PowerNation will you guys ever do a built 318 or a 360.
No. You guys are just reposting 5-year old (and older, since Joe is in it) stuff from the Powerblock website that is unwatchable there because of all the popup ads.
would someone tell pops if he wants them to get a real life..... build a real hem!
PowerNation, why does not the engine have a place to pour the oil in... so when oil is needed you have to pull the valve covers ever time to add oil.
Slotmech yyygjkkoyy
KZhead doesn't deserve such quality content. And the guys are so cool and relaxed.
Started watching these shows with my dad when I was probably 8 or 9. Favorite channel on KZhead right here
Yes we do
This is was a TV show not wannabe KZhead famous clowns
Ahh the memories. I used to get a good buzz from watching these shows on a Sunday morning back when I was 13 or 14 years old. (Seen a guy say something similar in the comments too lol) now here I'm 30, watching these on KZhead this fine Sunday morni... oh. Its 5 PM now 😂 MORE!
The power block kicked ass it was my church as a kid I'm 35 here and miss these shows
@@donaldliverance2597 why do you miss them there right here for you to watch and they are adding more every few days
@@charlestorruella8591 I think the operative word should be MISSED perhaps not miss
I can't believe these guys did a complete tear-down, then reused the stock camshaft and lifters. MY main reason for breaking into a low mileage engine would be to replace the crap factory lifters on an engine stand rather than later in a vehicle when they fail.
Im not even a car dude. I just miss watching this show with my pops every weekend back in the day.
the fact that they pulled that whole short block with not one wire cut still blows my mind.
Only for tv. They got some advertising out of it for sure.
That would be a long block being fully there
Great build, Joe has that good ol late 90s early 00s car review voices. Man I used to watch these type of shows as a young teen to early young adult. It's great to have them here on KZhead. Very therapeutic. 😎
It's because he's from the old show called horse power TV back in the day
I don't think I could bring myself to reinstall the stock cam... Great vid though!
Well certainly not the lifters..
The ridges from that stamp are just begging to become hot spots causing detonation / preignition
With a roller cam there is little danger of failure as the rollers follow a similar path, the danger with flat tappet was each lifter took a "set" to each related lobe. I would never re-use a flat tappet cam, but I would buy a used cam if I knew the specs.
The 5.7's got an issue with the roller-lifters (or lack of maintenance or oil)
100 percent agree....even a mild increase in lift and duration....just a little.....gawd. I guess they just want a baseline, cuz you KNOW we are going to see at least two more ''stages''
Not sure when this was filmed, but I'm just now seeing this (7/12/19). Funny, back in 2017 I bought a 2002 Cummins 5.9 from that same recycler (B&R out of Eugen, OR) and it was packaged like total crap. It's like they knew your engine was going to "Horsepower TV" so they took "special care" of yours and even sent it in a wooden crate. On mine, the dummies out there wrapped a metal band strap around the oil dipstick tube thinking that would be a "strong" tie down point. It suffered some damage of course. Not gonna do that again. Not worth the headache!
2010
Thanks for the heads up.
most recyclers think you are going to use the engine along side with one in your vehicle and disregard things like that
Hahaha, Mine came Cellophane wrapped on a used old tire which “rolled out of the delivery truck. It had a unrepairable crack in the block between the head bolt and water hole. Damn boat anchor in Northern Colorado
I wouldn’t buy a refurbished engine unless it came from factory, like Cummins.
I used to wake up early on sundays to watch these shows.. I love this stuff.. can't do any of it myself, but I love watching it heh.. glad it's on youtube.
Unlimited budget big money sponsors are nice to have.
Please, do NOT stop with the video release path you are going with. These are so fun to watch. Reminds me of Saturday and Sunday mornings watching this stuff.
Love seeing the 5.7 hemi get some loving, have owned multiple 5.7s in the last 10+ years and absolutely love these motors
Agreed! I’ve got an ‘07 Dodge Ram HEMI and a new ‘22 Dodge Durango RT. Love that 5.7 HEMI.
