Three and a half years since that fateful Champions League final Loris Karius has still not re-established himself as the goalkeeper that was once promised.
But where is he now? What happened to him since that game? Why didn’t any of the subsequent loan moves work?

    • I think it's also to do with your mental state and how much trust you feel. I just remember how Kepa completely crumbled under Lampard as Lampard made it pretty clear he did not trust him, plus his GF broke up with him and he just looked a shell of a man. Luckily for Kepa, it seems Tuchel is helping to restore that trust and tbf Karius could probably do with a manager doing the same to him. May be worth him going to somewhere like MLS and get away from the bad media attention and have a manger over there treat him with some trust that he just won't get over here in Europe after what happened in the champs league

    • @@joshbrown2217 Lampard can be blamed for a lot of things but Kepa's form? Nah, you're having a laugh. The truth is that Kepa was never good enough for a club like Chelsea and we were stupid to pay 72 million for that. Marina probably still has nightmares about that. Kepa's form had nothing to do with Lampard, he was awful under Sarri as well and it's not like he's done anything great under Tuchel either apart from saving a couple of penalties. In fact, Lampard was quite patient with Kepa in the beginning and even defended him the press. But Kepa put in stinker after stinker. A manager cannot be blamed for a keeper fumbling the ball out of his hands into the goal or just standing still as it rolls past him. Heck, a 50 year old Willy Caballero did a better job in the nets when Kepa was dropped so Lampard can hardly be blamed. We have Edouard Mendy now who's one of the best keepers on the world and a rock solid wall. Thankfully the shambles that is Kepa is long in the past. Doesn't change the fact that we threw 70 million pounds down the drain but oh well.

  • The story of Karius is literally heartbreaking in my opinion. Everyone should try to remember that up until his mistakes at Liverpool he had put everything in his life aside for his football career, like all pros do. At Liverpool he did the same and all the fashion & holidays things are just a way to cool down for himself and to not get overwhelmed. After all that a few moments basically broke his career. You can say what you want about the move to besiktas and Union or the declined offer from Basel, but that would still add up to only a few mistakes over multiple years. The career of a goalkeeper can be very brittle, which I see a lot since I am a goalie trainer myself. Therefore I really try to remind people of the impact they can have when you hammer on a mistake of a goalkeeper, it can be unjustly harsh. I always tell my goalies to stand back up, focus on the next ball; and I think people around them should help them to do so. So with Karius all the media, the fans, the managements and everything else made his life worse than it should have been. Long story, this was just me, someone who loves goalkeeping, writing his thoughts. Be kind to goalies please :)

I love football, but often find myself playing as goal keeper because I can’t stand my goal keeper letting in silly goals. People say I have quick reflexes, but I beg to differ because I have general anxiety disorder, where when I am out of my house, I do not put down my defenses (psychological and physical). Therefore, would it be a combination of various factors including reading player body language helps me at being a goal keeper? Hard to say really? Bit of a philosophical question.

Like the video said, he was already making a lot of mistakes before the final and Klopp gave him many chances. This is quite similar to what Ferguson did to his goalkeeper Jim Leighton back in 1990 when he had a horrific FA Cup final.
