  • All falls on or off the track are awful, for horse and rider. However, the music track with this was EXTREMELY AWFUL.

    • You obviously known very little about horse racing . Racing in a pack is what makes it possible to keep your position without having to steer the horse constantly. If you left plenty of space on either side, your mount would float naturally. Being constantly on the horse's mouth, with your legs squizzzing firmly the horse's sides is incompatible with the motion forward as a lot of stress is put on the horse's system. Racing is about relaxing your horse as he travels so he unwinds and oxygenated his muscles well. Thus finishing quicker and longer when asked to in the home run. There are a few more advantages related being up close such as keeping your self and your horse clear from kickbacks such as muscle, or all water sand and stuff. There's a lot to be learned before opening one's mouth and talk a lot of bullshit.

It didn't go down, it just snapped and the horse stopped and stood there trembling. The announcer didn't know what was happening and just kept saying that we needed to clear the arena. Finally someone told the announcer that the horse had a broken leg and the guy shut up. This was many many years ago and I can't remember much past that moment. I remember being so horrified. Thankfully it never happened to me while I was riding. That was close enough!

  • Not a top 5 of jockey falls without Adrian Maguire being trapped under Hatcham Boy, while 2 horses rolled over the top of them. Thankfully horse ok, I looked after him, Adrian had a broken leg, happened on the final bend at Ascot in a novice hurdle race in 1995. I watched it happen on a small screen on the lads stand, then watched the replay on BBC parents had recorded. Remember it vividly, dealing with horse, 2 hours in the vets box, before being cleared to take him home, the other option was to take him to vets surgery just down the road for monitoring. Shows the care and attention given to the horses, not immediately put the horse down. Though the vet did say that was his first thought and had the gun cocked and ready, Hatcham Boy got up and kicked a dent in the bonnet of his car before galloping down the course, vet chased after him in his car, I'd caught Hatcham Boy by this point, vet came straight to me and took us into vets box, where Jeremy the travelling head lad joined us. All the others were busy with stewards, owners and other horses, so Nick Skelton the Olympic show jumping individual gold medalist was running round with messages

Because they are now unsuitable for human consumption they are put into a new use being turned into your favorite pet's food . Their fat is turned into oil farmers run their tractors with. • @@christophedallaporta8836 you are not correct. Every race run in the US collects a percentage of the purse that is distributed thru the local HBPA and funds the retired race horse program. All tattooed (now microchipped) JC (Jockey Club) registered TB is eligible for these funds. They are rehabbilitated, rehomed to go onto their next career. Very very very few go into the slaughter pipeline. The ones who do slip thru did not come off the track into auctions. They are people who get a cheap horse but have little to no knowledge of husbandry and quit. Selling the horse to unscrupulous kill buyers. I'm 4th generation in the racing industry and have been placing OTTB's (that's off track Thoroughbreds) for 46 years now. I don't have to "look it up" I live it daily.

    • It doesn't have to be a heart attack .race horses hearts are very strong. I'd rather say brain shutdown. I've seen it a few times . It usually happens as you turn off the engine past the post. The horse is set into a walk . Then all of a sudden, he reaches for the sky before crashing down the ground. Every sport is the same : behind the joy of the happy few on the day , a lot of hard work that doesn't lead anywhere, and a fair few broken bones. Over the course of time, my way of looking at it has somewhat changed for the "not so happy with it." I think that we humans are a little bit crazy.

It's not total justice or else the trainers and the owners would be put in equal amounts of agony, but it's better than nothing. Yes, stadium jumping and cross country do have severe injuries occur, but by the same token, their riders are shredded with grief when such an unfortunate event happens. Every step to prevent such events is taken, from waiting until they've sufficient bone density to start them, to carefully planned diets, to supervised play time, and even turned out with pasture boots unlike their cousins, the racetrack bred Thoroughbred.

There are also pictures of dead muscle on the horse's hip or shoulder after being whipped. The muscle literally dies. Horses do feel pain. Their pain receptors are just under their skin. And cleaning out stalls and brushing horses doesn't mean you know everything. I have seen a comment where you said you are a vet. So I guess you are just lying here, you probably don't even work anywhere near horses. This would never happen if these (please put the expletive of your choice here) fools saddled to the horse did not push them to a near death experience. Any riding sport is the same from riding school to showjumping. A pony could trip over its own feet and have to be put down, horses get put down from playing in the field, racing is probs the best riding sport really as they are allowed to be free and just gallop as fast as they can, whereas showjumping for example you are always holding back to get the right stride and they are not allowed to run off. Just give the racing industry a break🤦‍♀️

  • So I’m guessing we should bubble-wrap horses and keep them for moving to fast and shove them into a tight arena ‘just incase’? No. TBs are built for racing, they are extremely fast and loves to run. They train them right and make sure they are healthy and happy from the min they start training them. Trainers actually train the horses to run, how run with others horses right next to them.

    @amberliemarie722@amberliemarie7225 жыл бұрын
    • Amberlie Marie it doesn’t make a difference how good they are trained if they are run to hard, to often and to young. Growth plates in the LEGS ALONE can take up to 5 years to mature depending on the individual. Racehorses are treated as disposable commodities. Over 10,000 die every year. That doesn’t include the foals clubbed to death from “nurse mares “ so they can care for thoroughbred foals while their dam races. “While the Thoroughbred foal is coddled and valued as a potential race horse, the nurse mare foals are merely the by-products of the industry. A fortunate few may be rescued by horse advocacy groups but the greater part are killed by clubbing or other means “ horsefund.org. please do your research.

    • "They train them right,..." LOL, that's cute. A few of them get trained right, true enough, but a lot of them get saddle broken, gate trained just well enough to satisfy the stewards, and with enough exercise to keep them from going totally bonkers in their stalls for the other 23 hours a day, and just all of them are pushed far too much, and far too soon in life. Catastrophic failure of immature bones is completely on the hands of the incompetent trainers and jockeys they are unfortunate enough to be placed with. These are two year olds, for the most part, and a horse doesn't even reach maximum bone density until they're 7 years old! Just because they're big doesn't mean they are ready to be ridden, and especially pushed to these limits.

    • Andy Spiderburg why do you say her statement's stupid?

      @emeralddetailing@emeralddetailing6 жыл бұрын
    • paul morgan Horses do not like being stabled, they do not care if they get fancy stables or pretty multicoloured rugs. What they care about is survival and being in the herd. What we think is “nice” treatment aka tidy stabling is not what they need, what they need is to be able to express natural behaviours and be in the herd, which is often denied from them. Racing is very cruel, they are harshly bitted, often with chains across their gums or chiffneys when not racing, putting incredible pressure and pain on their mouths, their girth’s are overtightened and painful too and they are made to run far too hard, more than would be needed in the wild...before they are returned to their stable, stiff and sore and away from their kind. If you could see an ex racer you would understand how badly this can affect them. And before you say that they like it because they continue to run after the jockey has been unseated, it is because they want to remain with the herd. The racing industry is incredible cruel to their animals, all for commendations and a title. We can ask something from horses in return for the food and shelter we provide them, but within the boundaries of what is physically possible and tolerable for the poor animals.