I have to say thank you for finally being on KZhead. I thoroughly enjoy these!
Looking forward to the next upgrade on this engine.
I'm really enjoying these multi-stage buildups. They've got a little something for everyone.
Nice cold solder
These videos are aweome. Ive got a 4th gen Ram 1500 with a 187,000 miles on it. Im going to be following these videos when I rebuild my engine in the near future. Keep up the good work boys, I love seeing those hemi and 4th gen ram videos! Keep em coming!
06 charger rt 5.7 with 245k still running
Hi there, did you do a rebuild using this vid,I'm doing a Ap6 valiant ,1965 a body, first Aussie v8 released, anyway I'm doing a 2006 5.7 hemi with basically all mods done in this vid, fast ezi efi ,modman intake, etc etc ,curious to see if used any of there and if had any probs,my motor is getting built in few months,is a running motor ,125 thousand kms on it
Thank you for continuing to post these great videos
Thank you for watching!
You guys are the best. Wish I could have you two rebuild my little 304 in my '72 CJ-5....but....not dipping that block would make me absolutely CRAZY!!!!! Keep it up guys.
Nice to see they packaged the motor so nicely for horsepower tv. They shipped my motor on a bare pallet with two metal strapping bands, and when the motor showed up, it was on its side and the front plate on the motor was cracked and a valve cover was broken along with all the coils
Great content! Please Keep them coming! Y’all had me hooked when you built that 460!
I have so many questions: Why label the pistons if you’re installing aftermarket pistons? Why install aftermarket pistons if you’re running a stock cam? Why install new bearings if the bearings look as good as new?
had so much fun watching this, many thanks!
OMFG that limp mode is AWESOME. im definitely getting one of those efi kits for my next project car
Yea let’s just spend thousands of dollars “upgrading” this hemi so it can make 10 horsepower over stock. What the fuck
I built a 240z with a 5.7 in it... ran amazing... amazingly into a tree...
I have a 86 dodge Daytona.. maybe not but sounds like fun.. leave out the. Tree
Really love your video's ! doing a great job. Greetings from Holland
The “quench” is everything🚀
I have an issue of Engine Masters magazine from about 8 - 10 years ago in which they used a stock junkyard 5.7 junkyard HEMI like this one. They didn't even remove the heads, but they swapped the cam, used a FAST fuel injection system with headers and made over 500 hp.
I agree, bunch of hacks on this show
400 horsepower 392 torque out of a 345 cubic inch engine is amazing
Mopar or no car LOL
@@alexlevy322 then whatever you do dont go to sloppy mechanics and check out the guy turning 8's in a junkyard 4.8, or hot rod where they did 60 1000hp pulls on a stock 4.8.
Impressive delivery of information. You guys are great.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. A TOTALLY AWESOME BUILD. GREAT FOR ANY DAILY DRIVER.
Why not replace the oil pump while you had the motor disassembled? Seems a relatively inexpensive insurance policy.
At least with ls motors. I take them apart, inspect them. If it's good it's good. A proven part is a proven part.
Absolutely!
If it's apart, replace the oil pump.
@@youcanbesmartaskhow3857 If it's apart, take apart the pump and inspect it. If it's fine it's fine. A proven part is a proven part. You can get a brand new pump and have it be fucked up.
General motors will provide a new oil pump for Northstar head gasket replacement, crankcase reseals, and piston/ring replacement labor operations without warranty clerk authorization. They are more superstitious about old parts than you are about new ones, enuf to pay for it.
Most newer engines I agree with your statement that the front cylinder is going to be the #1 cylinder. However, some engines it is the opposite, it's best to check with the manufacturer if your building a high horsepower engine.
@every Ford in the 2000s
Mopar has been using the oil pan gasket and windage tray combo since 99 on the 4.7 motor
That's a good build. Nice and simple.

Would love to see a 6.4 HEMI build. Mild build for the everyday driver.
I grow up watching this show on Sunday and Saturday
Keep them coming boys.
I like this Crysler engine, I think it is well engineered with some valuable features.
