  • Waaait a second. Giving (at least really young children) transparent paint makes sense! Some children love to just slap the paint all over the painting and if it is a coloring page the outlines still shine through and the image is the same in the end but colorful. Never thought about that until now.

  • Yeah, looks like this kit isn’t available anymore, you must have purchased from one of Walmart’s third party sellers. They’ve made it harder and harder to tell the difference between what they sell, and what they’re third party sellers sell. Here’s hoping it works out! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

    • Haha, this was evidently only $8.75 when it came out (on Crayola’s website), and was 2014 Time to Play Media, Parents' Choice, National Parenting Publication, Toy Insider's Top Toys for 9+years/Tweens, The National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval and Toys R Us Holiday 2014 Hot Toy List Award Winner. HOW?? How did it win an award? Did they try it out before they gave it the award?? 🤣

  • i'm struggling to see what the difference is between mixing normal poster paint and this? it's obviously not cheaper, i think it's just because it comes with a machine but you could easily teach kids the colour wheel and experiment with colours yourself. for $30 you could get some good quality acrylics and some canvases too

Sadly, the paint maker is either discontinued or not available in America, but I did find the marker maker! • But Jackie… you don’t want to use white paint because it already contains pigment, thus you’d pastel pink. You need acrylic binder to show the colors of the paint strips. But there probably wasn’t enough pigment in the strips to make nicely pigmented paint. 😂 It was fun to watch, though.

  • Btw, Crayola paint is water based. Water colors are more transparent. The paint you like is acrylic paint. That is thicker than watercolor. Even the soft body acrylic is thicker than watercolor. The cornstarch method is supposed to be for acrylic paints to make the cheap ones (which are usually not that good of soft body) to a better soft body or maybe even somewhat of hard body acrylic paint. It's not for making watercolor not or less transparent. I feel like acrylic paint is easier to use 'cause it doesn't take a long time to dry, but it still gives enough time to paint with and it isn't as easy to have bleeding of the colors 'cause the paint brush had slightly too much water.

    • Just because it's water based doesn't mean it's watercolor paint. Many acrylics are water based. The difference between the two is that watercolors are revivable. Once they dry, you can add water and it becomes paint again. With acrylic paint, once it dries, it's done.

  • I think the kit came with a more transparent type of paint, almost like something used in paint, pouring like pouring medium. 25:16 Obviously it’s gone bad but that might be why the paint is so transparent. If you use white paint as the base, then you’re adding extra pigment and the colors are going to be lighter.

  • I know they used to use cloth to hold and ship dyes. They would super-saturate a cloth with undiluted color (whatever they used to make the color base from) and sell that. Then, the buyer would soak the cloth in oil or egg white or whatever they needed for the medium. Dunno if that's even relevant to color strips lol, it's just what popped into my head. 😊

  • For a lot of her reviews/tests, she gives the item a fair chance and only hates on it when it doesn't live up to expectations but not with this one. It seems some brands, especially Crayola, she purposely sets up to fail. Not only is the Crayola water-based, WASHABLE paint, that she's comparing to acrylic, non-washable paint, but the paint base for the Crayola was also so badly expired that even when reincorporated was still the wrong color and consistency from what it should've been. Not to mention the Crayola paint if bought pre-made is less than half the price of the stuff she's comparing it to. It didn't stand a chance.

I think part of the gimmick with them for kids was they'd even turn your mouth purple or something? • The cornstarch mixture honestly just reminds me of gel medium. It allows you to extend not only the amount of your paint (mostly acrylic paint) but also the dry time (again, mostly acrylic paints 😂). It wouldn’t really make the paint “denser” or anything. Great recipe with cornstarch is to make your own gesso AND modge podge (same recipe for both is cup of water, cup of corn starch and cup of white or clear glue. If you want it to be colored or sparkly or both just add a drop or two of whatever acrylic paint andor any amount of glitter -that’s safe for the world and you!- to the mixture and mix to your desired thickness. It’s also a handy recipe for texture paste, with or without the glue 😉 😂).

Some sunscreens use zinc because it's relatively transparent. Mixing white is more tranlucent. Titanium is quite opaque which will give you those great pastels.

Also if you buy a big bottle of cheap bubbles adding glycerin will fix them. Miralax works too because of the polyethylene glycol but that's pretty expensive we just had an expired bottle at the back of the cabinet so I tried it & it worked very well.

  • As your sister sika always said "Crapola". And the "Figure it out", is my fav. I even sing the song when im with friends. Haha. The toothpick falling "wheeeeeeee" hahaha. I absolutely love your videos and watching you. I admit the paint shaker is "a waste of money". They could of sold all the stuff except that and the price be some what cheaper and the packaging be smaller. Im guessing when they create this stuff. They dont think us adults are kids too. And we still like doing stuff like this. Its so much easier to manually shake it or stir it. They could of sent a bag full of toothpicks instead of the shaker machine.

  • I always kinda figured Crayola paints were supposed to be pretty transparent, so parents wouldn't have to buy completely different types of paint based on whether their kid is using a blank page or a coloring sheet

  • I see a lot of people in the comments saying that this is meant for primary school children and teachers and that it may actually be a blessing that the paint is transparent for easy cleaning ect. However I think what people get wrong is when quality is involved. If you’ve watched crayola testing videos or tried the kits yourself you know for a fact they love skimping out on quality. Often “cool gadgety type mechanisms” don’t work at all or as advertised, the actual art or craft supplies are dollar store quality or even less, and for the $20-$40 average these kits cost they are almost always missing out on tools, supplies or creative freedom (or all of the above!) Also- I know for a fact over the recent years Crayola has marketed themselves as not only being for kids but also the aspiring artists out there, and even producing “professional” products for advanced artists. At least in this video it looks like you could save probably $25 by going to the dollar store and getting poster paint and mixing it yourself. The quality seems the same. In my opinion even if you were buying these kits for your children you still wouldn’t want to waste your $30 on a crappy, flimsy piece of plastic. And for that price I believe you’d at least want your child to have some creative freedom and be able to use the item more than once.
