The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 2 continues. Apparently this is 'Structure Week' now!
This tutorial will show you where to find Jungle Temples and Desert Temples - two of Minecraft's oldest generated structures. We find the solution to the Jungle Temple switch puzzle, defuse tripwires without setting off the traps, and loot all the chests! Then, after a brief distraction from a Desert Well, we go out in search of a decent size desert biome and finally locate a desert temple!

Pix, the buried tressure map is at level 1/4, so the marker becomes the tiny dot 512 blocks away from the border (as soon as the marker becomes the big dot) of the map, level 0 is 256 blocks, for every scaling its different, there was nothing on the wiki as u said so I generated a new world and tested it myself. Love your vids btw ; )
MVP. King of the video. Great work, thanks for doing the maths!

Make sure to put that on the Wiki!

When you open the chest in the ship that had a map inside it. so when when you click on chest UI. There was a bit lag and then the chest open up. it is because the area where the treasure is according to that map has not been rendered by the game. So according to the duration of lag spikes you can calculate the distance of the treasure.
That’s neat, but also seems kinda complicated to rely on that when you can just follow the map 😅
@@Pixlriffs yea 😃
@@Pixlriffs you should show off the philza method of finding the treasure. Its a nice lil trick to finding exactly which block a treasure chest is on without f3
I've noticed in 1.18, looking through random seeds on Chunkbase, that deserts are now as rare and far away as jungles used to be, while jungles are much more common. I wonder if they did it on purpose and if so why, since sand is so important. Maybe they thought having larger beaches would make up for it or something. I hope they'll do something about the lack of deserts in future updates, maybe replace some of those extra jungles with deserts and balance things out.
Has made me glad the core of my server world was generated in 1.14, because that detail of the new generation is kinda sucky. We picked a random ungenerated area to go to for 1.18 experiences, and the nearest desert to it is +2500 units away.

maybe if you decide to rebuild that desert village you could integrate a whole bunch of gold and turn it into El Dorado - it did seem like you were searching for this location for a super long time
+
Especially since there is a badlands right there, gold would be easy for the locals to get.
THAT WOULD BE SICK
@@ThatOneLadyOverHere I will be disappointed if pixlriffs doesn't do this
14:32 I think it's pretty remarkable that the golden chestplate in this ruined portal has Protection IV. That is one of the first times I've seen Protection IV put on any loot armor in the overworld. That would be an extremely lucky find in a situation like, say, Imp and Skizz's Naked & Scared series, where it's Ultra Hardcore and you can't craft or trade for armor.
Also great for early-game Nether exploration in general! Gotta have that gold to avoid piglins' ire, but with prot IV you're sacrificing a lot less protection, especially if it's early enough that you'd be going in with iron armor otherwise.
I’m loving this new week of the guide! 😍 I actually wouldn’t mind to see in an episode how you link the portals in the Nether 😊
We’ll cover more ‘Nether Hub’ stuff in a future video, for sure
Looks like this week is going to be "Structure week" , loads you can do with them! just waiting until a pillager tower accidentally pops up...
It would be nice to see a summary of what each structure is good for: Like the most interesting loot from the tables, and what mobs spwn there. For instance an ocean monument is mainly used for sponges and prismarine, usually from making a gaurdian farm.
Don't worry. Pix found loads of Pillager watch towers.
I've been playing Minecraft since 2013 and I never heard that you can safely break tripwires with shears
Always more to learn!
Aren't you can just break it with your hand?
@@YouberChannel Yes, but it will still shoot an arrow. Using the shears it breaks without shooting an arrow.
Dude, we need a video on how you keep your inventory so clean. You always have room for loot chests and things xD
I, for one, am amazed that neither jungle temple or desert temple had any hostile mobs in them. 😳 I’ve rarely come across one (on Bedrock) that isn’t a night club for the undead.
Captain Pixlriffs and the H.M.S. Survival 👍 That ship that has ran a-ground would be a great base. Also random tip, the top floor of a desert temple is also in the same pattern as a three tiered beacon, and actually can hold one.
19:59 I think that was the first Water MLG of the season! It's a really neat trick to negate fall damage.
One of my favorite things to do is remake villages especially if they are really broken. Can’t wait to see that project!
The blue terracotta in the center originally was blue wool and was hinting for the player to break it out and use a bucket of water to flood the chamber below to remove the pressure plate.
@jess Right that trick will not work now. Water mechanics have changed a bit. We use to could create water elevators using signs between each water source, but those elevators don't work anymore. I forget which version they stopped working, but I believe it was when they allowed certain items like slabs to be waterlogged.
Side note: You can also get soulspeed books from bastion remnant loot chests
Pixlriffs, looking at the desert village: *I can fix you*
How is it episode 37 already? Pixlriffs is just pumping out the content!
You should make a video where you compare your old videos to now and see how much you’ve improved, that would be cool
Village, jungle temple, desert pyramid, badlands… Pix hit the jackpot on that. I’m gonna keep an eye out for the stream on connecting those portals. Hopefully there will be a large nether hub build soon.

