THE GIVE AWAY HAS ENDED WITH A WINNER
But please watch the video anyway. Lots of fun stuff here.
Today I will make 2 segmented turnings while cutting the shape on one board. The method will allow you to get 2 separate bowls at the same time.
Both are made from Padauk and Maple.

Gary: I've seen you create bowls in this fashion many times, and I never cease to be amazed. This method of turning rings from one piece is brilliant...and frugal. I've always disliked the idea of a beautiful piece of wood being turned into 90% shavings. In my opinion, this method, plus coring, creates less waste and more beautiful work. Can't go wrong there! Two for one! Love it!
Thank you James, plus some of these woods are hard to find 3" thick. Thanks for watching, Gary
“Two for one,” an interesting method for arriving at two beautiful bowls from the minimum amount of material. This would be an especially good schema to use if you were dealing with very expensive woods. Minimal waste. Maximum beauty. Thank you papa
Thank you Paul, Padauk is not real costly but twice that of the Maple. I either use the Padauk for segments or something like this. Little waste that way. Thanks for watching, Gary
The Method used is one I learned in woodworking classes to make the drunken cutting board. I am happy I watched this video as I can now make the bowls. Thank you for showing me the TWO FOR ONE method to turn two bowls. They are lovely!
Thank you Diana. I remember our high school shop teacher showing use this for cutting boards. And that was a long time ago to remember LOL. Thanks for watching, Gary
TWO FOR ONE, showing off the magic twice!
Thanks so much Jim! Take care, Gary
Very clever using the “two for one” method. One of these days when I have my other projects done,🤣, I’m going to do one of these!
Thank you Bob and you will enjoy it. Take care, Gary
These are so beautiful Gary. I love that they are non-identical, but the inverse of the coloration (the different shapes of the bowl notwithstanding). "Something fishy"... two birds on a perch and one says to the other, "can you smell fish?"
Thanks Ray, they are fun to make. We have a lake near by that I used to go perch fishing. Caught as many as you wanted to clean. Tasty little guys! Thanks for watching, Gary
Another great bowl in the books. "Two for one" is a great phrase to use for this drawing.
Thank you Don and thanks for watching. Gary
Very cool getting "non-identical twins" for bowls. Two for one indeed! Can't wait to win 🤞🙏
Thank you and best of luck. Gary
Hi Gary, The “Two forOne” bowls look great. When you scrape what size and profile do you recommend? Also what brand or type of steel do you find works best? Keep the videos coming, I learn something with each one👍
Thank you Skip. I have 2 negative rake scrapers that I bought. Both I bought from Penn State Industries. Some consider them low quality but to be honest they cut every bit as good as ones that cost 3 times more. One is 1 inch wide and the other 1 1/2 inch wide. They do not come as negative rake so I ground them that way. I put 40 degrees on both sides. I have some I have made from some other tools that have very high quality steel and the ones I bought last about the same before time to sharpen. Hope this helps, Gary
@@ThePapa1947 thanks Gary - your feedback is appreciated
1st!!! Gorgeous Gary and some one is going t be a very lucky person. TWO FOR ONE Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Huw! Happy you were able to get up early enough LOL Cheers, Gary
I love the TWO FOR ONE bowl. It's beautiful!!!!💖💖💖💖
Thank you Nancy and thanks for watching. Gary
When I click on The Papa 1947 I get a lesson in wood turning, then totally relaxed, a good nights sleep, that’s a Two For One.
Thank you Margaret for your very kind words. Very happy you enjoy my videos. Take care, Gary
One. Fish Red Fish White Fish, those are lovey! I love watching you do segmented work.
Thank you Jane, I am working on another one right now. Not sure when it will be done. Moving things into different places in my shop after 45 years in the same place. Thanks for watching, Gary
Gary awesome and beautiful ❤️ TWO FOR ONE. Thanks for sharing Buddy.
Thank you Tony and thanks for watching my friend, Gary
Clever way to get TWO FOR ONE. Beautifully done! Always learn something from your videos. Thanks.
Thank you Thomas and thanks for watching, Gary
Gary I love the Fish bowls. The two for one Idea was a great way to pick a winner for your giveaway. As always a pleasure to watch you work. I look forward to your next turning.
Thank you very much Dean. Happy you enjoy watching my videos. Take care, Gary
Greetings from another 1947 Papa. I always enjoy your videos and look forward to each presentation. Who can beat it when you get Two For One!
Thank you Stanley! Nice to meet another 1947 Papa. Happy you enjoy my videos. Take care, Gary
Papa, Your creativity and innovation is amazing. TWO FOR ONE. Fantastic.
Thank you Michael!
Gary, I have been enjoying your videos for several years now and you have encouraged me to try different techniques in my shop. This "two for one" video was an eye opener for me. I have never seen your ring creation method before (and I have watched hundreds of hours of woodturning videos - just ask my wife!). Your little jig is a marvel of ingenuity. Well done!
Thank you very much Geoff for your comments. They mean a lot. I assume you have seen the video on building the ring cutter jig? Thanks for watching, Gary
@@ThePapa1947 no, I haven't seen it but will look for it now. I was hoping that you had made one.
Just watched you make the jig. don't know how I missed it the first time - single malt fog? what angle works the best in your experience?
Very little difference. The bowls I did in this video are 45 degrees. That will give you most material for the walls so I would start with that. Gary
@@ThePapa1947 so, one last question. what is that chisel that you use to cut the rings? I don't think I have seen anything like it in all my shopping trips. I do have a thin parting tool that I thought I could use but after watching more videos, I now see that it won't do the trick. thanks again, Gary. I really appreciate your input and guidance.
I have followed you for several years. Enjoy your work. Two for one. Thanks.
Thank you very much Van, I appreciate you watching and commenting. Take care, Gary
OK Gary, here we go: Two for one. Lets hope you are shipping internationally. 😎
As long as there are no restrictions or sanctions.
I like how you cut both boards and once and got two for one. Good job Gary.
Thank you Bryon, happy you liked it. Take care, Gary

