That's wild compared to Rivian!
Car looks amazing. Waiting for the pre orders to open
As an industrial designer, I'm pretty impressed with the design team at Lucid. They've stripped away the visual bulk since the concept teaser images were revealed. Most impressive is the approach to usability & aerodynamics. I really hope Lucid can survive. This vehicle will make or break the company. Great interviews & video, btw Tom.
I feel like Jenny Ha could be a better UX designer and David Flynt should be exterior designer 😂 With so many screen space you should really make it easy for the user where is what. She is good for the simplicity. On the apps, the breathing exercise is a good feature. To be fair, it is difficult to design for so much screen space. The designer even prefers to put on ambient because then at least it consistent. I think speed projection in front + big screen middle will become the standard for the average EV.
The SUV can only be born of a mind preoccupied with utility rather than style for style's sake. Aesthetic is just attractive packaging of a useful product worth the customer's money. It is silly for a car maker to tell the customer that the car is nice looking, but only small kids can fit on the third row. Lucid nailed it! Thank you for the review!
That's true with every SUV except full-size vehicles. And even they struggle to fit 3 adults comfortably. At the moment, the most spacious 3-row seat is the Grand Wagoneer with GM product coming in a close second.
The Air looks incredible, in person I imagine the same for the Gravity.
I like gravity. Is a beautiful piece of art..
Tom, fantastic video you created for us. Was terrific having three top Lucid staff present their areas of expertise. As to the Gravity, count me to excitedly waiting for you to surface more information about it. Well done Tom/SOC!!!
I like the look of this MUCH more than the Air. It'll be VERY interesting to see what it will do in Kyle & co hands.
Gravity looks awesome. Hope it has NACS. Personally can't afford it but I hope they have a huge hit. Maybe they can reduce the battery by 30KW to it a 300mile range and give it a better price point?
J3400. NACS is just a name Tesla assigned well after a decade of it being a Tesla charger. J3400 is the official charger name. Unless your at a version 4 Tesla supercharger version 3 and under do not charge Lucinda fast. Better off at a 350kw EA charger.
EV's need to have at least 400 miles of range because of battery degradation.
@@Resist4It all depends on one’s individual needs. I do just fine 95% of the year with my leaf, and we have a Highlander for road trips.
@@Resist4I would assert at least 300 miles of range, because at a certain point having chargers every 50 miles or so means you can easily still go on a trip
@@ericnewton5720 Again, battery degradation will reduce that 300 miles as the car ages and if you don't practice good charging habits. Add in hilly terrain, extreme temperatures, windy days and faster driving and your range will drop even lower faster. A 400 mile range gives you a buffer for all that. And yes, you can charge more often on a trip, if you have the extra time. But that also means you will be paying varying charging fees, which are way more expensive than home charging. 400 miles of range is the perfect minimum and would really get ICE owners attention to go with an EV.
Lucid makes beautiful cars
Wow! This is an attractive car. 😮
I’ve been seeing a lot of Lucids in NJ lately
Gravity looks amazing
I think this car will do extremely well because many of the design change from AIR they talked about seems to really take take the user feedbacks into consideration. I can't wait for the mid size option of Gravity that is shorter with less of an overhang.
Thank you, I want one so badly!
Amazing Video. Keep it going
Great video, thanks!
Great video. Great EV. Great design and practicality. Should sell like hot cakes.
Wow that looks amazing. I hope they make a mid size version similar to a Macan, that would sell like crazy.
Since we have been using old suv We are going to get one. looks nice.
Great work, Tom! Looks like a great vehicle, and I think it looks better than the Air. I hope it's a hit.
It seems like a great vehicle. That upper video screen looks a bit high (partially blocking the windshield), especially for shorter people.
A lot of manufactures are doing that. I really hate it. Not only does it interfere with the senselessness of the dash, it makes it seem like the display was an after though tacked on after the vehicle was made. Not a designed in feature.
The gravity looks nice. It’s a minivan without a slider. That’s not a bad thing but I think it’s funny how manufacturers need to avoid marketing as a van so they don’t kill sales. I think it looks great. I hope it does well.
It is stupid. Sliders are great, especially when you have a 3rd row and when you are in tight spaces but you can't have them because then it is a minivan and that is only for soccer moms so you are not a real man if you drive something a domesticated woman would (which is funny as soccer moms drive suv's now for somehow the same reason).
