successful
Anna Paquin is now older than Holly Hunter was when the movie was released. Holly Hunter was 35 years old and Anna Paquin is now 37
I'm proud of her!! watched this like a hundred times! The piano was so amazing
Wow, considering Gene Hackman's opening remarks, I'm sure those four women were completely fine with losing to 11 year old Anna Paquin! Those were such amazing reactions all around!!!
I cried then and I cry now. It was the best acceptance I’ve ever seen and the only one to move me to tears. Truly a beautiful moment
Oh my goodness she was SO surprised. Such a well deserved award
It's hard for adults to process that moment so I can't even imagine lol
I love her forever. She really stole my heart as Sookie Stackhouse. Well deserved. A fantastic and disciplined actress.
It's such an honor to be given your Oscar by such a great actor as Gene Hackman!
I love that collective high-pitched gasp from the audience. No comparable sound in Oscar history.
So adorable
I get goosebumps when the theme starts soaring out! Man, do I love this classic.
The most genuine, real & honest suprise of any award winner...ever.
Anna Paquin born 24 July 1982 is a Canadian-born New Zealand actress. She made her acting debut in the film The Piano (1993) for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 11, making her the second-youngest winner in Oscar history. On July 24, 2022. She celebrated her 40th birthday.
That New Zealand accent tho lol
Definitely one of my favorite part in the oscar history ! Her reaction is amazing .
I just watched this on Netflix. Why did it take me so long? Jeeze I'm 74... It was fantastic. So many great actors..Anna was one of them.
The video cuts off right before one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. Ana Paquin returned to her seat by walking down the steps at front of the stage...the way she came up...as the adults were trying to get her to go backstage. Very refreshing.
Winnipeg, represent .... yeah! One of the greatest moments in Academy Awards history.
I'm from Winnipeg! Go Anne
She grew up in New Zealand
God how I love this win! Here was the child who really deserved to be the youngest Oscar winner ever instead of Tatum O'Neal for that so-so performance in Paper Moon, who was only a year younger and who was nominated in the wrong category anyway. But Anna was sublime. I remember when I first saw The Piano, I thought wouldn't it be nice to see this kid get an Oscar for this. She had the instincts of a seasoned professional. And everybody in that room fell in love with her wordless hyperventilation and petrified stare. Not to mention the cute hat. Beyond adorable. Way to go, Academy.
👍👍👍👍
Since then, she's grown into a very lovely and talented actress who's still going strong.
The only honest reaction to an oscar ive seen so far really..no hypocrisy hugging or overcries..just legit surprise and pure emotion after her name was pronounced
This is my favorite oscar moment, Anna is so cute, and everyone seems genuinely happy that she won,
i love how happy everyone is for her🥺
I forgot about this Oscar win for Anna. Amazing win and heart stopping reaction.
I think someone like Holly Hunter should have joined her on stage so she wouldn't be so nervous, but clearly she overcame it quickly and did quite well.
I love 'Winona Ryder' in THE AGE OF INNOCENCE but 'Anna Paquin' in THE PIANO is, doubtlessly, the best! Well done, Anna!
best reaction ever and much deserved, she was amazing in this film
A really big moment for Anna! The only type of reaction this moment gives me, is happiness for her achievement as well as admiration for her as an actress and as a human! And Holly Hunter was so sweet to her during the announcement🥺❤️
Back when it really was a tough competition, all these ladies did phenomenal.
The Piano was her first ever acting role and she got a Oscar after that......damn this girl is truly amazing!
Her mother is a teacher at the school I used to go to. I think she's done an amazing job at making sure her daughter didn't become a messed-up child star.
