Dane here! Even politians ran in to save stuff. Brian Mikkelsen who ran in and saved one of the iconic paintings, he is in charge of Dansk Erhverv and was the minister of Culture once. He kept running in to save more, even got there late to the press meeting bc he was checking the building out after most of the fire was put out. I have so much respect for him bc of this
What a historic and beautiful building. Hugs to everyone in Denmark from here on the east coast of America. I’m so sorry for this huge loss. Isak Dinesen is one of my all time favorite writers. ❤️
So sad, kudos to those who saved the paintings! Much love! Such a courageous selfless act for preservation of history !❤
Even the workers who were evacuated took their time to save the paintings as they fled. I'm devastated but also so proud.
If you can’t see and be reminded of the old world then all you will see is soulless corporate spaces.
Oldest stock exchange building on earth. Turns 400 years next year. Amsterdam started the first stock exchange, but the building was demolished almost 200 years ago.
Repairing a roof doesn’t start a fire as such, but arson does. Another history about to be rewritten.
Bingo!
Lots of power tools generate heat and even sparks, and that is almost certainly what started this fire - not arson.
Diversity is our strength.
Moozlimb renovation teams perhaps?
Arson of another historic building in Scandinavia? Sounds like we're about to get some sick Danish black metal albums this year.
Was the Notre Dame destroyed by a renovation as well. Note to future renovators take everything nice out of their before letting people renovate
Yep both were renovating at the time, they never figured out exactly the cause at Notre Dame but I would say both these were caused by the renovations, the scaffolding also prevented the firefighters from getting water on the fires. Renovation methods are clearly flawed
@@ytzpilot Yeah, I'm sure that's what caused it to burst into and inferno, "renovations". Diversity is our strength.
@@ytzpilot Yet no other renovations do this, it's only historic buildings...
@@kgm2182 Historic buildings would obviously have a higher risk involved considering the materials used when they were built and the regulations (or lack thereof) at the time. Even if you've modernized somewhat, a building like Børsen was declared to be not just preservation-worthy, but obligatorily preserved. So you can't just replace walls with more modern materials or to install fire doors or sprinkler systems. It has to be preserved as close to original as is feasible. Considering how many historic buildings exist and are renovated regularly, the fact that it doesn't happen more frequently is honestly what you should take note of instead.
@@Sigart Nope. Everything is still made of wood and cathedrals have candles burning in them 24/7. You simply don't know what you're talking about.
Notre Dome and now this?
The lesson is: Don't renovate!
Problem with that is if you don't renovate, other problems would crop up, which would also destroy the building eventually. Its a classic "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario. I think tighter safeguards must be implemented during renovations to historic structures to prevent such incidents from happening.
These "accidents" will continue to happen. Notice that they often happen during "renovations". There are no coincidences.
Diversity is our strength.
That spire looks like a lightning rod 😅
Europeans and those of us abroad are losing so much of who we are and were now. So sorry about this from a Texan
Yes, almost like it's planned.
Let's just not spend millions on stuff like this. Let's use the $ for good.
It was made of wood. Wasn't going to last forever.
@@bobbykiefer4306 thats the spirit of a nay sayer..... with an attitude like that, good job you're only made of flesh and bone huh?
@@christianmichael1970Nothing lasts forever it’s a shame though
What a shame. So sorry for the residents of Copenhagen. Sending hugs from California.
Thanks California. Many Danes cried and don't believe what we saw yesterday.
Another American here. My ancestry is Scandinavian and my heart goes out to everyone in Denmark for this great historic and cultural loss. Best wishes to all from a long lost relative. 😪
Thanks for the hug. I passed the building yesterday evening, lots of people there but silence all around, like a funeral almost. I'll be going to Los Angeles next month, I hope it'll cheer me up, feeling very sad now
@@pharol I am in LA! We should have sun and warmth for you. I hope you can walk or ride a rented bike along the beach in Santa Monica, or kayak in Marina del Rey. Both right there on the west side of LA. I hope you enjoy.
@@mellocello187 Thank you. I've never seen the Pacific, so will definitely visit the beach. The closest I've been was Austin, Texas
Is it going to be replaced with another modern soulless building designed by someone who gets paid WAY too much?
No. It´s going to be rebuilt as it was. It has already been decided. No one even thought of doing anything else.
I wonder if it was infested with mold, roaches or rodents and someone had to make a hard decision that an official couldn't understand.
Why? We have pretty good architects in Denmark. But no worries: Denmark is a rich country and will rebuild like the Notre Dame is being rebuilt. The irreplacable fine art inside was saved.
No, this building is too iconic and an important part of our history. The ministry of culture has already promised that the dragons will fly over the city again.
Heritage professional here! Please STOP the conspiracies! Renovations make these buildings incredibly vulnerable. The scaffolding is also a hindrance to firefighters. I have and MA specializing in protecting preserving historical buildings. In most cases, these old buildings' roofs are made of wood with metal plating as roofing. If a fire ignites in the roof the metal acts like an oven, containing the heat and the fire spreads incredibly fast. I hate that some ignorant people are using our national tragedy as an excuse to be hateful.
I’m here in Texas crying over the building I learned so much about it when I started going to church when I was in high school and watching hearing that the building will be open in December I’m glad that some workers, worked on the building for 5 years straight the old fashioned way, but now when I look at pictures of the building it just won’t be the same anymore
Bless you! This building is a huge part of the Danish soul. My country is mourning but I love that people abroad can see its value and importance. Mange tak!
This is very heartbreaking 😢💔
tragic
That’s a shame
How many more renovations are going to end up destroying world monuments!? The folks in here are at fault and should feel the consequences tangibly.
This hurts my feeling especially being a dane 😢
I bet people care more about this building than homeless people, we will see how fast and how much money is raised to rebuild it compared to money to help homeless people.
Notre Dame 2.0
Diversity is our strength. Diversity is our strength.
You'd think that after Notre Dame extreme measures would be taken to avoid even small chances of fire.
Unless...
Just like the Notre Dame fire/arson in Paris, no one is responsible. Don't ask questions. Go back to sleep. It just caught on fire by itself. Diversity is our strength. Diversity is our strength. Diversity is our strength.
Exactly! I really seldom watch the news anymore. I have to hunt the information down myself instead.
Thank you! My country is mourning right now, and it breaks my heart that ignorant people are using this tragedy to be hateful and full on racist. I work in this field and it's sadly common that these old constructions are super vulnerable when renovated.
So sad
People, the comments are ridiculous and maudlin. Change happens even in peace and prosperity and it should. Growth and transformation is nature's way. There's no virtue in resisting nature in this way. Unless what you want is a pretext for eternal disappointment and grievance. Some people are happiest when they have something to complain about.
Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rojiun lailahailallah muhammadurrasulullah Allahu alaihi wasallam
We had an iconic church in Connecticut from the 17thC crumble to the ground a couple of months ago. It's shocking.
What’s with these renovation companies??? Lowest bidder?.
Exactly
What if this outcome is exactly what they were paid to do?
@@JustMe-mp8on you don't hear about all the renovations that go well because nothing happened. These old buildings are ridiculously flammable. Last time this happened was 5 years ago. Very rare
Diversity arson teams. 😮
come on man how does a fire start in a building like this??????
Intentionally.