So instead they chose to design top colors/ shape to look like a hearse... The screen raised blocking more of view also seems terrible. Fancy meditation setup though.
루시드 그래비티 짱입니다 하루빨리 한국에 들어오면 좋겠습니다 🙏
This is pretty much the only vehicle I'd trade my Rivian R1T for. Bravo Lucid!
Beautiful car!
Go Lucid !🎉🎉🎉
The center screen seems to block road view from my view in your vid. What was your view?
That seemed the case to me too but it had a gap under it which confused me. I think there's this thing where car design monkeys think you have to be able to see the whole screen so they mess around with the steering wheel, and the position of their UI, make it unworkable and then they cut large chunks off the square panel of the screen anyway. I do wonder if it's as bad as it looks, particularly if the driver is short.
Yeah looks like it is way up in view.
Tom, have they fixed the wunderbox issue with 400v Tesla Superchargers? Can it get to 500 AMP's on them?
I’m also looking forward to seeing if the 3 row version will be offered as a base trim or not. The actual website has a footnote that says 3 row is available in “select trims” which makes things vague since lucid seems to release the premium trims “first” and then eventually work downwards. I’m hoping it will supply dual directionally charging that the new Tesla universal wall connector supports too
I really hope Lucid starts to do well in the marketplace. They stand out from the rest with innovative engineering and design. If they get to smaller vehicles, they will be on my short list.
Beautiful car! Great review with the experts. But I’m worried about visibility with that A pillar. Otherwise, everything looks very well designed.
My god… it’s beautiful
Have you considered a video on what vehicles are capable of what charging speeds?
Nice shirt 👍🏻
This has potential to sway the market.
Great car. Will get it when it's out hoping for success from lucid
Very impressive product, the interior style, controls and ergonomics make current Tesla's look old and cheap. Exterior styling is as good as it get for this class of vehicle.
Not sure it makes Tesla's old or cheap, Tesla's have gone more minimalistic within all their models. At first that was kind of cool but honestly I'd rather have more buttons/controls. Lucid is a more luxury brand while Tesla was luxury only based on how expensive they were, but prices keep coming down so now they are just kind plain but useful for most people.
@@Resist4 Minimalistic = Cheap = More profit
I think it looks good too, LUCID just starts at the top down(price wise), so I think alot of people will over look them...For instance don't just make the top of the line item and promote that...Come out with a unique gravity at 30K...Maybe have it with all wheel drive and alot of exterior colors...
Can you hard wire the 32 amp ford charger?
Hey Tom did you see Leviton now makes an EV specific 14-50 outlet?
Yeah - I'm setting up an interview with them
Thank you for this video. IMHO the number 1 feature they need to work on is PRICE. Lucid's are too damn expensive. They really want to corner the luxury EV market because you can fit $10,000 worth of Rimowa luggage into the Gravity.
I’m not sure I’ll ever hit 4.6kW/m but if ever I do it will be in a Lucid. 26:08
I got 4.5 mi/kwh driving from Providence RI to Boston airport in my Lucid Air GT last summer, I think it’s doable but only at EPA speeds which is probably around 58mph.
Looks good but I can't wait to see more on their entry level EV that are supposedly coming? Any news on that
GREAT NEWS, TKS. Gravity need be coming to UK. YES COME TO UK we love the design and the range. IT IS THE OPTIMUM OF DESIGN AND FUTURE. TKS
Where is the charging port and what is its 400v charging speed? Did the resolve the issue with the 44kw max on the most abundant charger in North America by a factor of more than 4 times that of the rest combined? Do they split the pack in two, or use a proper 400v on-board charger? What is their solution? And is the port on either the passenger front or the driver's rear? Those 2 issues are what's hammering the sales of the current Lucids. If they haven't solved both of those, they might as well fold now. The sales of the Gravity will be as low as the current ones are.
This what MBZ should have done w the R class
Lucid is clearly targeting the high end with all the advanced “experience” features. When lucid realizes the bulk of public with more discretionary budget are around the 50-80k range. Anything higher than that figure and you’re in rarified territory and those sales numbers are much lower. The engineering and range are being hampered by the expense of a lot of things that don’t contribute much to the driving of it. It certainly looks great and the range sounds phenomenal but price over 110k just puts it in a totally different rarified realm of buyers. It’ll be interesting to see how Porsche Macan EV will stack up since it’s basically smaller suv with almost as much range.
