The Magikarp is mooning partly because it's insanely hard to gem, the print quality of PE as a whole is offensively bad.
Got a few of the big sword & shield singles after coming back into collecting with 151. Wild to see how fast they are increasing in value but we’ll see how everything plays out with the market manipulation
Awesome video Colin! I’ve been lurking in the background but I absolutely love the detail you provide. I do wonder with this spike if it’s a bit of a dangerous time to buy singles, with any rise in a market at this level of consistency you have to expect some sort of crash. There are cards from way older sets that aren’t seeing these spikes. Just a little dubious and actually wonder if this could be a play in trying to invest in some older cards that could drop in price with the SWSH cards dominating the market. Anyway rant over and keep up the amazing work!

FYI . Blaziken isn’t ctr driven. I called this weeks ago. Just as I bought mine for like $170, there was 5, yes 5 total copies for sale on TCG and there was atleast 1-2 sales a day!!! And I say 5, not all NM or fairly priced at the time, but supply was just clearly not matching demand of the card!! 1-2 sales a day and only 5 total copies listed on TCG? It was out of stock like 2 days after I bought and started rising!! People just like the chase cards and it’s obviously hard to pull but the numbers were off 4-6 weeks ago when I bought!

I’m so glad i bought all these cards graded when they were low. A lot of these i got in a graded 10 for what they go for raw now lol. The giratina i bought from an LGS for $200 and sent it in the grade with PSA and it came back a 10
It’s crazy to see the growth but crazier to see the year price for these cards. I also wanted to add Dragon Ball Z cards also exceeded the thousand dollar mark for raw cars. It’s crazy to see a RAW card over $1000. That’s not a Charizard or something from vintage.
I could have bought that machamp in a psa 10 for $160 at a card show 2 weeks ago missed big gains
I feel like it’s going to get people to start opening their sealed collections. Which will then get people buying more sealed.

What’s your opinion on the espeon max alt Japanese promo that comes in the Japanese eeveelutions box? I have one sealed still in the cellophane and I hope it goes up too.

Great content Colin! I think some manipulation is happening with some SV cards. However! I think the hype for SWSH is so legit. It’s the best series hands down, most beautiful bangers of cards. The window is closing so fast on pulling these from packs in the wild. I am just one person in this hobby and I have now been panicking to buy some of these top alt arts such as Ray Vmax and Gengar Vmax that I am now willing to pay over market for them! So glad I pulled Umbreon Vmax 2X out of regular etbs. 🎉

What's crazy about the gains if you look, they're already starting to taper off. I really think somw of it was natural progression IE Moonbreon but a good chunk of it was/is buyout and FOMO. It's a self fulfilling prophecy at that point. Morty for example was over 100 and has already come back down to 80. I think when looking at the graphs a near 90° spike in a short time period usually is a good indicator of something fishy but if it's a slow and steady climb like moonbreon I have an easier time believing it's actual market increases.

Leafeon vmax is amazing ! If I’m correct it’s the hardest one to pull based on pull rates
ever since CNBC said collectibles is a serious alternative-asset class all collectible markets been booming as people exit stocks and bonds as that market corrects, and seek shelter in physical goods such as gold and pokemon cards & sealed. People taking all those crypto gains and coming into Pokemon now too I believe.
Where would you recommend selling cards? I can easily take them to a LCS but I take a pretty big hit unless I do store credit. Is using TCG or ebay the best other options?

does anyone think CTR might have kicked off the karp growth? He had a stream chasing the card and then i feel like around that time karp started increasing in price. Idk but i know if that was the case he didnt mean to just trying to get a card he hasnt pulled

Pokemon stories are great. Back to back gengar and espeon is wild. My best story is i never opened brilliant stars and i randomly bought 2 etb's at like $30 and pulled the charizard V. Also i was able to pull the Leafeon from my 1st etb of evolving skies, only opened 2 of em

I know the vmax alt arts are quite a bit harder to get than the v alt arts, but I wonder if the generational gimmick will hold some of these cards back in the future. Definitely doesn't appear to be the case at the moment, but I personally like the regular v alts more.
I think it'll matter moving forward - there's only 3 sets with alternate art VMAX cards, so that makes them pretty special

Median price on TCG isnt really reliable, people can list at any price they like.
With the big sellers having multiple listings of cards, it's not perfect but it can be a good indication