It would be a great swap for an old school Mopar like the 69 Charger, 70 Cuda, 70-74 Charger, and a 71 Duster or heck even in a 76 Dodge Aspen or 77 Dodge Little Red Express pickup.
Would love to see you guys do a v10 from the f250 tritan motor !
Thats one crazy clean Recycled engine.
B&R’s attention to fittings and hoses is insane :O
55hp over stock, with stock valave springs!!! Badass!!!
Truck engines are tuned for low end torque and go not screaming at 6K rpm and over. The same exact engine in the Challenger/charger has more HP(roughly 30 IIRC) as it's tuned for peak performance. They didn't do any magic here...
@@DL101ca This engine is from 2003 it probably made 345 hp. Before they used it for the charger and challenger. The early 5.7L Hemis only made 340 OR 350 hp in chargers depending on the trim. Then the newer ones with VVT made 350-370. They did a decent amount of work in order to get a 2003 5.7 Hemi at a higher hp than newer ones. Source: I own a 2007 Charger R/T and its base HP was 340 hp.
5.7l computer controlled fuel injected hemi v8...legend for over 50 years? Man I never realized dodge was that advanced 50 years ago.
Chrysler was first with the alternator back in the late 50’s, first with disk breaks, electronic ignition, the gear reduction starter, I could go on. Chrysler engineering has always been on top. They even put a jet engine in a few hundred cars and the Hemi was developed as a fighter plane engine for the war effort WWII.
Why is the clicking sound of those electrical connectors so satisfying?? I can't be alone here....can i??
Hey Loved this show. Excellent price on the whole motor package. That Safety Kleen ultrasonic tank AKA Hot Tank is sharp.
My teacher would have had a stroke if he was around to see someone smack the top of a piston with a puch
Wolfman Rebel dude same
Would he have an intake stroke, or an exhaust stroke?
I think he'd have a compression stroke....
Could it even be his 4th stroke?
Thought that was just me
with all the problems the 5.7 have with the rollers, why would you reuse them?
Probably rebuilding it for a customer
It's only the eagle hemi 2009 - current that have the issue. 03 - 08 we're solid.
@ pa h My understanding is that that problem is mostly confined to engines in vehicles with very long use hours --i.e., those that remain idling for long periods like police cars, cabs and delivery trucks?
I've read that the valvetrain problems the 5.7 has are nearly always the engines with MDS (multiple displacement system). It's on vehicles with automatic transmissions. This truck engine must've come from a manual transmission because it has plastic plugs where the MDS sensors usually are.
Michael Marks there was no manual transmission offered. I have the non MDS with those block off plastic plugs in my 2005 Hemi Ram with automatic. MDS was an option and I’m glad I didn’t get it from the issues others have had.
I will have to follow this build, as I have third gen Hemi engine in my truck. I might be looking for a new home for the stout block. The Ram is getting a little ripe as do most of them.
I definitely needed this video
Why would you spend $2k on a low mileage factory motor with harness and ecm then rebuild motor and not use any of the factory stuff. Bet a bare long block was $750
Probably because they got it way cheaper than $2000 after offering to plug the seller on their KZhead channel. This whole channel is nothing but a big ad for whoever throws them a few bucks to hock their wares.
@mk319mod0 Yeah but there are plenty of better channels where the actual content doesn't feel like an afterthought to the product placement.
@mk319mod0 that's kinda how the tv and KZhead world works man advertising is expensive I did work for Mike Holmes years ago it was all free to him but our company went through the roof
turn an EFI into a carb setup. wasted motor.
@@chubbysumo2230 wasn't a single carb in this video. .
Stock cam but new pistons. Yet u marked the old pistons. Kind of odd
hah, nice username lmao
Probably decided to swap pistons after pulling them.
Not odd at all. Always mark the pistons, been if replacing. After teardown, and you inspect the components you we an issue you know where it can from. And possibly find other issues.