That's how a startup has to launch an EV. You gain popularity first, then launch your more affordable line. I'm no fan of Tesla, but they got the marketing right.
That car looks huge. Looks like a standard crossover but when you guys were next to it is look more like a full size suv in height and width. Those wheels are huge too. I assume they will ship with something with more rubber. Really hope they can get things moving faster and get this car out at a less insane price. Worried about them (and slightly less so Rivian) making it.
To me, it's just a perfectly normal estate car with the advantages of being an EV which opens up more cabin space which will be how they were able to fold the back seats down completely flat in both rows. I've a feeling that wasn't done regularly or even at all before EVs but I may just have missed it. Much more practical than a pickup though, at least, if they ever make a profit making their cars.
End of year?? Yikes. Good looking car. I will consider if can charge on Tesla network and Tesla home charger
Get to see the MotoMan sausage being made. Lol.
❤beautiful
What charging connector are they going to have on it at launch?
CCS1
Oof.
I feel like Jenny Ha could be a better UX designer and David Flynt should be exterior designer 😂 With so many screen space you should really make it easy for the user where is what. lucid is the king
Tesla is the king. Lucid is a distant second.
I truly love that companies are making screens and then slicing large chunks off the corners and stuff, throwing them away, like they're making pastry pies. Except you can't just recycle those bits, and all it does for me is reduce the screen space I have access to as a paying customer. They're doing it with phones and tablets too. Rounded corners! How helpful for my rectangular content... in this case they've put a massive bezel on the screen and had it float high, so it seems from the back seat camera view, that it obstructs the windscreen and therefore visibility. Presumably, it doesn't for Tom but how is it for a shorter driver?
Beautiful design, inside and out. Porsche-like, but better (maybe).
Did I miss the price on that?
Motoman in the background of the Gravity exterior segment with Jenny? Thanks for the detailed look through!
I say alot of exterior colors is because the top end models always have like 3 colors...but to bring attention to what your selling have alot of colors to offer at a lower model ....I really like the design but I know I'm not buying a 70K or more vehicle so I'm automatically swiping because I know it's probably starting at 70K plus....think about that Lucid
What’s the price range on this thing going to be?
starting under $80k😉👍
please add real panoramic moonroof with the automatic cover. I want to buy one.
The main reason why I ignore all SUVs. The second reason is range anxiety, but there's also the removal of the spare tire (a terrible trend in auto manufacturing). That immediately indicates to me that the car is mainly for city driving. Anyway, I want a real sunroof that actually opens for ventilation. Not just a glass roof. To my knowledge, only Porsche retains a traditional sunroof on its EVs. I actually use my sunroof (especially during this time of year in SoCal).
@@krane15A lot of manufacturers are turning away from functional panoramic sunroofs because they always have issues down the road.
The price is around 100k?
$80k starting
This will out compete the Model X and Cybertruck easy.
The overview turned out to be interesting, but the video quality needs to be improved.
Every time I watch your interviews with Lucid I want to buy more stock but I've lost so much on it, that I'm afraid they might go under. They're practically a penny stock right now. And while they are making a new model, they still haven't increased their service center locations fast enough. But I do think it's a better vehicle than a Tesla, with more range but it's also more expensive.
I think a slightly smaller sized SUV with a 300 mile battery/range would produce greater sales than the big Gravity, as good as it looks.
Now I know why they came out with the sedan first. Because if they brought this out people would just think lucid are a minivan and cargo van company. Not as appealing 😂
Hoping for the best for Lucid, but more boutique rich-guy BEVs aren’t good for the industry
Lots of great engineering work, particularly the aerodynamics. It makes the car a blend of the best parts of a Tesla and a MB. Form following function. But rather than all that video nonsense, PLEASE make more of the everyday functions of driving the vehicle voice controlled. Like “Gravity, close the garage door”, “Gravity, turn on my heated seat, level 2” and “Gravity, Sport mode!” Those functions may be able to be user programmed, but the should be native functions. The car will still have that futuristic whiz bang technology, but will be much safer and more desirable to drive. After all, this is a car, not an opportunity for a New Age psychotherapy session
Gives off mini van vibes
Not a bad thing. Minivan suggests rational and practical substance rather than faddish crossover
@@jamesengland7461 Folks who want "rational and practical" aren't spending $80k.
