  • It's always spooky when a video talks to you directly, by name... :D But it was a fantastic video! Great job on giving such a thorough breakdown of the course, its goals, its considerations - all in 14 minutes!

  • In fact, these are simple steps in any art school. When I started go to drawing courses, the teacher strongly recommended to "fill your hand" every day - to draw lines and circles. She asked at home hang a large drawing paper on the wall and draw lines with a pencil as often as possible. Because drawing lines by hand, they seem "alive". No ruler, no eraser. Only hardcore and daily practice 😁 At the end of the course, when it was necessary to make a selection of our drawings (in order to enter the university), we all saw our progress. We started with crooked, uneven and shaking lines - and ended up with beautiful academic drawings of plaster heads (Apollo, Aphrodite, David, etc.) Over the years, I lost the skill, but found myself in sketching 😀No rules. You just draw how you like and what you like. I wish you good luck in achieving your goals. We are waiting for you at sketch meetings in uskvilnius again 😉

    @dashutkacroft@dashutkacroft Жыл бұрын
    • I think you need to first learn rules to be able to unlearn them later and let yourself go:) And yeah I will try to join the sketch meetings, thanks for the invite! :D

  • I would also mention how great the 50% rule is. I've seen so many tutorials and they always say things like "don't even think about drawing a face if you haven't learned planes of the head" for example, whereas drawabox actively encourages you to do draw whatever the hell you want outside the course

    @makvala7656@makvala7656 Жыл бұрын
    • Oh yeah, that is so true. I hate when some people say that you are not ready to draw this or that. You can actually improve way way faster if you try drawing challenging stuff that is above your skill level.

      @meandidraws9521@meandidraws9521 Жыл бұрын
    • Is the 50% rule supposed to be something you're really putting effort into, and trying to use the principles that you're currently learning in the Draw a Box curriculum? Or is it just doodling, etc? I'm totally confused

      @dpelpal@dpelpal11 ай бұрын
    • @@dpelpal i think the point of the 50/50 rule is for you to just have fun and to remind you why you're even doing the courses in the first place, it's cause you like drawing (hopefully). So yeah, sketch, doodle, do whatever makes you happy. I think if you stay consistent with drawabox, plus if you study other things like reference images or anatomy etc. Your drawing skill will get better, and soon enough, when you sit down to draw for the other 50% rule, you'll start implementing all the things you've learned without even realizing so dw too much about it, just enjoy the process

      @makvala7656@makvala765611 ай бұрын
  • It's an amazing site for beginners like me! I've noticed a huge improvement in, not only the way I draw, but also the way I perceive drawing in and of itself. Uncomfortable is a truly inspiring dude!

      @meandidraws9521@meandidraws9521 Жыл бұрын
    • Drawing with your shoulder isn't the only way. It depends on the circumstances and how much precision you need. For instance, you're not going to do detail work with shoulder strokes. As for the ghosting method. It's great to learn accuracy, but with practice you don't need to ghost. You need to be able to draw with your wrist, elbow, and shoulders. For tighter figure drawings, I use shoulder for the gesture and work my way down to the wrist for the final detail.

  • 🌸🐲🌸 This was really nice. Well done! I'm currently on a self imposed three year journey to try and improve my art skills as best I can. I was going to start drawabox after a year of doing Marc Brunet's free 1 YEAR PLAN TO LEARN TO DRAW 🚀 (study schedule + exercises) video. But I may start drawabox sooner perhaps. Idk. I'll watch their videos again tho, and see if I think I should change up gears. And do drawabox first, then follow Marc's plan. Or maybe both if I have the free time for it, but I doubt I would be able to. However, I do aim to do both eventually in time. 🌸🐉🌸Thank you for taking the time to make this video sharing your thoughts and experience, with all of us 🌸🐲🌸

    • Hey! Thanks for watching. Oh yeah I've seen that video of Marc Brunet, I think it's a great idea. Maybe doing both would be a bit too much timewise, but it's doable. I still recommend drawabox, because you can get feedback there. In any case good luck!

    • Oh yeah, this course takes time and it's best that you don't rush it and pace it out. This way you will actually learn way faster compared to trying to speedrun this (it's a paradox, but that's how our brains work). I'm planning to do another video about science of learning later maybe. Glad you liked the video.

BUT, I am planning to do a follow up video about drawabox, where I will try to discuss each lesson briefly.

    • If you want extra help I can give you my discord, for now I can say, when people say “make sure your lines converge to a vanishing point” it made me confused too. What they mean is after making your Y and plotting the dots to make the outside of the box, when you find the point they would meet in the middle, bring the dot a little closer to the center of the Y, for a more perspective/warp look vs isometric. That way it looks better AND the sides converge to a point.

      @huntermitchell6335@huntermitchell6335 Жыл бұрын
    • The inner lines I don’t fully get yet, I assume you try to find where the middle of the dots you place after the initial Y would meet.

  • I don't understand this "but it's final on ink!" point. Just like.. don't undo? Then it's still final. Unless you're concerned about people not having the commitment to not undo. Sure, digital tools are to "make things faster", but what's the actual difference if I draw on paper vs. tablet if I don't use fancy things like stabilization, undo, layers, or the like? That said my main issue with the "use fine liners" is that it just delays the step of getting used to the tablet. I'd rather get that out of the way earlier rather than later. And that's definitely a factor too. If I draw on tablet I still need to get used to it, liners on paper is more intuitive right off the bat and when I compare the two my liner lines are every so slightly better, and I overshoot less with those. But again, I need to learn that on tablet eventually anyway, so might as well get it out of the way. I get it could kill someone's motivation though, especially if they end up feeling like "I should buy a more expensive tablet" The one point that makes sense to me is that you can't submit it for feedback. I get they don't want to deal with digital for homework. Like, to properly rate the work you'd have to know the tools used, which would involve asking each student about it and knowing all the software and and and. And then the student might go "ah yeah, that's actually just my tablet being bad"

    • @@meandidraws9521 yeah there's a lot of art courses out there that are way better than draw a box like the like the Proko one or a lot of stuff on Gum Road you just have to pay for it but you get what you paid for most people drop out of draw a box around lesson 6 or something I'd rather just pay for something because you can tell if it's going to be good or not just by the reviews. Also trent lessons on gumroad are pretty good for beginners. kzhead.info

    • @@williammclean6594 Cool, if it works for you, do it:) I personally tried Trent's easy art lessons and I definitely prefer Drawabox. It goes waay deeper into fundamentals.

    • I've been drawing for many years as a hobbyist, lack of fundamental knowledge was always holding me back. Learning how to draw a line can teach you so much even when you got years into your craft.