@@rougesentry204 oh yeah.
Hey Pixlriffs! You should consider doing a Martian base in the badlands for your biome bases! White and black block palettes next to red sand look very NASA like.
thanks so much!! I have explored a couple of desert temples but had no idea where to find the loot!
Thanks for taking peaceful players in consideration! I never knew there were sticky pistons in a jungle temple and they’ll be quite helpful! The main reason I play in peaceful is anxiety. Any tips on overcoming that 😞
Maybe start by playing on peaceful, then once you've got decent armour and a base established, ease yourself into other difficulties by starting on Easy. Like many other anxieties, the key is to focus on what you can control. Learning a bit about how to prevent mob spawning is a good start - mobs need total darkness to spawn, so you can easily make safe areas for yourself by placing light sources like torches.
Have you tried starting out in peaceful, establish and secure a base, obtain equipment, and then switch to easy difficulty? I still don't really like survival starts and will scout the world seed via ChunkBase to find the location of a reasonably-sized mushroom island. My priorities then are: Punch a tree, kill 3 sheep, make a bed and a boat, grab some basic resources and head off to the mushroom island to set up a safe starter base.
@@TheRealWormbo you literally just repeated what pix said
You could also try to play with the keepinventory rule set to true so you can never loose anything on death if that's a worry of yours.
@@Pixlriffs I did have the same problem, but i did manage to go from peacefull to easy, and now i can play on normal mode. :)
I love seeing a new upload. I can't get enough of this series.
I thought this was going to be ocean week, but any survival guide episode is a great episode!
I think its the structure week
This is exploration week
I used hoppers on the treasure chest into a shulker box. The maps than do NOT get an ID and can be used elsewhere 👍🏻💜
I’m loving this new week of the guide! I actually wouldn’t mind to see in an episode how you link the portals in the Nether
I feel like it’s harder to find all the biomes in 1.18 now, like you have to get an elytra now if you wana find a desert or good biome of descent size
I agree. The biomes are so big in this version that after a few weeks of playing survival, I end up switching to creative just to navigate my way around. I also find the huge holes everywhere in the ground frustrating. I’m a builder, and I want space to build.
@@Dinki-Di Yes! So far, I haven’t seen much reason to update my 1.17 world. I’m not as interested in exploration, and there’s so much buildable terrain in my 1.17, without worrying about distant resources and massive caves.
jungle temple on peaceful is the mvp. dispensers (dont need to use cats or striders for string to craft the bow) & string from trip wires, sticky pistons, annnd bones and rotten flesh. great loot for us. Desert temples provide tnt, provided that your pet doesn't fall on the pressure plate.
Yet another reason why I don’t like having pets in this game 😅
Thanks for being a beacon in my random Minecraft discoveries ☺️
Thank you for the reminder that calcite deposits can exist in warmer mountain ranges. I'm going to be needing a fair amount of the stuff for an upcoming build and I was stressing about if I'd be able to find enough geodes lol
When I see all the structures, its reminds me of pix tearing down entire various structures and rebuilding it in his museum in his last survival Guide.......it was awesome, and i really respect all the time and work he had given to that projects...........
I am pretty sure that buried treasure maps are loaded when the chest is opened since there is typically a lag spike when you open those chests. The more lag, the further the treasure is. I learned this as a speedrunning strategy since if there is a lot of lag you might as well not check the map in order to save time.
This series helps me a lot for my world.
That mountain desert village is epic - very inspiring for building! Many of the jungle temples I’ve found have been quite broken down, so much that the lever puzzles are missing blocks and you just have to dig for the loot.
Those super high villages seem to be quite common in this Minecraft version. I have built hundreds of stairs to connect the village paths broken by steep cliffs together to get all villagers access to village center.
@@raappant Fun! I also like making the villages bigger and better :) Always a risk of them getting stuck in the craggy hills, but you could get some awsome bridges in there. Like Mumbo's village, but livable :P
One of my first bases was in a jungle temple. Mainly because jungles were the biome back then and it was exciting to start near one. Yes I used to play this game a long time ago and yes this series is seriously helping me learn all that I missed during my break not playing.
I recieved my new headphones just now and guess what, you were the first person i heard with these ...
Love to see every your videos.. Plz upload as fast as you could❤️❤️
I REALLY wanna see you juice up a jungle temple with your own traps/puzzles/theme etc. That would be an amazing video mate. Also.. (And maybe I'm just old) Those outcroppings in that desert immediately reminded me of Aladdin and the cave he goes in, in the beginning.
I think they should update jungle temples. Nothing too much from classic, but maybe more stuff or unique loot tables. I think it would add a different, more important aspect of exploring one of these.
They should at least fix the bug they currently have, which Pix noted - as far as I'm aware, every single jungle temple in a world will have the same loot, determined only by the seed. The intent is that each one has randomized loot from the loot table they reference.
These are amazing, please make more
Be wary when entering jungle and desert temples; I frequently encounter hostile mobs in them. In my current world I found a desert temple above a cavernous space and heard the tell-tale patter of creeper feet inside. Somehow one had spawned or otherwise entered the treasure chamber and it apparently stepped onto the pressure plate while I was standing in the chamber above. The ensuing explosion destroyed all the treasure chests and opened a vertiginous drop into the cavern below. Pixlriffs mentioned in this episode that he was looking for a desert large enough to contain a temple. Several episodes ago I commented that a desert does not necessarily need to be large for that. In my first 1.18 Java Edition world I found a desert temple on a small island surrounded by rivers and sporting several different biomes. The world seed is -3812601179830974748, if you would like to see it. The world spawn is in a badlands biome with no trees in sight. The island with the desert temple is about 250 blocks to the northeast. It's an interesting world that presents a bit of a starting challenge.
Yeah, a desert doesn't *have* to be large for a temple to generate; but a larger desert presents more *opportunities* for one to generate.
I saw a question about jungle temples and the jungle edge/sparse jungle biome here earlier, but can't find it anymore: The answer is, jungle temples only generate in the jungle and bamboo jungle biomes, not in sparse jungles.
"if you don't want to see the solution look away now" Proceeds to say outloud the solution 😂😂
Would be cool if you made an episode about nether hubs and nether highways and this episode can be a great segway into that on how to make the Nether safe to travel in. Maybe you can even make a small lava stables for some striders.
The top of the desert temple is designed so you can put a maxed out beacon up there
Or were beacons designed so they can fit inside a desert temple? Desert pyramids were added in 1.3.1 - beacons were added in 1.4.2
What a place to set up a base! 1 of the many that there will be 😊👍🏻
If you're planing on building a base in every biome, I think the *almost shipwreck* is perfect for the start of a coral reef base. Also, the jungle/desert/badlands with both temples is the perfect way to cheat out a triple. It's like the game is setting it up intentionally!
The survival guide is such a fun video series
Did episode 7 today. Found 10 diamonds and a iron vein in the cave I found for episode 4. Also collected redstone
Hope you will have a great run in your world
I didn't know you could solve the puzzle lol. I've just been using my pickaxe to bust down the wall and loot everything. I even take the levers and dispensers. 😂