@@meegstomtom they knew they were replacing them from the beginning tho
@@fatnfurious9171 yeah. I'd still mark and inspect them. Piston slap, odd wear patterns, and such. Maybe a stuck/broke ring. Signs of excessive over heating. If they are junk, then the test on the components aren't going to be much better. And depending on conditions will help determine a starting point as to what to do. Hone the cylinders out or bore them? And home much. Excessive heat omg I would have much more machine work in making sure everything is align bored as well. Nice clean block with little wear, depending on build, could be new bearings, rings and a valve job. I take time and look through a whole motor before I start anything.
Awesome show!!!!, I’d love too see a full on, max it out, no expense spared, get every last drop out of it, coyote build. Those engines are a mystery to me
I love this show ! Thanks !
That oil pan gasket is over 120 bucks with mopar rubber... mental
Awesome video! I would love to see a 4.6 2V engine being built.
Me too...a non pi block and rotating with pi heads.
I agree
Explorer aluminum block, ported heads & intake, cam, Aviator throttle body, underdrive pulleys, dished pistons from NPI block, Trickflow plenum, Kooks LTs (keep an H-pipe) While your motor is pulled, I'd also drop in a tubular K-member if this is going in a SN95 car
@@masterwhopper414 why bother with the aluminum block? Last time I checked, the 2v was never offered in a all aluminum engine. I'd go ..... Non pi short block Pi heads with a standard blend/port job Cams that offer a bit more duration and overlap than the stock , high lift , pi cams E85 Bbk Hilborn style intake.
The 4. 6L 2v had the worst valve spgs.
Awesome video. Great engine!!
Great work guys

This show is a modern classic
Am I the only person who was like all that work just to throw the stock cam back in it. If I was involved in this shit show a cam and valve springs would be my first mod
Yeah toss the stock cam in the thrash can and go get a Comp cams 268 or hit Ebay and get a 6.1 cam.

DC Bluez and cam. Wakes the hemi up
Melling lifters and cam. Stay away from aftermarket.
krvnjrcbs because mine makes 390 out of the factory. Why not make more?
Fun to watch and see what the rich folks are doing.
if you live in the northeast, you can find a hemi truck dirt cheap. i was scoping fb marketplace pretty hard, but found Both trucks local to me. so far i have less than 2 grand in 2 hemi trucks. ones a 2005 hemi1500 4x4,and the other is a 2003 hemi 2500 4x4, both run and drive and are daily drivers. if the trucks break down, ill yank the motors and still be ahead of the game. for all you aspiring dreamers, the weak spots are the valve seats and the needle bearing lifters. Always give those a Very good inspection for wear/damage.
Fantastic Engine!!!!
These hemis ( 5.7 ) is 345 cu. in. engines and you ban't compare these today with those of yesterday. These today are a completely different all together. They do run good but I really do believe that the 340 6 pack is a better runner. I've had both. Great video though.
I love the stuff of yesteryear too, BUT these modern engines are hard to beat. These new heads and cams flow much better today and still give you 20MPG+- DEPENDING ON HOW YOU DRIVE. And these new engines will run 200k+ miles and still run great, the old stuff for the most part was clapped out by 100k.
@@garysisk3431 I can only speak for myself and my experience with the old stuff. I kept them tuned and burned 115 octane in most (real leaded avgas). I got any where from 22-29 miles per. They were all stick shift and no power add ons. Only my 1 ton duelley 460 was a gas guzzler. 44 gallons for 240 miles of work. But that bastard would pull a house down. Yes. new engines do have their good points but I still prefer the old stuff.
P.S. I did have a 1972 Gran Torino Fastback with a 351 Cleveland. I sold it to my brother @ 270,000 miles on the clock with only one water pump replacement besides the usual tune up stuff. It still laid rubber. He drove it for 35,000 more the sold it. Keep it tuned and don't drive like a maniac, good gas in, and they will last.
shouldve edited this a lil better.. cant get the oil pan gasket on with the pickup tube installed
quick take it off theyll never notice... they made some "critical" mistakes on this build, wont last.
love this show.
Great video!
