Education and Covid: How could children make up for lost school time? - BBC Newsnight
A total of £700m in educational funding has been set aside to help ensure “no child is left behind” due to the coronavirus pandemic. Please subscribe HERE bit.ly/1rbfUog
Many children have missed out on months of classroom teaching as a result of school closures. An extra £400m in funding has been announced, along with £300m announced for catch-up projects in January.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the money will help ensure "no child is left behind" due to the pandemic.
Teachers, experts and unions called the money a "good start" - but warned about overwhelming pupils and teachers.
The prime minister has confirmed all pupils will return to classrooms from 8 March as part of the first step of a roadmap for easing England's lockdown.
Newsnight’s Political Editor Nick Watt reports.

Exactly!! Forex and Bitcoin trading are profitable but with the help of an Expert
I just sold all my Stocks Thinking of switching to either Forex or Bitcoin trading
Trading on your own is very risky one needs to be guilded by an Expert so as to maximize losses
I was trading on my own, till I was referred to Expert Ethan Landcruft who became my guilder/account manager I've been doing well with he's strategies
I don't really know how this Forex and Bitcoin trading works I only invested in stocks

School is a waste of time as it measures success on such a structured and rigid method. The fact that everything in school is based on tests and grades gives this false belief that if you aren’t a successful student, then you are a failure. This can be dangerous for children’s self esteem, causing them to believe that they aren’t good enough, and ignoring all of their many other potential talents that haven’t had the chance to be explored.
They dont want us to be happy they just want us to get good grades so they make more money
When so called educated people send children back to the pandemic incubators you really do have to ask yourself what has gone wrong with the education establishment, education system, and the education elite. What kind of education acts against our species survival instincts?
All universities should be open all the time. Online and offline study keeps together. Lower quality of higher education will destroy this country. Why we need be more cautious even we have vaccinations.
700M to add to the billions for ours and our childrens great depression future ..

'No child left behind' is an old American slogan. This could have many meanings, not just education.
Where is this magic money tree???
A teacher standing in a classroom is as deadly a super-spreader as a singer on a stage in a clib- so all universities and colleges need to be closed down forever. Google classroom must be the ONLY classroom. #BigLockDown
Yes we must never return to how things were before the pandemic. We need to preserve the new normal to fight other possible pandemics and climate change. Close the schools for good I say.
These idiots messed up my education by turning o levels which i was prepared for into gcse which was toally unfair If your kids are aged between 14 to 16 sue the goverment your kids have no future at the moment there will be a huge generation gap lost to this and with autmation As it is jobs will be scarce in the future

Schools are very costly when you consider how fertile a virus breeding ground they are, and how much wiser it is to keep the children safe and at home.

@@stuartwallace6154 But is that surprising? You would have to eliminate every other possible vector as the cause, and I'm not sure that can be done with a great deal of confidence. Plus you would have to keep each child completely isolated before and after school, which might cause a few issues.

Well... considering the vast majority don't remember what they were taught in school and a sizable percentage recognised school for them was just a matter of doing time is there really that much lost time out of school? What percentage of a human beings life should be spent in formal education?
@Maddie Witter But that doesn't mean formal education per se is invalid, does it? And if formal education is such a waste of time, why has there been a drive in every nation to either expand the number of students or attempts to deny it to certain sections of the population? What would your response be if I said that formal education for girls was a waste of time, so they shouldn't be able to go to school after the age of, say, 12 (enough to get them functionally literate and numerate, and if not, does that really matter)? Or no education for (insert ethnic group of choice)?

What an excellent idea. Let's continue to ruin children's lives, crash the economy, give away our rights and freedoms. The NHS needs to take a long hard look at how it spends money and how it organizes itself. We cannot sacrifice normal life on the altar of "protect the NHS". We need to gat back to normal - actual normal, not "new" normal. Oh, and stop calling people idiots - some of us have minds of our own and can make our own rational choices.

"Teachers, experts and unions" have all lobbied for harder lockdowns - on political grounds. They have had a very long break - on full pay. Time to get back to work.
Teachers haven't stopped working throughout the pandemic.
I’m sure all those teachers that were kept on the payroll were working hard to develop better home learning courses and resources in their time off. No? Still complaining about needing more money? Yeah thought so.
Time off? Teachers have been teaching. All schools need more money. Not sure why you think otherwise.
@@Lunarfacia If they’ve been teaching then why are they begging for more money to keep them in school over the summer? Who were they teaching? A few kids of key workers? Online classes for a couple of hours per day?
@@muckraker9095 They've been teaching classes both in school and from home. They've been setting work, marking work, carrying out assessments and contacting the homes of students not completing work, praising those completing their work and checking in with children from tutor groups. They've been making and sharing resources, making videos and been present throughout the working day to help students with questions about the work. There has been no begging. Teachers are qualified and trained professionals, it is not in the least bit unreasonable for them to expect to be paid for their services. Teaching is a difficult and skilled profession and should receive extra remuneration for any work carried out beyond contracted hours.
@@Lunarfacia Teachers rank amongst the most overpaid and ineffective workers in society. Teachers are responsible for failing schools all over this country. And no, they haven’t been working during the pandemic, it’s obvious to every single parent. Hence all of this talk about more money for “needed” lessons. Teachers are masters of whining for money - and pretending they are overworked. The results speak for themselves. Our children are as ignorant as ever.
@@muckraker9095 most ignorance in children is a result of their ignorant parents with whom they have vastly more contact. You seem to have a bit of chip on your shoulder about teachers. Did you have a bad experience? Are your children at a bad school? If they are then I feel sorry for them. I earn a really, really good salary and get 13 weeks a year holiday. I start my day 7.30am and finish at 4pm. I don't work at weekends or in my holidays. I am not overworked but I work extremely hard and I am exceptionally good at my job. I have an excellent work/life balance and I am very, very happy and content. I have continued to work hard for my students and their families throughout the pandemic holding a mixture of live lessons and presenting distance learning materials as well as marking tests from GCSE to A Level. I work a full day whether or not I'm at school in front of a webcam, teaching the children of key workers, working from home or carrying out my whole school responsibilities. As hard as I work there are many, many excellent and talented teachers at my school who work harder. This is not atypical. As a result, I will not work for free. I am a skilled and very well qualified professional and I charge for my services as I would expect every professional, whatever the field, to do. I do not want any special recognition, a medal or a biscuit but if my services are required then they must be paid for.