@1970351C2V But those who are able to spend $80,000 and up. And are willing to buy a quality vehicle will spend that money. The lucid SUV will win SUV of the year.🏆 remember it was the hit at the LA AUTO SHOW 😉👍😁🙌💎💎💎💎🫡💯🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉
@@1970351C2V I want rational, practical with great range and technology... And I think 80k is a good price for the Gravity.
@@1970351C2V Correct. I'm going to buy the considerably more expensive Dream Edition of the Gravity to get my dose of rational and practical. (We have an Air Dream Edition Performance that has turned me into a Lucid fan. I've owned a lot of nice cars over the years but never one with such an amazing balance of power, ride, handling, room, comfort, and features.)
You kept interrupting Jenny and it’s pretty annoying. Learn how to let people finish their statements.
Good feedback, thanks
apologies for being so negative and abrasive. your videos are great overall.
@@andrewhargreaves1095 No worries. I appreciate feedback. I know I'm not perfect 🙂
i kinda get that Lucid is trying to be a Luxury EV brand only... so we will probably never going to get an affordable below 70k car from them... which is a shame
They want to make cheaper cars eventually, but can't sell enough cars to make any money to move into mass production of cheaper cars. Hopefully they don't go bankrupt before then.
They already said that they're planning a 50k car after the gravity, still a couple years away tho
They started working on the $50k car already. It’s coming in 2027.
They will. You just have to be patient. Tesla and rivian did the exact same thing. Tesla came out with model s and x then the cheaper 3 and y. Rivian came out with the r1s and r1t, they are now starting production on R2 and r3 for 2026.
If you took the name Lucid Gravity off and slapped on Chrysler Pacifica EV, it would still work...
Rode in a Lucid at the Chicago Auto Show last weekend. Disappointed. Seat massage wasn’t good and the backseat was uncomfortable. Really surprised.
Tom, time to update your cameras. Your great content deserves better quality video!
I came here just to say this. The bitrate and dynamic range are remarkably poor to the point where it actually impacts the content - for instance the UI is just blurry and blown out. Just pointing an iPhone and uploading unedited video should be far better than this. Love the content, love Tom, would love an upgrade to the phone used and/or a reconsideration to how the video is being transcoded/exported.
First, Lucid needs to get a logo. The front should be non-complex, simple and easily recognized. Second, does the rear window go all the way down? It goes to attention to design. Finally, Lucid does a far, far, better job at maintaining all the normal look and feel of a traditional automobile. No minimalist shenanigans here. And unlike Teslas, you don't need to take driver operating course or to "get use" to driving all over again. For the most part, the controls are intuitive. Although they still couldn't resist the temptation to reinvent the [steering] wheel. @4:03 P.S. who is that guy in the car? He's distracting.
Lucid should make a mini van variation off this platform. Luxury mini van moms😂
This IS that
Hopefully they fix the mistakes when launching Lucid Air such as missing easy exit & entry, softening entertainment when GPS gives turning instructions, weak push to open switch at charge door, and inability to use voice commands without an Alexa account. Otherwise, this large EV looks great.
Is this the Kia carnival?
Yikes, you interrupted the lady guest so many times! You didn’t interrupt the guys BTW. I trust it wasn’t on purpose?
Sorry, but without an injection of cash, I don’t think Lucid can afford to properly launch Gravity without bankruptcy looming. I hope I’m wrong, but their losses are piling up and Rawlinson is the only winner.
They have well over 4.25 billion cash on hand and are secure at least through 2024 until Gravity launches.
You should consider that even legacy giants have failed or be near failure so that's part of the danger in any startup business. I really think Lucid will survive if not under its original ownership, then through acquisition by another group or manufactures. After all, the future is EV, and its already come to far to let it just die.
I wish Tom had asked about charging speeds on Tesla chargers. Will Lucid Gravity be able to split the battery pack and charge at 400V?
Stop talking over the expert when she is speaking. You can add all of that after she has informed us.
I prefer sedan format over SUV, but in case of Lucid, Gravity looks better than Air.
Bless you. But you're the only one.