I always enjoy jungle temples. If you’re like me and dislike building your own base, jungle temples can be easily cleared out and turned into a great base. Real sturdy, too.
Why did you sturdy as if Minecraft has physics in it 😂
Pixal on treasure hunt Le ocean ruin :- "No"
If you do some modifying to the jungle temple you should fix the shipwreck and have it in the ocean nearby
Make one vid of the pillager raid cause i love those vids
Great video. I actually built my starter house in a jungle temple in 1.17
One thing to note about desert villages.. they'll often have cacti in flower pots in their huts, but sometimes they'll have sea pickles in the pots instead. Also, if you somehow spawn near a jungle temple (I haven't seen on in the jungles of my worlds for a while), they make great little bases once cleaned out.
1.18.2 is supposed to fix the desert generation and replace the stone with sandstone.
1:50 Vanilla, 24 chunks on a beefy computer with a 3080 versus Sodium, 24 chunks on a mid-tier gaming laptop with a 1660 Ti Who would win? Hint: Sodium is pretty cool
ironically enough I found my first desert temple yesterday. Naturally I saw the 4 chests and didn't even notice the pressure plate. Thankfully i was able to get back in time to grab my enchanted picks.
From what I’ve gathered from minecraft speedruns, I think the treasure map generates when you first open the chest, and if the treasure is further away like the first one you opened today, it takes a moment to load and doesn’t let you into the chest right away
I have been watching these for a really long time now, even though I already know about most of the stuff presented in these videos, I still keep on watching. Love the content pix, thanks for doing a great job
Buried treasure is not always under sand, it could sometimes be even buried deep under the stone ( at least in bedrock edition )
Looking at the desert village, I remembered the desert civilization on empires
Like the new logo! It looks like SG^2 Maybe keep this but with purple ?
I did some trial and error way back in 1.5.2 and I found 3 maps of that scale to be the farthest you can see your player marker from. So at most, 6144 blocks from the map.
i hope they revamp loot tables in the wild update because minecrafts balance has changed a lot since back when a lot of structures where added
You should build a Swiss Family Robinson style tree house in that Jungle location.
I just had an amazing moment when watching this, last time I was watching a KZheadr named Tewtiy play Bloons TD 6 and while I was watching this a new video from him came out 6 hours ago which was The Minecraft Chest Mod!!! LOL what a coincidence...
"If you don't want to know the answer, look away now" *literally says which levers he's pulling* lmao
As you approach a Desert Temple, due to Minecraft's mob generation rules, it is possible that a mob might spawn at the bottom of the shaft with the pressure plate. As soon as you get close enough (or enter) the temple, the mob can detonate the TNT and... KABLOOM!
To this day I still don’t know how to solve the jungle temple puzzle, and I definitely would like to lol
Panda sneeze slime ... wow something new
Only weak baby pandas have a small chance to produce individual slime balls when they sneeze. The process of farming slime that way is painfully slow, and "consumes" many, many pandas, as they no longer produce slime as adults, which they become after 20 minutes. If you search for the "Peaceful Challenge" series originally by ilmango, Kdender and HelgaRakel, you will find a concept for a panda-based slime farm with quite a high throughput of pandas, yet still very low slime output.
@@TheRealWormbo And aside from being a doozy of a build, it requires a high tolerance for bad things happening to cute mobs 😬 Not quite as terrible as the cat-based string farm though...
@@QuasarEE Well, you need to get creative when you don't have a renewable source of hostile mobs available to exploit. The cat farm was a bad string farm anyway, the cat gift farm was way faster, and then finally the strider farm blew past all needs for string.

