In time I learned it’s great to find out how bad you need the tool, buy cheap until it breaks then buy the best you can afford if you still need it has been my motto for a while now. #truckedc #whiskeyhat

  • Fun fact, Duct tape was originally known as “Duck” tape when invented in 1943 by a mom nMed Vesta Stroud who wanted to save soldiers’ lives in WWII. Johnson &Johnson’s Permacel division produced it. It was a waterproof tape that kept moisture out of ammo cans. Te original tape was produced in army green. Soldier soon learned the tape was great for not only as a moisture repellant, but also for repairing many things like jeeps, guns, and aircraft. How “duck” was used is all theory, but probably based on the moisture repellant properties. How it shifted from “duck” to “duct” is based on sales of the silver colored version.

    @fairbanksjp@fairbanksjp6 ай бұрын
    • It was made with duck cloth and adhesive. That’s why it’s “duck tape.” Call it 100MPH tape in the military. 3M came up with the “duct tape” name for marketing because “duck tape” got trademarked.

  • As a professional mechanic I will say we all use our fair share of Harbor Freight tools. Their new Icon ratchets rival Snap On in quality, and have been shown to withstand more torque than their Snap On equivalents for a fraction of the price and still have the lifetime warranty. I lean to Snap On most of the time these days but I still have many tools in my arsenal from HF I just haven’t had to replace and I use every single day. You’re lucky you’re not a tool nut also because THAT can get insane and expensive. I have it under control but it’s super easy to go crazy.

  • A really nice tip for flashlights or headlamps that take the 3 aaa round battery. You can throw that plastic piece out and use rechargable li-ion 18650. It's so convenient to have 1 battery taking the place of 3. And it also adds a slight boost in lumens.

I'm a mother of 5 & been prepping since '05, I truly enjoy it, it's a work-in-progress & I love finding new things to add all the time. I raised my kids with the knowledge of how important it is to prep (as I have 5 girls) & to always be prepared with anything, anywhere! I've helped people build B.O.B. or get home bags & I share how important it is to have one just because we also have the hurricane season here in FL. I thought I heard you mention that you're a Floridian too...do you go to conventions? do speeches? or belong to a prepper group? I asked because I've been wanting to create or join a group with similar interests. I hope to hear from you. Thanks again for your fun video!

  • 19:11 Duct tape is used for residential, low pressure duct joints. The foil tape is for hight pressure/high temperature applications. At least that was what we did 30 years ago in my previous life as a tin bender. But even then, we used it more for literally everything else. Only about 15-20% was used on actual duct work.

I even doubled it up once and pulled out another vehicle from the snow with that camo rope. The Gorilla Duct tape is in every car we own, super useful. I've got a couple of the Apache cases, they are BOMB. The I'm surprised he didn't mention they make great humidors! I take all foam out, throw a Bodeva or two in a smaller one and it'll will keep the correct humid-temp rock solid for months. Not a EDC item, more of overlanding gear, but their RoadShock LED light bars are pretty boss as well. I put a 22in on my Silverado and it lights the world up when I need it.

  • Very interesting video. The rope deteriorates over time if left out in the elements. I know because I purchased it with the tarp to stop water from coming in through a cracked skylight. It will not last the summer.

  • I have the badland winch and it has never disappointed. Also, the gun cases go on sale quarterly (i believe) the rifle cases go down to $100ish.

  • Harbor Freight is one of those places where you learn what's worth buying and what's not. Over the years their quality has gone up quite a bit, and now I think they're at that perfect cost to quality ratio before a brand's inevitable downfall. You can get 90% of what you need when it comes to tools and survival at any decently sized Harbor Freight nowadays, and for a very good price. That's rare nowadays and is enough to justify shopping there for me. Funnily enough I'm going on a weekend trip at the end of the month where most of these things are gonna come in handy. I can't drop $500 to grab gear for the trip. But $150-200 for everything, especially things I'll use for multiple years? Sure, that's doable.

  • FYI. Gaffers tape is better. Stuff will push water out of the way and stick to wet surfaces even. Amazing stuff

    • I don't know I make good use of harbor freight once you get to learn what they have and I'm a painter by trade and they do real well for the painters and safety glasses and face shields. I would say they have more that is good then that is not

  • I am a truck driver one thing that has proved to be extremely helpful. The Bauer small blower . 20v battery works really good for blowing out trailer and truck. The little vac works well also . I use a lot of tools from there for truck and trailer repairs. And if you lose them fine go buy another . Using them for 3 yrs now and still working well.