Does it really matter how good or bad the car is if the company is on the verge of bankruptcy? If the company goes under, you can’t get service or parts or warranty. Maybe someone can buy Lucid out. They are currently losing hundreds of thousands of dollars per vehicle and it’s not getting better. 😬 Good luck, lucid.
It is a minivan pretending to be a station wagon and marketed as an SUV. I love it, can't afford or justify it. It would be nice if it had 8 seat belts. Even the 3rd role would be more of a 2 passenger with 3 pple capacity.
$80k minivan.
Pretty cool right
120k
Not sure why you would chose this
EV.
Lucid's to slow to market.
Gonna try to keep an open mind about Lucid, but this is difficult after their *_obvious, criminal IPO shenanigans_* for which the CEO should have been prosecuted by the SEC.
But Musk's SEC troubles are just water off a duck's back, huh? He was put under a consent settlement and required to step down as chairman, you know, for market manipulation relating to the failed deal in which he tried to get the Saudis to finance his taking Tesla private. (The Saudis instead funded the building of the factory that got Lucid off the ground, which is one of the reasons Musk and his acolytes keep attacking Lucid any way they can.)
What research if any did you do? Do you understand regional advertising? Are you seriously comparing cruise control to active driver assistance? Wow… talk about a knee jerk reaction video. Listen, Ive made bad videos but at least I tried to make it good. Tesla FSD has numerous warnings starting on the website while ordering to on the vehicle screen when activating the availability of the feature. There is so much to counter the FUD but you….
why does he interrupt all the time? so annoying.😥
I sat in a Rivian R1T, a Model X, and lastly the Lucid Air. In that exact order at an outdoor mall. I also own a Model Y. Rivian R1T: Most polished fit and finish inside and out Model X: Most tech-oriented and user friendly Lucid Air: Best paint job (red metallic) and worst quality interior. Cheap button feel, felt like cheaper plastic everywhere, inexpensive feeling material on the dash. The seats were fine.
We own a 2021 Model S Plaid (replaced our 2015 Model S P90D) and a 2022 Lucid Air Dream Performance. The Air interior absolutely trounces the Model S interior in terms of material quality, fit and finish, and roominess. That "inexpensive feeling material on the dash" of the Air consists of real open-pore wood, Alcantara, and an alpaca wool blend. By contrast, the yoke of our Model S has lost a dime-sized piece of its synthetic covering, and two more pieces are beginning to peel away. ( We have a request in for a replacement but have been told one is "not currently available".). We also have misaligned trim pieces in the Tesla cabin but none in the Air. Also, with the driver seat of both the Model S and the Air set to my preferred driving position, there is 9.5" more of fore/aft rear legroom in the Air than in the Tesla. Once we got the Air, we quit using the Tesla for transporting more than two people. It was just the kinder thing to do. With over 20,000 miles on our Air, the body remains quiet and rock solid. By 10,000 miles the Tesla was developing squeaks and groans in its rear quarters. The Air also rides and handles better than the Tesla and has a quieter interior, although the Tesla has active noise cancellation. (That was enabled via a software update a couple of months after we took delivery, but we discerned no difference in cabin noise levels.) This Plaid will be our last Tesla. As soon as orders open up, we'll be placing one for a Lucid Gravity to replace our 2018 Honda Odyssey minivan. We've been waiting for a roomy 6-7-adult EV hauler to complete our transition to an all-EV household, and the Lucid is the one that will best fit the bill. (We've test driven a Model X twice, but I just can't get my head around a passenger hauler that doesn't even have storage pockets or a center armrest in the second row. If you get the 7-passenger version, you can buy a tacky strap-on armrest from EVannex or another after-market supplier, but with the 6-passenger version you can't even do that. Your inboard arm either rests in your lap or hangs into an abyss. Why Tesla finally added a rear center armrest to the Model S during its 2021 refresh but didn't do the same with the Model X is an enduring mystery.)
@@blakespringpasturemortimer9168notice why he only sat in them and doesn’t own them. He thinks the Tesla interior is luxury 😂
I like lucid but I like Tesla more because it made me realize I don’t need more than one screen. I don’t need to do more than drive and when parked do entertainment. Less is more.
Nowadays one screen just won't do. On one hand you have the one display Teslas. On the other you have the multi-displays of the Grand Wagoneer.