Reminds me of Notre Dame burning during renovations. Officials blamed contractors. Meanwhile after the Notre Dame fire a migrant from Rwanda admitted to burning down several other Catholic churches in Paris. Look it up. Even if this was arson they'll never admit it. If you burn down a mosque on the other hand you'll go to prison for a long time.
The Family Guy episode where the firefighter says, "Huh...Ironyyy!!" 👉👈 😂
Has the peanut gallery blamed global warmbing yet?
most likely the peanut gallery will somehow tie this to immigration or DEI
No, but the rightwing has already posted a stupid remark.
Ok im not a conspiracy theorist but its odd this happens like a week after the segment about notre dame
It's not
What? That old Thang 🐈⬛😴
Notre Dame now this building. It would seem its time for construction firms who work on these historic structures to step back, review what is going on to cause this kind of thing, and make necessary adjustments. This is tragic.
"Renovations". Surely this was only an accident.
Diversity is our strength.
They're erasing you guys.
Jesus Christ people! Have we learned nothing from Notre Dame?! They should've removed the priceless artifacts first and THEN proceeded with the renovation.
Sounds like they used the same company for renovations as Notre Dame 🤨
Spire...scaffolding...fire!
Just one cigarette ********************************************************
I blame Israel free Palestine
So, what is the deal with old European Buildings catching on fire during roof renovations LOL!
Its the second major one in like 4 years. Old european buildings are getting renovated all the time, so it is a bias because nobody hears about smooth renovations
I can't believe that grown men are moved to cry so easily in Denmark. Soft.
Rich people problems
Arson, just like Notre Dame???? Yeah...
... the Hand of the HEBREW MOST HIGH upon the christians... the four dragon did not save that building...
Oh, will you please GROW UP!!! "Hand of God"? You sound like a pathetic 3-year-old! The announcer said what started the fire. Reality, try it, you might learn something.
Faulty electric, duh! Hmmm, makes me wonder, made it thru World Wars, but dies during renovations...
Insurance fraud
One way to get rid of a land mark… by an accidental fire wink wink … they get new funds for a new building and they get insurance money… win win for them and no fuss from the public trying to save a landmark
Well. I guess god has a way of working things out. ❤

Another historic building takes 🔥 during renovation? Conspiracy theories anyone?
That’s exactly the type of question the arson would make 🤔
what happened in front of Notre Dame 777 years before it burned? hmm that's funny
They are still purposely burning down ancient architecture

did they burn talmuds in front of it? cuz thatll do it. RIP notre dame
