WillVisiting the Hoover Dam Memorial Bridge
This past summer we made a stop at the Hoover Dam on the way to Las Vegas. We stopped at the Lake Mead Overlook, the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge (also known as the bypass bridge) and we walked down to walk over the hoover dam.
The Hoover Dam Memorial Bridge is the 2nd highest bridge in the United States spanning 890’ over the Colorado River and the widest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere spanning from Arizona to Nevada.
This bridge was opened in 2010 and re-routed traffic from having to pass over top of the dam itself. Try
Mike O’Callaghan was the governor of Nevada from 1971-1979 and Pat Tillman was an Arizona cardinals football player who left his football career after 9/11 to enlist in the united states army and was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan.
Mike O’Callaghan was the governor of Nevada from 1971-1979 he executive editor at the Las Vegas Sun newspaper for many years. An interesting fact, Mike O'Callaghan was U.S. Senator Harry Reid's history teacher at Basic High School in Henderson and later promoted Reid's political career.

  • We stopped by the Hoover Dam on a bus tour from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. We weren't there long enough to take the tour - but we did get to walk around for about 20 minutes and take pictures. It is such an impressive structure. Would love to take the tour someday. Thanks for sharing your visit with us!

  • This was great to see we just went to Grand Coulee Dam in Washington and we were shocked at how huge it was and didnt realize it is actually larger then Hoover Dam not taller but larger. After doing the tour we had said we need to go to Hoover in the next year or two and Lake Mead. This was a good video and love your channel we are new subscribers and supporters. Hope we see you one day Just Ramblin Around!

    • ah, no elevators, that would be a bummer. Now that is an elevator I would not want to get stuck in!