Thank you Thomas, I do like to show things that look complex but are actually pretty easy to do. Best of luck should you try one. Take care, Gary
Since I have learned from you how to make a bowl from a board…I have yet to try one OR….TWO FOR ONE! I enjoy your work and videos! Thanks Papa👍
Thank you and best of luck when you do make one. Take care, Gary
These are beautiful. What I love most is your method. It seems that most YT woodturners start with beautiful wood, but most of it ends up as sawdust. The waste makes me sad. By making layers, you seem to keep most of the wood, and I love that.
Thank you very much. For sure this type of wood I like to do it this way. If it is something that has been cut down because the tree had to go and it will end up as firewood I do not mind turning it and ended up with shavings which we use around our place and nothing gets thrown away. Thanks for watching, Gary
Best "two for one" bowls I have seen.. blessings
Thank you Greg, I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching. Gary

Thank you Andy, I just started with playing with some splines on my computer and this showed up. I was hoping it look ok and once the bowl got shaped it did look like a little bowl with fish. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Gary

TWO FOR ONE bowls are great and to think you used something you learned in school. Children of today would not believe that.
Thank you Debbie, I paid good attention in math and shop class. I knew I wanted to be a wood pattern maker and both the classes were very important in that job. But they are important in all parts of life as well. Thanks for watching, Gary

What a nice bowl! TWO FOR ONE
Thank you very much Jim and thanks for watching. Gary
Two for one.. Really enjoy watching your wood turning. In fact because of you I ordered a wood lathe. I'm in the process of setting up a small wood shop and after watching your channel I added a wood lathe, which stretched my budget but I believe it'll be worth it. Oh by the way, an earlier episode you asked what was different, it was that you showed your face while rowing in the boat. God bless.
Thank you Jeffery and you will love having a wood lathe. I have about all the wood working machines I need. I am still waiting for drum sander to show up at my favorite store. I hate waiting for something ordered. I get by without it but it would be handy. Yes I did show my face while rowing my drift boat. This one I showed the dunes where we ride our quads. Although it has been a few years since we did that. Perhaps next week you will see something else. Thanks for watching and God bless as well. Gary
Great two for one bowls , I Csn't wait to try it.
Thank you Bob. I am sure you will enjoy the process. Best of luck! Gary