13:23 could you please take the map without picking? With a hopper in a shulker chest? I think then you get a map without an ID
I've found two complete floating shipwrecks so far in my world. It's definitely a bug on bedrock edition at the moment, but I think they should leave it alone. There's something cool about finding one, especially since one of mine appeared to be beached as well.
I think the builders of the end city ships did it in the wrong dimension lol
I've seen Bedrock Edition worlds where the shipwreck generates next to a drop-off in ocean terrain, and instead of being halfway over the edge, half of it generates hundreds of blocks in the air. There's some wacky stuff going on!

@pixlriffs is there anyway that you can set a marker on a map to mark say a location like your base or points of interest? So when you do die instead of taking a bed with you and then spawning where you last slept you have the markers on the map to show all your bases. Because when I tend to wonder off in the world I lose where my base is after getting a nice loot 😂 👍

They should really add more magic to Minecraft and make it where players can access said magic plus it would give them a reason to finally update the Witch and the temples because they aren't really that great and could maybe add 1 or 2 more new temples to the game. I and I'm sure many others would really appreciate being able to have access to magic like the Evokers and also just more magic in general.
I was watching a minecraft stream on twitch and someone in the chat said that if you have 2 treasure maps close to each other (that would lead to the same buried treasure) you can break the chest of one and it resets the buried treasure it leads to. I might’ve misunderstood what they were saying but I’m kind of skeptical & wondering if that’s true.
It’s not true. In this video I have two buried treasure maps that lead me to a chest that doesn’t even exist; in my last video I broke a treasure chest and still found two more fresh maps nearby that led me to the same location. It’s wishful thinking, that’s all.
Desert temples are one of the best places to look for enchanted golden apples (each chest has a 2.6% chance of generating one, so 11% of temples will have one)
Pix can you teach me about linking nether portal
Just saying, but when you said that you don't have an automatic bone meal farm, you know you can make one from your sugar cane farm right? I did that with mine. My sugar cane farm produces too much at times so I set a hopper with a lever next to it to convert the overloading sugar cane to bone meal in a composter.
Lots of ways I can make an automatic bone meal farm - I just haven't done it yet. I'm honestly holding out for a double skeleton spawner because I like making spawner farms, but tbh we could do a moss powered bonemeal farm later in the season.
Treasure maps generate with the map ID in the chest. How the game determines how it chooses the ID I'm not sure of though
Makes me wonder if in Bedrock, or with Java mods for moveable tile entities, if you could push the chest somewhere else with a flying machine and get a different map that way.
Pixlriffs I have a question my iron farm isnt working unless I wait like 3 min at night before sleeping is that beacuse villagers have 2 sleep before making a hole or what