Felpro headgaskets are garbage for 3rd gen hemi's. Guaranteed to leak. Replace them all the time from other shops. Use mopar gaskets.
What leaks on them. I use them and have not had an issue
m ph people like to talk. Nothing to back it up
@@MCarm69 Exactly. I just did 3 camshaft jobs on 5.7L Hemi's. I used Felpro head gaskets on all jobs. Surface prep, new head bolts using proper torque spec and you won't have an issue.
I’m retired so I can’t say anything about the parts Felpro is selling right now but in all my years as a professional technician I never had a failure. Just about any brand of head gaskets will work as long as you prep the surfaces and clean or replace the bolts and chase the threads in the block.
@@timsharpe3498 sure, older felpro stuff was cutting edge technology in a lot of applications. Not anymore.... I thought that if you're going to spend the time and effort to tear your engine down to do head gaskets you might as well spend the extra 25% and buy a quality OEM part.
I thought the tear down was to redo the notorious valve seat issue on these hemi engines
Only up to 2012 was that an issue, but good point. They didn't address it.
Smart people and what a good job 👏
Love this motor ❤❤❤
Great video. This is no budget build though and all that additional money, time, and effort thrown at it for a 50 hp gain makes so not worth it
haha teach that guy how to solder 13:28
Taking the factory engine and "fix" the factory flaws the public got stuck with. I myself am very fond of the "newer" 392 c.i. version! I myself would have replaced the camshaft/roller rockers and the pushrods, etc...Just too many possible problems not that far out in time so...
This is so easy, I know nothing and built my own Hemi using this video. :)
I thought hemi's pre '08 were prone to dropping valve seats, would have been money in the bank to have those replaced
Not unless you overheat them. The 4.7, 3.7, and 5.7 engines from that era WILL drop seats if you overheat them, but otherwise you'll be fine.
That Hemi would be a great swap for an old school Mopar like a 69 Charger, 70 Cuda, 70-74 Challenger and a 71 Duster or heck even in 76 Dodge Aspen or a 77 Dodge Little Red Express Pickup.
Great videos! Post more!!!
I like the way you put the piston rings on. lol
So you replaced 50k mile pistons for no reason but kept the stock valve springs which are notorious for failure. Wtf?
Nope. If you look closely those are the same pistons that came out of the engine - they just had a cycle in that spiffy new cleaning machine. All they did was tear it down, clean all the hard parts, then reassemble with new bearings. Really just a sanity check on a used motor that you're planning to push hard. ;)
Eric K 7:50 “The new mahle pistons...”
@@EricFixalot - I did hear that too, but if you look, he's putting the same pistons he punch marked back into their holes. I'm thinking he meant "new Mahle piston *rings*"... ;)
Eric K If you look closely, the ringlands have the anti-friction coating they’re talking about. I believe the numbers are also laser etched instead of being punched.
Valvesprings don't fail on the 3G Hemi. Lifters do. Then they wipe out the cams. That was all fixed by Mid-2016.
Hemi's could have 700hp if they had no restrictions
I hope we'll get to see a project using MSD's Atomic EFI soon! It's the only option for us in California with cars newer than 1975.
nice seeing basically the same hemi that was in my '04 Durango limited. my new '19 ram 1500 has the hemi since I loved the Durango so much. loving the extra ponies (395 up from the old 345) and the new 8spd auto.

Great video
I think that these two guys were my favorite hosts. They are all good, though.
Somebody needs to be taught how to properly solder. Applying solder to the soldering iron IS NOT the correct way.
Holy adds, 5 Oreily ads and I’m only halfway through the video. Will not be finishing it.
The entire show is all adds even while they are working they are promoting products, if you ever watched this program on TV you had about 10 minutes of program and 20 of commercials
Ray Silke if they were at least different I wouldn’t mind as much, but can only listen to the same thing so many times
FYI, the piston closest to the front of the engine isn't always number one. Case in point is a "Y" block Ford. I had a hard time using my timing light until I cracked a book and found that number one was on the opposite bank, not the furthest forward.
