GM is making a fresh start and moving its headquarters to this new location. This is going to affect a lot of people's lives.
General Motors will enter into a 15-year lease for top office floors in the Hudson's complex, along with street-level space to showcase its vehicles and for public activities, reports Autoblog. Hudson’s Detroit is a 1.5-million square-foot development that will otherwise feature ground-floor retail, a 5-star hotel, a rooftop bar, a public plaza, parking and large event spaces. It amounts to two buildings: a 12-story office building and a 45-floor hotel and residential condo tower - all with sweeping views of the Motor City.
“We are proud to remain in the city of Detroit in a modern office building that fits the evolving needs of our workforce, right in the heart of downtown,” said GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra. “Our new headquarters will provide collaboration areas for our teams, executive offices and display space for our vehicles. Dan Gilbert and Bedrock have done so much to make downtown Detroit a great place to live, work and visit. We are thrilled to be a significant part of the historic Hudson’s project and also look forward to working with them to explore new ideas and opportunities for the Renaissance Center site and the riverfront.”
In a historic move, General Motors is revving up for a new home! The automaker is setting its sights on a fresh headquarters in Detroit's vibrant downtown core.
Hitting the brakes on the RenCen: While GM will retain ownership of its current Renaissance Center location, it will be saying goodbye to its office space there.
Shifting gears towards a new era: Partnering with real estate firm Bedrock, the city of Detroit, and Wayne County, GM will play a key role in redeveloping the RenCen.
Back to Woodward Avenue: This move marks a return to GM's roots, placing their new headquarters on Woodward Avenue, the very street where they established their first headquarters back in 1911.
Buckling up for the Hudson's Detroit experience: GM will be the anchor tenant at the impressive Hudson's Detroit complex. Built on the former J.L. Hudson Department Store site, this mixed-use development boasts 1.5 million square feet of space.
Gearing up for the future: Their new digs will include prime office space on top floors with stunning views, along with street-level areas to showcase their latest vehicles and engage with the public.
A vibrant hub for Detroit: Beyond GM's space, Hudson's Detroit offers a dynamic mix of amenities for the community. Expect ground-floor retail stores, a luxurious 5-star hotel, a rooftop bar with panoramic views, a lively public plaza, parking options, and expansive event spaces.
A new chapter unfolds: This exciting development features two striking buildings - a sleek 12-story office building and a towering 45-story structure housing a hotel and residential condos, all overlooking the Motor City skyline.
Get ready, Detroit! General Motors is poised to make a statement with its new headquarters, a symbol of innovation and a commitment to the city's future.
