  • I met Oak in 2013 while studying abroad in Thailand and it remains one of the most down to earth incredible interactions of my life. I just wanted to grab a couple Spoon parts for my Civic back home and he gave me a full tour of his shop he had then. Even took me to see Tatsuru Ichishima san’s personal cars he had in Thailand that were still there after Bangkok Auto Salon had finished. Seeing the legendary Spoon NSX and ITR in person blew my mind and knowing they belong to the man behind Spoon was even wilder.

    • @vickturorteez Same here since the early 2000's. Only just recently, I moved away from it. Our winters & salt here are killers. I'll only do it now if I'm keeping the car long term or it's rare and/or cheap deal to purchase.

  • I was here last December, drove all the way from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia to Bangkok with some of my friends who were going to Honda Fest Thailand which is amazing btw. Daisuke san from spoon was here as well, installing Spoon goodies into some FL5. That DC2 and FD2 on the jack back there, i was having a conversation with Daisuke san about this 2 cars. Eventually we called the DC2 okaasan and the FD2 oneesan, which is hilarious BTW. Personally i was in dilemma to pick either DC2 or FD2, Daisuke san advice me to take FD2 instead because those small parts still available and easy to find. Hence K series are better than B series in many ways, man until now i still remember his advice and we have a great conversation about cars in OAK club. Oak are cool as f, he’s generous and brought us some foods and drinks.

Thanks Oak-san for the inspiration..i will sure work harder and earn more to reach that goal!.

  • You kinda inadvertently dismiss this guy as he talks, because he's so chill and nonchalant about everything, then Larry sees his 2000, and he again, just nonchalantly tells him "yeah Spoon came here and built it for me, not a big deal"....then Larry wants to see under the hood, and we're all just again, inadvertently thinking it'll just be an intake or something, and then boom....00001 production 😅 This guy is just chilling, it's actually hilarious.

  • I been saying this for a minute, Thailand is the new Japan when it comes to the old school import culture! And some of these restoration shops seen on Social media there are absolutely insane, full on rotisserie restorations. I also learned that in Thailand a lot of the body shops are painting with Glasurit. Glasurit is one of the best German paint lines and is used in very high end cars in the states. It's also super super expensive. Explains why their restored cars look incredible lol.

  • are people in Thailand not allowed to import cars anymore? or what's the deal with that? Was never really explained?

    @Hords@Hords3 ай бұрын
    • A lot of Asian countries have similar laws, in thailand you can't import cars after a certain age. and imported brand new cars get like a 200-300% tax (the bigger the engine is the higher the tax rate). which is why a lot of cars are conversions. regular ol lancers, civics and impreza's converted to EVO's, type R's and WRX's, Nissan A31 cefiro's converted to skylines, regular 3/5 series bmw's, E/C class mercs converted to M3's/M5's and AMG's, eco boost mustangs converted to Shelby GT500's and GT's etc. all using imported genuine parts and running gear. in the case of skylines it's pretty much a chopped up car re assembled on top of a modified A31 cefiro chassis.

      @kev8943@kev89433 ай бұрын
    • in early 2010's (don't remember the exact year), Thai government pass a law that they cannot import second hand cars anymore, no matter the circumstance, that includes student grants for those that studied abroad aswell, you can only import new cars or second hand cars that does not exceed certain milieage (can't remember the number but it's very low), so old cars are pretty much out of the question. combined with the fact that Thailand requires any importer to pay ~300% tax for new cars (except China's ev), All cars pretty much become ridiculously expensive. Whatever 90's car we have are ALL we got!

      @AuldeyST@AuldeyST3 ай бұрын
    • It's because now there are a lot of car brands factorys that made here from Thailand and Exporting to more than 100+ countries all over the world such as Ford, Honda, Toyata, Mazda, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Holden Colorado, Holden Trailblazer, Etc. and the country that imported the car from Thailand the most is Australia. And now Thailand has overly cars populations problem, just only in Bangkok alone there are already more than 10+ millions registered car plate and how Bangkok roads or whatever roads in this world could hold those 10+ millions cars, and that's why we have a lot of traffic jam problems even there are MRT underground trains, BTS skytrains, Monorail sky trains and various kinds of transportation but the population of the cars here never going down. And probably thats why my friend. And I heard that a lot of EV car brands already moved their factory base to Thailand too.
