      @redman2751@redman27516 ай бұрын
    • Because it is fun, and also great practice for escaping robbers, or rushing to an emergency. You just need the skills, prudence, and judgement, and riding within 60% of your ability, leaving the other 40% for a safety cushion. And by prudence, I mean you have to expect things about to happen. Like what will you do if that vehicle does this, that vehicle does that. What if a vehicle, or junk just pops out in front of you. This is how I have survived racing around for my delivery job.

      @observingrogue7652@observingrogue76526 ай бұрын
    • Expanding on what I said earlier. You must not ride far outside the limits if your bike & skills. For example, when safely lane filtering, I don't go faster then I can stop or turn-away in one second, because people, junk, or doors can just appear. So I filter at walking or jogging pace, relative to the traffic around me, with brakes covered. I even take up the slack in the brake levers, at tighter gaps, blind corners around big vehicles, or jaywalkers. But when it's wide open roads, or my space cushion of safety & reaction time has expanded, then I can go faster. Times sometimes happen, where I have so much visibility & space, I bounce off the top-speed of my big sproket bike. That is what regulates my speed. Not the government, not anyone's opinions. What I'm safely capable of avoiding.

  • Here I am, a guy who's been riding for nearly two decades, and I never really got the "big bike" bug. I've stepped down from 700class and above bikes twice now, and find the smaller, lighter bikes are more manageable. The idea of going "fast" on public roads is one I got over early on.

    @honkerman74@honkerman746 ай бұрын
    • It’s more fun going 70mph on one wheel than 90 on two. A 35mph corner offers more Gs than a 55(better traction). I learned early on, I’m not allowed to have a rocket. Anything after 100mph on the streets isn’t skill. It’s begging for something unaccounted for. Get me to 100 quick and I’ll be happy.

      @WontSeeReplies@WontSeeReplies6 ай бұрын
    • I've only had a bike up to 100 twice. I did it to say I had,, nothing more. I do love that feeling of G's in the corners. I get them on my Grom and on my CB500F. There is no substitute for good tires and lots of experience. @@WontSeeReplies

    • I've started on a ninja 250 and I really want a 600cc. Doing a bit of highway riding and I don't feel comfortable not being able to easily move a bit faster than the flow of traffic. Also nothing really happens when you twist the throttle on a 250 when you get used to riding lol

    • I agree with Motojitsu. Small bikes are just so fun & usable. Big, heavy engines, or EV power equivalent, are only good for wide open space. Getting something like a 300cc or less sportbike or dualsport, is perfect for the streets. The prime example of "its better to ride a slow bike fast, then a fast bike slow". And I've started believing that smaller, lighter, low torque, high-reving engines & EVs are the best for the people, because you have the low rpm efficiency for commuting, high rpm power for emergencies & fun, but you are light & small enough to easily avoid collisions, with random people & things just popping out in front of you. Gasoline or electric. Power is heavy.

So many people are saying these new super/hyper sports bikes are "almost impossible to crash" It gives new or even intermediate riders way to much confidence to do stupid shit.

  • I remember when I was younger, I sat next to a pro motorcycle rider on a flight. We talked a little bit about motorcycles and I mentioned I was thinking of getting one, but I had never ridden before. His first bit of advice was buy a low CC cycle and work your way up as you get more comfortable riding a motorcycle.

  • 5:20 Legally the car is at fault no doubt. But going by “I’d rather be alive than right” the biker is 1000% at fault. I remember two decades ago when I was learning to drive a car, my instructor kept telling me slow down at every crossing and intersection , most accidents happen there. If you don’t see where you go, don’t go there or slow down to the point of being able to stop on a dime. All those car skills I apply as a new motorcycle rider.

    @VIDEOZAL@VIDEOZAL6 ай бұрын
    • I totally agree. That was a classic pattern: 1 lane of stopped cars and another lane wide open. Either somebody from the stopped lane is going to change lanes in front of you or somebody is going to cross in front of you. Alarms should be going off in your head every time you see that pattern.
