Fighting continues to rage in southern Ukraine. Russian forces hold the port city of Kherson and they claim to control the whole administrative region, of which Kherson is the capital. But in fact they don’t: Ukrainian counterattacks in March brought a small part of that region back under Kyiv’s control. FRANCE 24 reports from the Ukrainian-held part of Kherson region.

What do Bolsheviks have to do with this? Many Bolsheviks were Ukrainian, and they are the ones who created Ukraine. When imperial Russian palace was stormed by Bolsheviks in St Petersburg, Ukrainian Bolsheviks stormed Kiev and it was actually Donbas region which is now called Russian Separatist region that refused to join Ukraine or USSR and wanted to stay Russia

@@wangyi8031 The first part is right though. Just some boomer wanted to use the word "Bolsheviks." The original Bolsheviks were largely the same Stalin had executed for thinking too much about political theory.

Ukraine actually has one of the most fertile soils of the world. Beeing much smaller than russia they are still the 4th largest exporter of wheat in the world.
Ukraine is called land of the black soil. Very fertile area.
It is the single largest extent of good farmland on the planet. It produces about a tenth of the world’s wheat and a good proportion of other grains, and also apples and veg. Just one more reason why Russia wants Ukraine.
That is why it is called the Bread Basket of Europe. It is also why armies for generations have tried to conquer it and at times have. Then only to be driven out again.

Some rural areas in Russia and Ukraine for that matter do not have sewage or septic systems and still use outhouses.

Could be that I worry too much, but I would like the reporting to be more circumspect with regard to revealing the identities of those Ukrainian civilians who are putting their lives on the line helping the Ukrainian army. Not only friendly eyes will be watching these reports after all.

I appreciate that this isn’t really the point of the piece, but as a tree surgeon by trade I can’t help but notice that that chainsaw the locals were using was the most utterly mix and match chainsaw I’ve ever seen in my life, I love it 😂🤣
